Besides the white salt block, you can give him that same salt in a loose form. When ever a horse of ours is sick or the weather goes from really hot to much cooler, we sprinkle roughly an ounce of loose salt (you can buy it at the feed) on top of there grain. One of the biggest causes of colic is not enough water intake. Giving them salt this way helps them keep them hydrated. A horse isnt going to know when they need more water and you can't force them to drink, so our vet told us that it is great to have a salt block but the loose salt really helps for issues like Roman has.

I'm sad to hear he's sick. Not surprised though. It happens a lot when an animal is shipped. But, THANK YOU FOR KEEPING HIM SEPARATE from other equines!!! It's so important to have a quarantining period for any new animal that is added to your home or farm! The minimum is normally 14 days. I'm really glad you didn't bring him straight to LHL. So again, thank you for loving him and being responsible ❤️

And thank you for tellling us this my heart goes out to our sweet Mr. Roman he has been through a lot . Years ago i watch this documentary on Amish people and the way they lived . They were rough on their animals , they would work them from sun up until sun down . They didnt go out and love on they just treated them like a old tool . They used a harness for all their horses rather they fit or not . If he bleed from it he would just have to get use to it as you seen from his scars . He probably didnt know what love was like until he got their .He started liking Lester but i see a difference now . Dont know what happened but tell Lester be patient with him and he can win it back . When he sees a man with a harness it brings back bad and sad memories to him . They feel the same as humans do so dont forget that . Women he sees and feels love , kindnest and caring thats why he reacts that way . Why do men sometimes forget that is beyond me . They had a mama that gave them that kind of love but yet amish men just dosent see that . Roman was just another tool on their ranch 😔 !!! Just tell our beloved Roman that we love him even if were not their and if we were their he would be so smothered with hugs , kisses and word of love he would be a king and never forgotten and tell him to get better and we are praying for him. I believe that a horses health depends alot on his environment for his physical and mental health. I also believe he has found that special place that reaches both of these at JL Ranch. However I'm finding it odd that within a week Paris, Roman, Buffy and Voodoo all took sick. I hope they are all on the mend asap
