Have you thought about having Robin put some pvc pipe from the top of your stairs to drop right into the garbage bin for your bottles. It might not work for the larger ones but might contain the smaller ones a little easier, just a thought.Thanks for sharing with us. Have a wonderful day.

Always feels good to get tidy! Would it help to have a small trashcan in your kitchen specifically for bottles and daily take what is collected down to a larger container in the basement? My daughter is an engineer and her whole job is about evaluating processes in manufacturing, but our homes can uses systems too. You are doing great! It takes time to figure what works. 😊

When it comes to deciding things like where to store your heat solutions, pass that decision to your husband . . . Delegate as many decisions as you possibly can. But definitely invest in some clear garbage bags (usually called recycle bags) to store ANYTHING that is not trash. Not only will the contents not be mistaken for true trash, and disposed of so long as your family knows that the contents in clear bags is not trash, but you also won’t have to look into the bag to know what’s inside of it.

Karen, so glad, you are working on tidying the basement again, as I know you feel frustrated when the spaces get filled with summer things brought inside for the winter. Regarding storage of your gas bottles, may I recommend you make space near to your basement door, but not right next to it (incase of fire). This is because if they did explode and set on fire, then the fire brigade can just open the door and put the tanks out really quickly without having to go around obstacles to get to them and they can also drag those that aren’t on fire outside quickly to prevent the fire spreading. The fire brigade told us during our fire safety inspection to never store them by stairs as this means any potential fire can spread to other levels of your house up the stairs and with the stair draught. Also, they said never store them in rooms near the centre of the home where they are harder to get to if anything happens and means more of the home is likely to be affected in the event they explode. Regards books, I am a big Stephen King fan. I read quite a few of them when I was a teenager. My favourites are The Shining, It, Misery, Tommy knocker’s, Delores Claiborne, The Stand and Insomnia. As for book recommendations If you like mystery and detective novels, I can highly recommend reading Ian Rankin and Patricia Cornwell novels. With regards to advice books ‘The Power Of Letting Go by John Purkiss’ and ‘Hyper Focus by Chris Bailey are both really great reads.

Wait-- Isn’t your gas furnace right by that door? I would avoid any chance of sparks or pilot light malfunction near the propane tanks. Seems like a disaster waiting to happen!
@bethstratton339110 ай бұрын
@@emilasmith4279 You are quite correct the gas can’t be stored right by the furnace, but on the opposite wall between the Refrigerator and and the outside tools. That would probably be far enough away from the furnace for any sparks not to reach the gas. It is also wise to put the gas containers in a metal box with a latch for extra protection and to prevent sparks hitting the fuel.
@emilasmith427910 ай бұрын
@@bethstratton3391. And away from a gas water tank with pilot light. In my days as a disaster coordinator we watched a training film of a full explosive fire ball originate from a gas can near a gas water tank caused by a lit pilot light and fumes from the gas can. I have never gotten that intense combustion out of my head. The whole garage was engulfed in nano seconds. I don’t know the layout of Karen’s basement except seeing her new furnace by the back door. Thanks!

So true. I order online and get lots of big boxes for paper products. I made a tall slim box that fit discreetly in the corner. I can even put a 13 gallon tall trash bag in it. That where all our water bottles and cans go. It’s been a clutter saver and it didn’t cost me a thing.😊

The returnable bags look like they would fit a normal 13 gallon trash can though. I'd just check the size because it seems like they would be a standard size. And of they are a different size then maybe take one to a store to check the laundry hampers. :)
