Would be nice to see a review of the ATC SCM25’s, as it’s probably the most interesting model for smaller project studios. A side by side with Quested V3110 and others in that range would be cherry on the cake.

This is brilliant - hell, if it doesn't get at least 1,000,000 views, it would be a crime! The effort you guys put in to these videos is wonderful - and it's clear, you are having an absolute blast doing them. It's like a mini british comedy, with some geeky audio reviews thrown in to boot, or ... maybe the other way around ... I don't know. It's good. Very good. And it's criminal that this wonderful odd couple are not getting the eyeballs they need and a deal with ITV1.

This video is crazy! The lengths you guys go through to make your videos unique and entertaining; I love it! You guys have, undoubtedly, the most unique audio production channel on KZbin, hands down! One question about these monitors though; how's the stereo separation and sweet spot? They're exceptionally well reviewed, and I've heard that the stereo separation is great, but I don't see a wave guide. Any clarity on that? Does it sound very wide, like some JBLs?
@PresentDayProduction3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! And yeah, we went to crazy lengths with this one… the sea in England in October is COLD! The stereo imaging is excellent with these. You can hear the smallest of pan moves extremely well, and the sweet spot is super wide. If they were mounted on stands behind a large format console you’d have no trouble hearing everything from channel one to channel xx. There are waveguides, but they are built into the drivers. There’s a teeny one on the tweeter, and the mid dome is horn loaded. When mastering, when someone has overcooked the stereo width enhancement in the mix it’s blindingly obvious on these!

I've heard these in person and my immediate impression was the accuracy of the mids. I was listening to metal tracks and the guitars sounded like I was listening to the amp in person and not like a recording of a guitar amp, if that makes sense. Since then that is how I reference all speakers now.
@PresentDayProduction3 жыл бұрын
Exactly that! And then you start to hear a lot of material that was mixed on a lesser monitor, and it’s over compressed and lifeless! That mid is so important.

Q: Was it pure selfless altruism which made you marry ‘both’ speakers..? A: Yes... it was big o’me..! I can see why you said the speakers were critically-dampened... I imagine Hazel & Ben were rather scathing about bathing with them in the ocean (not really... while the boxed speaker was clearly-genuine, I imagine the water was all CGI). So, despite appearing to be bass-light, they do work for ‘dance’ music... albeit just the ‘Conga’ track (?) Great video ! I had the chance to hear the ATC SCM 150 ASL first, then the 45A. The sound of ATC's speakers is absolutely amazing and consistent across their product range. I'm still hesitating to buy the 45A but I find they lack of low end. Upper models are (maybe) too big for my room, also more expensive... the idea of getting a sub and get it to work properly makes me a bit nervous. What would be your advice ? Thank you
@PresentDayProduction3 жыл бұрын
There is indeed more bass-end on the larger speakers such as the 100 or the 150, you’re right. The 45 in my opinion (James) was lovely but lacked the extreme detail of the SL mid driver found in the more expensive models, and also the bass response just isn’t as much because the drivers and cabinet are smaller. I would recommend a sub if you’re going for 45’s. However, when you buy a subwoofer, it needs to be the same quality as your main speakers, otherwise you’re essentially downgrading a major part of your sound

I was vacillating between these and the Genelec 8351B for quite a while. Went with the Genelec for several reasons, not the least of which was cost: $8K vs $13K US. That, and I've been using Genelec for a long time. I've never listened to ATC, but I'm quite confident that the Genelec are comparably accurate to the ATC. I'm currently doing well with my Amphion One18's, but one day I'm sure it's time for an upgrade. We did have a day on Amphions when we went to the SSL factory a couple of years ago. They had them in their control room there. My guess on the 15% thing: headphones Edit: ok it's not. But i still wanted to ask what you guys think of the Audeze LCDXs especially regarding the PSIs as the Audeze Membrane is said to have quite the same quick reaction and by that - low distortion. It's being compared to 15k-20k speakers.
