The yellow lamps look so good with the yellow pillows. The new grey ones really don't work. Did you say that the newly framed prints from Florence will go over the bed? The painting that is currently there is beautiful, but is too green to go with the rest of the room.. I like the lighter, less muddy walls and I like the curtains.

It will be something that you and your friend Jonathan can enjoy doing together. In the meantime, I love the new look.

And might it be time to think about the bedside chests of drawers and upgrade those. Your architectural prints in those beautiful gold frames will look very elegant when you have time to put them up. I love the new color of the bedroom! I think the old lamps go extremely well with the new arrangement of your cushions. The yellow of the lamps and pillows add a subtle pop of color amidst the grey!

I think the old lamps matched the style much better but were a bit small. The new lamps are the right size and very beautiful but there is something about them that clashes with the classic look of your bedroom. I love the new colour on the walls, the table at the window and the painting above the bed. You did a great job. Maybe some Edwardian side tables would be great addition in the future.

Another tip for pillow covers- size up the insert or size down the cover. Meaning, stuff the sucker to the gills! 😊

Another tip also and I’ve done this with one of the rooms in my old house that is still there to this day is a iridescent gold paint the ceiling or you can use gold leaf. Anyways the entire ceiling gold and add four inches below that all along the walls all around the room. Add tape fine line it and paint that gold all around. Now you have gold ceiling and a four inch section all around the wall of gold. It goes with any style and colors in your house. And when you let in light it just looks amazing. Leave the grey tone below it still. It’s just the top part that will be gold. It makes any room look more grand and elegant. And with modern touches, it just makes the room glow beautiful

But idk if it made sense what I said. It’s hard to describe it. Just use a pencil you need a ruler ( a metal professional meter ruler works best) and masking tape. As you go along the wall from where the ceiling ends put the ruler measure four inches (always use 4 inches) mark that spot and space out the same all around then line them up connect them and add the masking tape where you put the lines make sure it’s exact and fine pressed. Preferable to use a wide masking tape so you don’t make a mess to the paint below. Once you have the tape all around then paint above that all around with the brightest gold leaf interior room paint you can find and also Paint the entire ceiling. You might need extra gold paint because gold paint is typically translucent so a get a good nice size. Maybe I would say about two of those gallon ones. Thank me later.

@@jdos5643Yes. I recently read that gilding your home with gold touches really elevates it. I recently hung an abstract picture with gold touches opposite a large window in my bedroom. When the sun shines in, the gold lights up so beautifully. It glows. In the wrong place, where the light cannot hit it, it looks completely awful. 🤪

The room is incredibly improved, it definitely has a cohesive point of view, now. I think the flooring change may help you with the lamp decision. I agree the current ones are a bit heavy for the room, and I really like the previous golden glass ones. But I was thinking a sisal rug gives a softer, almost seaside feel and I think the glass lamps will suit that softer feel - they also highlight the golden frames and gold cushions so well. I have a predominantly soft grey room and have been inspired to add some gold frames and soft yellow accents, just as you have - I think it is such a lovely early Summer look. As an aside - I can see a lovely Edwardian mahogany piano stool with an upholstered seat suiting the table you have in the window. I can't wait to see how it finally comes together.

I think the new lamps provide that bit of tension between classic and contemporary styles. The grey of the frame and lamps tie it all together. I’d hang the wall mirror. It all looks very inviting.

Check with Fungshua (sp) rules about mirrors in a room. They can cause restlessness if placed the wrong way.

Love those prints with the green mats and gold frames (cardinal guys). Thought you said you were going to hang the 3 architecural prints over your bed -- that would look great too since they have gold frames. I like the gray lamps too since they have gold around the bottom and pick up the gray in the room. I think it brings cohesiveness and continuity to your room. And, yes, I agree -- waiting and re-evaluating your decorating is always a good thing.

One of the rules of lamps or any applicance is never leave cables in sight. Hide those through the back. You want your space to feel less cluttered with cables. I have a flatscreen tv with the stands and instead of having the cables hanging out the back I pulled them to the side taped them behind the tv and the cable running behind the tv base itself down to the port. I tied it using black little metal uh I don’t know the name of those but some ppl tie their grocery bags with them. Anyways not looking at the tv from the front it looks modern sophisticated and clean. No cables in sight. Not even below the furniture itself.

The room looks lovely Nicolas. I do have a couple of suggestions..do put the yellow lamps back in the room, but elevate them with some books, as the scale of the lamps are to small for the table's and the ceiling height..that is why the new lamps are better size, just grey..no color..and with the gold pillows and yellow lamps and gold frames on the pictures you have color. Second suggestion..remove the mirror from the floor and hand it on the back of the door, as this is a common practice in the US, no chance of it getting broken. Also, you were going to hang the prints above your bed with the gold frames..would have looked stunning...Again, like you said a work in progress..do take care.

It would have been helpful to switch on the bedside table lamps to get the full effect and because the glow would add a lot to the room. The lamps are lovely but just a bit too high and overwhelming for the provincial style bedside tables. However I love them and would keep them. They are rich in style and add to the elegance of your makeover. What fun and what a delight you are.

Nicholas, I love your make over, if you dont have a big budget, get an area ŕug with the colors you love to match your room.. And another suggestion is you should change your head board. .Get it done in a color you love, or a color in that picture above your bed.. That might make it feel refreshed. as well..

Those bedside lamps are gorgeous. They need something on the bedside table to soften the look. Add an antique find, or a bunch of flowers. Perhaps elevate the lamps by placing a book under them, and add some other accessories.

Nick, here's a fun goofy idea - since you have a second bedroom that is unused, why not go and change that room and go outside of your designing comfort zone and decorate it where even you would be like whoa! Have one feature wall of a blue gray paint color and the rest of the room a light gray and then have the bedding grey with black and deep blue pillow cases. Then have fun searching for decorative items that match the theme.

I dread painting more than anything, so you always impress me. I do feel that the yellow glass lamps go better with the pillows and etchings from Paris, as well as the window desk. Others mentioned they seemed small. I always elevate lamps with books or risers or wood boxes for more of an impact. Also I love texture, so the pillows are my favorite. An over sized basket would look nice under the desk with a throw or extra pillows for another pop of color and texture in the space.

The new lamps are imposing and have a nice presence. I think the white shades, though, bring the room down. It's like the whole room is pretty monochromatic. I would try a different color for the shades, something stunning that would set the room apart from all the other gray rooms that are so popular. Especially since the all-gray trend is going away for a while, at least here in the U.S. Overall, the room looks lovely!

Yes I agree. The lamp shades need to be a color or a small pattern. I can’t tell about these shades, but it is possible to cover most lamp shades with fabric. I’m sure Nicholas could do it.

Hi, I really like the colour you've used in your bedroom...it brightens the room nicely. I also like the drapes framing the window. As for the new lamps...you mentioned that you wanted your bedroom to also have a masculine feel to it and I believe these lamps provide that for you. Their colour, shape and texture provide a nice contrast to the softer effects of your bedding, drapes, table etc.

Very yesssss! To adding some color over the bed.. . You still need a eye catcher in there and more color. I did away with my grey because it is boring and hard to work with. A beautiful throw would do wonders. ❤
