One thing you should do is clean or replace the filter that covers the CVT. The belt is not replaceable without tearing the bike apart. The filter allows the CVT to be air-cooled without getting dirt inside.

I have a 2004 Burgman 650. My dad rode a Harley until he could not handle it anymore. He picked up the Burgman 650 and loved it. Used it in parades for the Blue Knights. I ended up with it after he passed. Love it. It just recently stopped moving. It is at the shop, replaced the clutch, CVT belt. Only 4,000 miles on it. Something between the clutch and Rear gears is not working. I hope to have it back soon. Ride on.

The rest of the world isn't so caught up in the American Harley, center of the Universe,..why don't you get areal bike, BS. Yeah,..smaller scoots aren't great for trips, but amazing for city slicking,..but once you get into these bigger scoots they're amazing ! Had a Kymco exciting 500, and that thing would pull 80mph before you even realized how fast you were going. And it topped out at arond 103mph.

Nice to see someone just happy to be out and about on the Burgy 650. They say the rider quickly develops the Burgman grin. I did and I still have it. Fast when needed and very comfortable. Beware the speedo reading. They are known to over read by 10% throughout the range. I discovered that as well when my gps was used. There's a guy online under the name LeDude. Many vids on maintenance, disassembly, wheels off etc. Sadly only for up to about 2012 so no longer useful for me.

I have owned many motorbikes over my life. Toured around the States as well as the Canadian Maritimes. My most recent touring bikes have been BMW's. I had a K75RT and an R1100R. They both were exceptional bikes, but a friend of mine had a 650 Burger which he rode from SC to Alaska twice! One day we were riding in West VA on some pretty challenging roads and as hard as I pressed that K75, I'd look in the mirrors and there'd be the front of that Burgman... Finally I was grinding metal and at the limits of my riding skills and still... there was the front of that damn Burgman in my mirrors! My R1100 handled really, really well but the Burgman 650 handles very nearly as good. Really! You just have to use a bit different technique. I bought my '07 650 Executive when I was having some hip problems that prevented me from swinging a leg over a conventional moto. The 2 BMW's are now gone and I can unequivocally say that the Burger is the finest touring bike I have ever owned. BTW, the top speed is electronically limited to 115 mph, at least on mine.

I had 115 out of my Burgman 650 (2002) Standand. Only had 105 out of my 2010 Exec. Being automatic doesn’t a scooter make, right from the Second World War right up to today there has been geared scooters, with a clutch, and front and rear brake, the rear brake is floor mounted just like a car. I have a vespa PX200EFL and a Lambretta GP 200. I think myself what makes people class a scooter as a scooter is the lack of a petrol tank in the frame. The reason I have come to this conclusion is because, when I ride towards a bike on my Suzuki Burgman 650 I put my hand up and because it looks like a big touring bike head on they greet me back. That till the get closer and see it’s got no tank. Boy do they drop the hand quickly. Lol sad really cos I’ve had so many bikes and love em all. Just wanted to add, cos it’s a biggie, I too admire your desire to honour your debt. In the young of today it’s outstanding! A credit to your parents and to you too. It’s all too easy to take the road of lack of ethics. God Bless you my friend, oh and I pray your trip comes off for you x

I have a 2009 Executive AN version. These bikes are no longer sold in Australia only the 400 and 200 are available now. In my opinion when they were made these bikes were the benchmark for maxi scooters. All the features you mention are good - the Executive has the electrical fold in mirrors and the electrically adjustable screen. Storage in the dash is great and the under seat are will take two full face helmets. A top box completes the storage. ABS brakes are a good feature with twin discs up front and a single disc on the rear. The manual mode is great for the highway as it provides a 6th gear for better fuel economy. Burgmans run very smoothly and accelerate smoothly so make sure it’s smooth running. Listen for any squeaking in the suspension. Check that all the storage areas hinges all work and everything closes. Listen for any noises from the cvt housing like a shredding belt hitting the inside of the housing. So, Mirrormask MV you still haven't figured out what all the controls do? obviously since you 've only gotten to 102 mph..hahaha. to start with if your cruising at 60 mph tap that yellow button on the left and jump in to manual. Don't stop first just tap it. than tap the orange up button to get it in to the right gear. and feel your burgy come to life. when you come up on a cage and you can pass switch back to automatic and tap that power button and give that throttle a hard twist and hang on. don't let off until you reach 115 mph. I mean if your gonna ride it at least ride it like you stole it. oh and the 6 speed gearbox is an electric manual gearbox. while it's not the same as a traditional gearbox it's still a gearbox. do yourself a favor go find someone that owns a harley 883. and challenge them to a race title for title. 1 mile distance flatout. then you'll see what that burgman you have can really do. top speed from the factory for the 883 is only 90 mph. it's like taking candy from a baby all day long. you might even convert the 883 owner...hehehehehe

Yeh I played around with the controls after the video and figured it all out. It really opens up the powerband in manual

650 doesn't have a variator belt , 400 has one . I own a 07 and it loves the freeway and the back roads . I keep it in auto on the back roads and manual on the freeway , just my preference . this guy is right, it kicks ass for me
