Nice double reaction. Su really does get the emotions across (the definitive performance of NRNR is probably from Legend S, but the Budokan 2021 was special too ... there was a kamisihibai before this (and a different one before Legend S - that was performed in Hiroshima) that really did give the whole song so much more meaning. Su first performed this at Legend 1999 in June 2013. She was not happy, she was so young and didn't feel she was understanding and therefore not expressing the emotion the song deserved. She felt she was concentrating most on hitting the right notes and singing the right lyrics, but she felt she didn't have the life experience to really understand the song. When they recorded the first album NRNR was not included. Only when she saw people crying in the audience at a later performance did she realise her voice could effect people that way and only then was she prepared to record it - it was on the second album released 2016. NRNR has still only been performed 7 times: Legend 1999 (June 2013), Budokan Black Night (March 2014), Tokyo Dome (2016), Legend S (both nights Dec 2017), Budokan 2021 (2 of the 10 nights). NRNR is inspired by and pays Home to X Japan's classic 'Endless Rain'. 'Mirror Mirror' 🪞🦊🪞questions the duality of reality, is the image in the mirror the real you? This was the first time that Su-metal has channelled Snow White's step mother and Moametal has quoted Shakespeare's witches from MacBeth ... it isn't the first time they have had Prog Metal elements in one of their songs.

Mirror Mirror was one of the first Babymetal songs I heard (other than Gimme Chocolate! a decade ago), and it made me fall in love with the band almost instantly as it reminded me of listening to At The Drive In with the discordant guitar sounds and time changes. It's next to Maya on The Other One and I think of them as kind of sister tracks in how they differ from the rest of their songs.

Excellent double feature, as usual, thanks! "No Rain No Rainbow" showcases perfectly Su-metal being a total performer. You can see her moved, personally involved while conveying the emotions flowing from the sad lyrics. The song is another of their many homages to X-Japan, for the song "Endless Rain". You will get comments about Legend-S version being better (and it's true) but this is perfectly fine and the other version tends to get seriously blocked. About "Mirror Mirror", it's definitely one of my favorite songs from The Other ONE album... okay probably my favorite. Su-metal said about "Mirror Mirror": "it talks about how other people can see you, but you can only see yourself in a mirror, and that may not be your true self - yet ultimately, you’re the only one that truly discerns what you really look like. So in the end, it’s like asking yourself who you really are." I absolutely enjoy the prog metal mixed with metalcore, the hardcore breakdown and that very, very BABYMETAL chorus. Also very fan of the pre-chorus (where they quote Shakespeare's MacBeth) and that cool modulation they do there. Until next time! 🤘🦊

No Rain Now Rainbow is Babymetal's tribute to X Japan and the song "Endless Rain". As one of Babymetal's great musical influences, X Japan references and influences litter their music and performances. I always love these solo songs because they don't really have much in the way of choreography so Su and can just put 100% into the vocals and show her full singing prowess. It has only been performed live seven times, and the 2021 performance is the last time that it was performed live. Given that they don't seen to perform the Su solo songs or the Black Babymetal songs anymore, it may well be the last time we see it performed. Mirror Mirror is a much more modern technical djenty kind of song. There is some cool stuff going on with the time signatures. It's also interesting in that it's mostly in English, with Japanese only in the chorus. I was at PIA Arena for this show. It was the world premiere live performance, taking place a few days after the release of the album and it really made an impression. The whole PIA Arena show was nothing short of incredible; it's my favourite of all the Babymetal shows I've been to. The songs they are mostly likely to play on the US tour, based on their recent tour setlists when I saw them in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, are: Babymetal Death Megitsune Distortion Pa Pa Ya Monochrome or Karate BxMxC Metali! Ratatata Gimme Chocolate Road of Resistance

Nice double bill yet again. NRNR may sound sad, but as always, with BabyMetal, even a sad song is positive. You can not be sad without having good times to remember to make you feel sad . Mirror Mirror I heard live at the RoadHouse in London heard the tinkleing start, and l had hoped they would perform it but was happy as hell when they did 😁 they performed Time Wave after that . 2 songs I had hoped they performed and could not believe it one after the other. How lucky was I 😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼

Nice reactions. Songs like No Rain No Rainbow is the reason Moa says that when Su sings it's like an Angel came down. A big statement from a band mate. A agree with it. Su can move your emotions with her voice. I've seen grown men cry from this song. Powerful is she in the way of song. This song has another place in Babymetal history as well. It is the song that proves these young ladies weren't just told this is what you're singing from now on and had no say in it. The agency they work for wanted to release this song on their first album. But Su felt she couldn't get the emotion of the song right and prevented that from happening. They did perform the song when she was ready. And it was only when she saw folks crying in the audience that she knew she got it right and agreed to record it for the second album. Since Su was still underage at the time. That is a lot of power to so say NO to the folks you work for and get your way. This is also where some of the idea that Su is a perfectionist comes from as well. Many others would have just recorded the song. Su waited until she felt it was perfect to do so. Girl has her standards. And they're very high. Next Up Mirror Mirror. What a fun tune. The breakdown delivers in this song in a big way. With a little Shakespear thrown in. Maybe all you see is an illusion? Or Not. Babymetal lyrics will make you think sometimes. Their songs are like Ogres. They have layers or is that onions? LOL The Foxhole is deep and full of surprises.

When reacting to this performance of "No Rain, No Rainbow", people often wonder if Su really is playing the piano. I try to remind people (and myself) that in an old interview back when Su was around 15 years old and was graduating from Sakura Gakuin, Su mentioned how everyone in her family plays an instrument except for her. Her dad was the bass player for a punk (or rock?) band when he was in high school. So music skills are in her genes. Su is so naturally musically talented and that piano part is not that complex, that it is very possible for her to learn and get VERY good at playing that part in a month or two.🤘🦊🤘

Thanks for commenting about Su's piano performance! Yes I was thinking the same thing. With how talented Su is, I believed she likely learned that section for the performance 😁🤟🦊

@@JasonsSongStop Su would have had more than enough time to learn that small piano piece by heart since this concert was in the works for quite a while since it was 1 of 10 concerts in 2021 to celebrate their 10 year anniversary.

No rain, no rainbow is my favorite song of the 21st Century. The solos written by Kami member Leda Cygnus are immaculate.(The second solo especially) Su's performance the first time they did the song was kind of off. Maybe the second time as well. But later it became arguably her opus, along with Akatsuki. Legend S in Hiroshima is perhaps her single greatest moment to date. This performance was stunning as well. MIrror, mirror gives us Shakespeare quotations from the same girl who made "Atatatata tata tatata Zukkyun" famous. 🤷

Welcome back to the Foxhole, it's been a while.🦊🤘🔥 Two different songs, one of SuMetal's solo but not hier best performance, highly suggest the live at Legend S Baptism XX 2017, there's an official live clip although it's heavily blocked so watch it in your own time. Mirror Mirror got a more proggy vibes and it hits hard with that nasty heavy breakdown, It's not a regular on the setlist when performing live but it got some fans who loves that song, hopefully they will play it again but i doubt it. They already finished the Asian Tour and in October they will be at Knotfest Brazil, Argentina and Chile for the first time in South America, as well Peru with a headlining show, they will come back to the US for another tour and also Mexico will be part of that tour but this time as special guests for Slipknot, we can't wait for it. Hope to see you around with more BM songs. See you next time and kitsune up!🦊🤘🔥

This 2021 NRNR concert has many messages. First, the concert took place amidst the effects of the global pandemic and many sad farewells: ..... ....... where his protégé Omura plays a guitar solo on the guitar of MIKIO, who passed away in 2018. The BABYMETAL logo projected on the piano no longer has the skull representing YUIMETAL, MOAMETAL's heart motif is now a MOMO&MOA smiley face, and the wings have gone from four to three. ...... The new logo was unveiled on April 1, 2023. It is supposed to be a gift of SU's wings and MOA's heart to the departing YUI. And this song was written at a time when Japan was still in mourning for the loss of so many people in the great earthquake and tsunami. It reminded me of those days in 2013, when we remembered the many lives lost, but also gave us a positive feeling to live with hope... 😭

Mirror Mirror is partially about "Who are you in the mirror". Think about it. Do you put on a false face, an illusion? This song is about one of my friends, he has such a false narrative about himself, he won't face his true ability or self.
