I forgot to say how impressed I was with the backpack & all the spare items! Your the first person Nelle to give a rundown of what everything they gave you does! I knew they had different strength magnets for the coil! But not different size coils & cords from the processor to the coil! I presume you will know the right sizes etc later at your appointment! Plus it's a result that your implant runs on the same batteries as your hearing aid! So as long as you keep the adaptor with hearing aid batteries in you will never be caught out! Plus the CI processors have got smaller over the years! Something I noticed more was how much the hearing aid matched your hair colour! I saw it more with your hair tied back! I love the way cochlear promote their brand! The backpack with the name on & all the extras! When your out using the backpack the general public will see the cochlear name & know what make of CI,I have to say if hearing aids can't help me now I am profoundly deaf I would definitely get the make you got! I can't swim but to hear under the water must be so exciting! CI's seem much better than hearing aids! So in a few hours the wait will be over & the hard work starts! Good luck once again Nelle can't wait for the next video! Your mum sees history being made in front of her very own eyes! Well done the NHS who are under so much pressure at the moment with covid! 💜💜🍀🍀

Hi, thank you for your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed seeing all the equipment that they gave me. I thought it might be a good video to make because I didn't know before I received mine. I do like that the processor is a good match for my hair colour. I'm not embarassed of it, I just might not want it to clash with my outfit or something. Thank you for your positive wishes. Nelle xx

Hi Nelle I believe the blue light shows your coil is attached to the magnet! And is all working! The implant looked very star trek in the dark picture! I could see if anyone would make the implant work it would be you! From what I have read you only being deaf for 6 mths has helped no end! Your brain still remembers sounds! Its good you want the other ear implanted! While it's good to have the hearing aid in your left ear it's not as good as an implant one as you pointed out when you put it in at the appointment! It makes you realise how little natural hearing you have left! If mine was coming back it would have done by now! So I am in the same boat as you before the implant! It hit home watching your activation that without close captions I would have missed the interaction with your mum & Roberta! I can see your so laid back! With your mum & Roberta trying to get your attention I would have screamed one at a time! Haha! Keep up the hard work! Your doing amazing! 💖

Hi, thank you for your comment. The blue light isn't there all the time so I don't really know what it means. I did read the instructions but I forgot so I don't think it's that important. I remembered what the important lights mean. I definitely think that my brain remembering sounds has helped with me getting used to the implant. To be honest, a lot of the time now I don't bother with my left hearing aid. I've started wearing it without a battery just to remind people that I'm deaf. I find that the sound it gives me sounds so bad compared to the implant, it kind of distracts me from the better sounds with the implant it makes it worse than just using the implant on its own. I have definitely had to learn to be patient since losing my hearing. My family are naturally very talkative people who always have very... 'animated conversations' I think is probably the best description. I am pretty much always left out as everyone is too involved in their 'animated conversation' to explain what's going on to me. I just have to put up with it for the moment. Thank you for your positive comment. Nelle xx

@@nellefindlay I hope today went as well as you hoped for! You made a good point about your family having 'animated conversations' It can't be easy for you or your parents! Their daughter had perfect hearing for 21yrs! Then within a week it was gone! It probably did not sink in until after you got your last set of hearing aids how profoundly deaf you were! As you said you have had to learn to be patient! But as each week passes you should hear more again & catch more of what is being said! With me I am probably feeling how you did the first few weeks! Could not talk on the phone! Have captions on the TV & social media etc! And probably like you thinking once you get hearing aids things would be better,but not much! Your implant could not have come at a better time! I would love to be able to hear the Christmas carols! All I hope is the NHS will be so impressed with you that they implant your other ear in the new year! You have very little natural hearing left just like me! I do miss those coloured earmoulds of yours they do look very cool! Just like my blue ones! All my best to you 💖💖

Once again Nelle good luck & we all wish your one of the lucky ones that the implant helps! The processor was smaller than I thought! It's good you got a colour that blends in with your hair! But first & foremost I don't think u would care what colour it was if you could hear again! I keep hoping my next hearing aids would be white to shock people! Vanity has finally gone out of the window! All I care about is hearing again! I totally know what you been going through these past 6 mths! But the 4th Nov is a new start on your hearing journey & it could not have happened to a nicer lady! You have been polite & helpful all through! 💜

Hi, thank you for your comment. I've had my processor activated and I'll be uploading the video of the activation soon. White hearing aids could look pretty cool and futuristic, especially if you get fun coloured earmoulds. In my case, vanity is never going to go out the window. I'll get whatever I need to have the best hearing, but I'll do it as stylishly as possible! Thank you for your positive wishes.

Hi Nelle I just want to apologise if I came across across as being pushy if that's the right word about knowing how it went! I have seen the you tube videos of activation & how hard it is to work out what's what plus I suffer badly from hearing fatigue! Trying to make my hearing aids work for me & trying to lipread! So your probably knackered with so much to take in! I appreciate you thinking of people like me who are now profoundly deaf putting captions on the video before posting! I know you tube can auto generate them but sometimes they can be well off I think! But at least you know what equipment you will need on a daily basis! I can only imagine what it's now like with an implant & a hearing aid! I tend to sit & worry if I say the wrong thing! You know what I am going through so your kind words & friendship is helping me no end! Now to hear muffled words & sounds has got to me more than I thought! Seeing how far you come in 6 mths has given me hope that I will hear something again!! Thank you for sharing your story & good luck over the coming days,weeks & months! 💜💜

Hi Nelle I have read so many good reports about the nucleus 7 processor! So many implanted people think it's the best so far! It's smaller,for some that makes a difference! And you can do so much via the app! Plus the number one plus point is the forward focus setting! It cuts out all the background noise behind you! If ever there was a good time to lose your hearing(there is never a good time) its now with this latest processor! So If in the future I get offered a CI this would be the make! Plus you get a nice backpack! 😊😊

Hi, thank you for your comment. I'm really enjoying this processor, but obviously I have never used any of the other brands so I don't know if they would be different. I really do like the forward focus feature It definitely does do something. I wish you the best of luck if you decide to get a CI. Nelle xx

Nelle are you going to get the Resound hearing aid some day that work best with your brand Choculer implant which is the same company that made your implant.

@nellefindlay 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, I won't be getting a Resound hearing aid today. I might be able to get one in future but not at the moment. I currently have a Phonak hearing aid, but to be honest I'm too deaf to really get much from it. I hope that Cochlear comes out with a CROS system for my implant in the next few years because that would probably be better for me at this point. Nelle xx

@nellefindlay

Hi, thank you for your comment. I had no idea how much stuff it came with either. That's kind of why I made the video. I'm glad that the captions are good. I'm never quite sure. I do them myself. I just try and remember what I said and match it up with lipreading. If I get stuck I use the live captions on my phone to try and work it out and that usually works. It takes me ages though, but since I'm not making any money from this, I don't want to pay for captions unless I really have to. Nelle xx

What type sound do hear after implant I mean it's like netural or something else? Do you hear proper after implant
@nellefindlay
@nellefindlay 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! First of all, congratulations on getting a cochlear implant. As far as my knowledge, there isn't one processor that is better than the other, it's just personal preference. The nucleus 7 is an on-ear processor so it sits behind your ear whereas the kanso 2 is off ear so the whole processor sits on your head. That's really the main difference. I have the nucleus 7 and I really like it, but it just depends on your lifestyle and what you want from your implant. Hearing with a cochlear implant is definitely different from normal hearing and it takes quite a long time to adjust to the sound. When they first switch it on, you might not be able to hear very much but it improves over time, although it's never quite as good as what people with full hearing can hear. I hope this answers your questions. Nelle xx

Hi again Nelle thank you for your detailed reply earlier! I love the way your now wearing your hearing aid without a battery so people can see your deaf! With not knowing what a CI sounds like compared to a hearing aid I cannot comment! But what I do know is from my experience now a hearing aid can't amplify something which is not there unless it's powerful one! Without your implant you would be missing out on so much! These past 2 mths I have seen what you went through in 5mths! People have said to me that I have worn hearing aids for 25 + yrs so I know what it's like to be deaf! But I could follow what was going on around me but now I am like you before the implant if that makes sense! My last hearing test I got 15% word recognition with hearing aids! I think the combination of lipreading & the implant has helped your brain remember sounds again! I think in the new year there must be a way of you getting the other ear implanted so you can hear in stereo if you so desire it! I hope it goes ok with Roberta on Thursday she is going to be well impressed with your progress! I bet program 4 is still not loud enough!haha! It's good in a way your a chatty family it's a good test of your implant with people talking! The highlight on Thursday was when you came out & your mum said " can you hear me Nelle" and your smile was a mile wide & you said "yeah" I hope we get more 10 Min video's of your progress at the appointments if only for the banter from you & your mum! ( Thank goodness for closed captions) I do try & lipread your video's to get practice! I have a mental image of what you sound like! Probably nothing like! Thank goodness you decided to film you tube video's on your hearing loss journey & post pics etc on Instagram! I hope you will follow me back on Instagram please Nelle 😊😊

I totally agree with England calling to give yourself time to let your brain process new ways of hearing! All the beeps etc! I had to laugh when someone says at first it sounds like Micky mouse or a dalek! But you have a major advantage Nelle you only been deaf for 6 mths so you remember what stuff sounds like! Most new CI users have been deaf for years! Love the backpack! I wish I could hear something! Would love to hear what you sing like with your CI & what your voice sounds like! And not all muffled sounds! I bet you will sit there all night with the processor on your ear to get used to it! The hardest part will be making sure the CI stays charged! It will be a long day for you but worth it! 💜💜

Probably about that. I think the cost varies depending on where you are in the world. In the UK it's between £30,000-£50,000 (I think $45,000 is about £36,000). Luckily I have been able to receive one implant through our national health service so I didn't have to pay.

My processor-device will be black, so I ordered: golden, silver, blue shimmering ones, one with colorful butterflies, one is like "mermaid style" and I really think about a Darth-Vader-character-style. I don't know how long stickers last on a CI, but we'll see. I wanted a little bit of sparkle. I've also seen a picture of someones CI with a customized cover in silver, which was a litten bit to much for me. But if nobody sees the device, they won't know I have hearing loss, so I won't hide it.

Hi Nelle I know what u mean about the backpack! So full of stuff some even after 3 yrs I not used! It's good publicity for cochlear! I hope your first week going well,hearing some of the sounds you heard before you lost all hearing! The first week or two you feel lost or in denial! But then it sinks in your deaf and only medical science breakthrough will change that! During my first couple of weeks after implantation I would spend a few hours on my own with the implant out & maybe just the hearing aid in! It helped me see that without the implant that's would be my world of almost silence! What I found helped was I got the audiologist to take the earmould I had for my hearing aid & attach it to my implant! It felt right having an earmold in both ears! Even if no sound went in! Plus it stopped me from getting an infection in my implanted ear as for a good 8 mths I had earmolds in both ears! I felt complete if that makes sense! Now I have bilateral implants it does not matter! Finally I would film your appointments even just 10mins like before for your subscribers to see your progress & for you to look back & see what needs adjusting plus it does help when you apply for PIP there is proof on film how deaf you are! I get the full £7k a year as I have other health issues! So all the best for Thursday you will nail it! ❤️❤️

Sorry for the lack of reply. KZbin put your comment in the 'held for review' section for some mysterious reason. I've found it at long last! I was really pleased when I first got my implant switched on. I think I had just set my expectations really low, because I didn't want to be disappointed. My more recent appointments have been really boring so I haven't filmed them, but it's good to know about the PIP thing. I might try putting an earmould on my implant to help keep it on better. Thank you for your positive wishes!

I had the surgery last monday and tomorrow is the activation day. Surgery went perfectly, no dizziness or pain after it. Anesthesia process was the funniest portion in this process but i will see soon how it works. Unfortunately, surgery might have affected hearing but it might be the blood in middle ear that affects it. I've been in bed for most days because the pressure but it will be better every morning. 3rd edit: Didn't you get your Kaci koala!?

Wow!!! Nelle what an amazing video! I have never had 22 mins go so quickly! I love the colour of the processor it does match your hair colour! When you put it on your ear it looked so cool! Am glad the site healed enough to try it plus it was good you can still wear your glasses with your processor! I loved everything you got with it! Especially the waterproof kit for swimming! You looked so happy & If anyone will get decent hearing you will! And I predict if it goes well next year you will somehow get the other ear implanted! And I noticed the processor was the same colour as your hearing aid! I am jealous I love the earmold colour you settled on at the time! Plus your hair looks so nice! Unless it was the lighting it looks darker! Am glad your mum is filming your activation! To see the look on your face will be worth it! That reminds me buy some tissues! I can't thank you enough as i now know what to expect if a CI is my only option next year if like you hearing aids don't help! I may know nothing about CI's but I know how lonely & isolating being profoundly deaf can be! So I have said this before but here is hoping the activation goes well & it's a start of you hearing again! Plus there won't be many people where you live with a futuristic hearing device! 🤗🤗🤗🌹🌹
