studios worked for a while, then many were caught for not being able to resale. young couples are looking for 1000sqft ish. Not tiny 300-400 sqft

Normally locals anywhere won't buy studios for own stay. But they are usually highly rent-able to foreigners and out of state people working in town. So buyers who hold this type of property are expecting the cashflow to work.

Penthouses are one of the worst properties to be resold into the resale market. This is true in both Malaysia and Singapore. The buyers at this price range are very few and they tend to opt for landed properties instead. So, your mistake is not a Malaysian issue, it's an asset choice that is too highly priced compared to its value.
