i almost feel that in that moment, he was asking her if she loved him. and I think she couldn't and didn't say it because deep down, she isn't actually in love w Michael. She loves him and cares for him and the fear of losing him (because obviously boundaries change in marriage) pushes her to think she is in love but its mainly that she feels Michael is hers and not Kimmy's.

I didn't use any foul language but my tone was angry and my voice was really loud. She kept quite and did not even move when I got angry. Normally a woman under such a situation, will turn her body away from the guy, or take a step away from the guy, or start to yell back at the guy . So Why did she not move even one step away from me when I got angry ? She only moved when the train came to get in the train.

I loved this movie since 1997. I was so madly in love with a guy, whom I considered my best friend. And he actually had a girlfriend at the time . And I swear to you, this scene of the movie, broke my heart into tiny little pieces. Because I too, felt this exact same way. Your story reminds me of something a little similar to what you went through, Back in high school, I fell in love with this guy who I thought was my friend, I fell in love with his personality, his kindness, and his manners, when me and my friends, along with him, graduated in May 2017, the next year, one of my friends forced me to tell him, only to hear that he had liked my other friend the whole time, and was turned down, I was angry and hurt, mostly at my friend since she knew, and because I couldn’t be with him as more than just a friend, though, I refused to believe that was it, I still hoped that one day he’d see me the way I did with him, but, it never happened, later that year, his personality began to change, he became clingy, getting mad when we couldn’t go and hang out somewhere, not caring that we also had lives of our own, he ghosted us for weeks once because of it, not coming back to “apologize” until the next month, days after my graduation from my internship at Seton hospital at the time, he made this big apology video on Snapchat since we had a group chat, the camera facing AWAY from him the ENTIRE time. In June 2020, just three weeks before my birthday, he left us to find “better friends” to hang out with that will “pay attention to him”, it took me three months to get myself together again, to this day, I still get angry that I didn’t see the red flags, knowing that if I had ended it sooner back when he ghosted us and decided to come back and “apologize”, I wouldn’t have experienced the pain I felt when he left, the experience has also scarred me to the point where I’m afraid to love or trust anyone.

This moment of intimacy between them, when time stopped for them, was admittance of what they were to each other. And in some ways always will be. That if there was anything in their hearts that needed to be said, now was the time. After the moment passes, it's a farewell. A bittersweet moment.

I think Jules didn’t say anything because he referenced Kimmy in the quote about love. If Jules did admit to loving him right then, it would imply adopting Kimmy’s ethos as a guideline for her own behavior and choices in relation to him. I think the irony of that was not lost on Jules, and that’s why she stays silent.

So sad, yet very powerful scene. If she loved him truly, she would have shown it during those years. She sort of took him for granted and you don’t do that when you love someone. He did end up running after Kim, so there’s the answer to the quandary. Jules should have realized it sooner, but she could not have. She was wrapped up in herself. But it wasn’t the time for her. For Kim, it’s different.

You know this scene didn't look to me as if Michael wanted Jules to give him an out. Even if Jules had confessed she loved him, Michael would have still married Kimmy. This was just Michael wanting Jules to verbalize just how she felt about him. He knows she loves him, but saying it out loud means she has to truly be vulnerable and admit it to him. He wants to know he's had the same impact on her that she's had on him. Some exes are special and it's heartbreaking when we realize that we haven't made the kind of impact on them that they've made on us. And we feel that closure is them admitting that they feel the loss too.

They both had the moment but failed to verbalize. Feel the connection and realize. He knew that he was not in true love with kimmi and could not tell Julia he loves her even when he breaks spontaneously into their song. What other clues u need? They should have been together. Kimmi looked more into the fantasy than in love. She was giving away her life for him in foolish way which is not sustainable.(not finishing school, ready to mold into Michael’s wishes rather than their together dreams)

This was her chance to show that she wasn't just trying to keep him from being with someone else. He got his answer here, and if she truly wanted to be with him later in the movie, it was simply too late. It's an important lesson in life. We need to make up our minds about what we want, because the train will leave the station.

I used to think the point of this scene was that Julez missed her chance with Michael, but now I realized it's to show that she was never right for him in the first place. The whole movie we're viewing Kimmy as the obstacle between Jules and Michael, but the real obstacle was actually Jules herself. Here Michael is all but confirming that he feels for her and hints that he knows she loves him. It's like he was gently testing if she was really the one for him, when he says what made our love fail is that we never expressed ourselves. So I need a love that's consuming...where you can't help but express it no matter who's watching. And Jules failed. Michael realized that no matter how he felt about her, she couldn't meet his emotional needs. The contrast to this was the karaoke scene, where Kimmy isn't afraid to sing awfully because she's so consumed by her love for Michael. The sad reality is Jules didn't actually love him, because real love inspires that type of fearlessness. She was just terrified to lose him.
