Best movie ever. Of course, the bits about the Greek house in middle class America was the reverse for me. I was an Irishwoman in Astoria, Queens. EVERYONE was Greek or Italian. To this day it's "Dolmades" not "Grape Leaves," and Metaxa is still the "spirit of Greece." Opa!

I love this film. My mother loves greece like its her second country, spending at least 2-4 weeks of her life there every year since she was a teenager. I love fisiting the country and getting to know the people and their culture.
@calliopibertos40207 жыл бұрын
Many cultures have family/culture first, while an assimilated American family emphasises the individual. Any culture that esteem the family over the individual will definitely identify with this Greek family. We Greeks are tribal in our mentality as many other ethnic groups, this why I believe this movie really struck a chord with so many people. Besides, we know how to have fun and enjoy life, in general!

The obsession with our ancient history is unique to Greeks and the belief that we gave the greatest gift ever to the world is more true with us and therefore more essential to our culture. Italians don’t give two shits about the Romans.

Story of my life!! Just tonight my yiayias sister, my thea, and my mom wanted to walk me to my car as I was leaving Greek fest, which was just on the other side of the park gate. My great aunt was so scared because it was dark out so she asked the cops to escort us to my car. The look on the cop's face when walked only several feet to my car was priceless. Oh & my yiayia keeps asking when I'm getting married. One thing I do know I'lll have a small wedding of probably 350-400 people.

As a Greek… I’m so offended by the stereotypes… Because they are way too accurate 😂 I wouldn’t trade it though. I married an Irish white boy and he definitely had to ask my father’s permission to ask me on a date, he was NOT used to that. But hey, married almost 11 years and YES he was chrysmated in the Orthodox Church 😂
