My big studio upgrade: an ATC SCM45A Pro review

In the new studio I added a pair of ATC SCM45A Pro monitors. Here are my impressions after working with them for a while.

Disadvantage: Heavy, not cheap. Advantage: You are in a position to afford such expensive speakers. I'm glad you have your studio back up and running. Thanks for the update, and I look forward to future updates.

Thanks for the update. I really love ATC Monitors. I had the 25a's in my studio to try out for mixing. I understand the full separation of the instruments that the ATC sound provides. However, I wanted some cohesiveness sound when mixing and decided to return them and get the Focal trios 6 which do provide some separation, but some cohesiveness as well. They also have an 8-inch woofer, which has more low end than the 25a's and I am happy with them

That’s a great review! The Slate VSX Archon room with the ATC SCM150 monitors is the best room in the collection for me! I can dream about owning them, but as you mentioned I would need to sell my car first! I’m so glad to learn that you have been able to move forward with your studio and career after such trauma that you endured. You are the man!

It seems that everyone who gets the ATC are saying the same thing, they are amazing, I like the fact they reveal the 3-4k issues on GTR

I had my choice between ATCs and the Focal Trio 11 Bes; I chose the latter, mainly due to my producing and mixing music with substantial low end. I may audition the SCM45s to see how clean and controlled the low end sounds - who knows, I may trade!

They are both great speakers. The ATCs have a smoother top end than the Focals, but many people love the very bright Focal sound.

Do think it would be OK to use this size Speakers in a 12'wx16'Lx9'H Room?

I think so, but if you play them really loud it will enhance of some of the problems in the room.

Well then it sounds like I should count by blessings (happy owner of the original 25’s, no problems as of now).

@@Lychegsye-nc6td it is.. many threads, many people. Sound clips, measurements etc. An ATC distributor is trying to patch things up. The issue seems to be more prevalent with models that were made in 2021 and 2022. ATC seems to have solid customer service at least
