you are correct. My friend sets up security cameras and uses these kind of boxes to connect all the cameras together, then outputs to 2 displays. 1 display is cycling through all the cameras every few minutes, and the other display is one you can select what camera you want to look at.

Recently I added a Component signal splitter to my setup. It allows me to split the console signal to a CRT and my OSSC. Then the OSSC outputs to HDMI which is connected to my capture card. It helps if I want to stream, but use a CRT or capture footage without compromising frames.

I have that same switch. It's definitely worth checking out. The LEDs are ungodly bright. One thing I would recommend is getting something called "light dims" on Amazon. They are stickers that you can put over LEDs to dim them. Also.. I tried plugging an IR receiver into the IR input and it got super hot, super fast... I don't know why. I would recommend not using it if anyone is wondering. Lastly, the auto-detect gets confused with any devices with a sleep function or persistent 5V output. Personally, I manually switch between devices.

I have this issue as well with trying to figure out plugging in a bunch of HDMI consoles, I have tried multiple solutions over the years, but my current solution I feel works great. I use 4 HDMI auto switches plugged into an HDMI Matrix. All I have to do is select the input on the matrix that I want to send to my TV. The HDMI switches will automatically change to the correct input. Effectively I have 16 inputs using this method and a built in HDMI splitter in the matrix. This also allows me to keep the switches near the consoles and use short HDMI cables overall from the consoles and only 4 longer cables running from the switches to the matrix. It's also a much smaller footprint for the matrix near my TV, as I am cramming everything into a single bedroom. There probably isn't much of a price difference as the HDMI splitters x4 + Matrix would probably cost around the same. I have lag tested them all and there's no detectable increase in latency.

I use a AV reciever for switching between HDMI wirh 8 in and 2 out. It's a Marantz SR5013 cost about $1,000 when it was new, but there plenty of cheaper options. The benefits you get with a AV reciever better compatibility especially anything Dolby related, or HDR content on modern consoles. Using a cheaper Chinese switch box, you going run more audio and video issues. If you want a good switcher, I recommend getting a Monoprice Blackbird switcher, I used 10 x 1 Blackbird switcher, it was an older model with only 1080p support. Monoprice's switchers work the best out of all the other brands I have tried.

I’ve got a few HDMI manglers now, including the 8-port KVM version of this. It’s actually quite a nice little box, and tends to work really well. I’ve been running it for a couple years now I think? Time flies. I’ve got a couple other HDMI matrix boxes by Gofanco, one of which is really stable, and the other is … opinionated. You just never know with these fly-by-night companies that buy other companies’ designs and slap their names on it. But the only other alternative is throwing down $1500 or more for one of the big system integration brand’s products. For the price, these do alright, and it sure beats daisy-chaining a dozen cheap little boxes together.

Oh yeah the splitter vs switcher. The other one to be careful of is the audio Coax to Optical or vise versa depending on what you're trying to do. My TV for some reason won't pass through PCM so the Nintendo stuff is plugged directly into my receiver. The TV passes Dolby just fine and 2 channel PCM but not surround. I use a 8 port HDMI switcher. Come to think about it, do you not have an audio system? That would make a huge difference!

HDMI switches don’t add lag, they have no frame buffer. It would make far more sense to daisy chain the switches and connect the ps5 directly to the oled. Connecting like this you limit the ps5 (and xbox or gaming pc) to 60hz which is a big compromise to make. Get two of the 16 port switches and just daisy chain them.

@@AdamsBrew78 You heard wrong, lots of games support 120hz. Some like Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart support 40hz modes on VRR compatible displays for a better compromise between framerate and visuals. Yep, you guys are on the right track. It’s for monitoring a large number of systems that you don’t necessarily need to interact with, like cameras, or live feeds, servers perhaps (although that’s more likely to be a KVM model), etc. The phantom channels that it adds to the scanning sequence may be because some devices insist on sending a signal down the HDMI cable even when they’re “off.” Maybe not full video, but just enough presence to make the switcher think something’s there. The issue jumping back to a device probably has to do with HDCP, the HDMI DRM. It is about as helpful as a 10NES when it gets into a reset loop with a cart that otherwise is booting fine.

Curious to see if you run in to the same issue I did.... so HDMI CEC allows automatic switching, control. and powering on and off of devices...sounds great right..you turn something on and it auto switches to that input and powers on the TV or etc if it is off. Well..... running through my HDMI switcher the PS3 REFUSES to let go of it's connection even when it is in sleep mode / off (off not unplugged). so let's say I decide to play the nintendo switch and turn it on...well the switcher stays stuck on the PS3 input and I have to manually switch to the other input. I tried changing every dang setting on the PS3, multiple cables, moving the PS3 around on the switch and nothing works to stop the dang thing from holding on to the HDMI connection. I know first world problems.... but it does get annoying to be sitting down, try to turn on the nintendo switch with the controller, to then find out I have to get up and switch the HDMI (or dig the remote out and point it at the device)...and many times by the time I get it over...the switch went back to sleep and the PS3 is once again taking control.

I'm surprised with the component section of your setup that you haven't invested in a larger capacity component switcher like the gcompsw or an older pelican system selector pro. Each have 8 inputs but the gcompsw has 2 outputs for if you wanted a second monitor, game capture, or another switcher integrated into the setup later down the line. Then you wouldn't have a need for the way you currently switch between all the component cables

@@roflmypancakes have you looked at matrix switchers for bnc connections? They're a little more finicky to get started because you have to adapt the cables which adapters are fairly inexpensive they're usually less than half the price of a gcompsw and you can usually find ones with more than 8 outputs and even after the adapters you can still come out on top with more money in your pocket than if you went ahead and bought the gcompsw. It drives me insane how there's a MILLION HDMI *_splitters_* out there with an ass-load of HDMI ports but basically no HDMI *_switchers_* with an equal amount of HDMI ports. Outside of electronics stores that are looking to display the same signal on multiple TVs, who in the name of tap-dancing Jesus Christ has the need to display the same signal on a crap-load of displays?!

You would think the initial $200 purchase wouldn't be a problem when you've spent so much on the actual consoles!

Is this your primary channel now or is the modern channel getting some uploads in the near future?

They will be treated equally. This one needed a big start. There are uploads coming to other channel too.

does it work with the ps3? I know that console can be kinda stingy with hdmi switchers...
