I have been subscribed for FOREVER. I used to follow your tutorials like your chibi cat and dog boy drawings. I love you channel and it’s nice cause I am growing with your videos. This video came right when I was feeling ready to sell and wanting to start. I appreciate how much you have taught me and how you have inspired me to grow and continue art so thank you!

Great advice, as always. I've been using the same printing company for over 11 years and love them. I print books in short run as well as all my Critter Express products. I also order 11x17 for everything and cut them myself with my guillotine cutter. On those sheets I can fit 6 4x6s, 4 5x7s, 2 8.5x11s, or 12 Back-Forty Bookmarks (2x6) or a variety of sizes. Plus I also use the filler space to print Hayseed Bookmarks which are 1/2" x 6" and those are now collectible since there are so many. I did ACEO sizes but haven't found the the audience for them yet. I can no longer do shows or conventions, even though we now finally have a small comic con, because my latex and other allergies have worsened so severely I kept having such breathing trouble I end up in the ER. This has REALLY hurt sales, sadly, as my audience was not primarily online. I tell most people, when asked, where I get stuff printed is a trade secret. The reason being is in my umpteen years of doing it the majority of people want to know how much it cost you to print that item because they shouldn't have to pay your price or they want you to print something for them. I've had thousands and thousands fit both categories. I even had a few grumpy people that went to a lot of my shows and wanted to dicker over the price of a 25c bookmark... at every show! I also had displays for the smaller items, so they wouldn't disappear, like your sticker sheet. I can't tell you how many times I heard something like $2.00 for this whole thing?!" (and they would mean the whole display!) The loving, supportive, awesome people make all the rest disappear. And if someone truly wants to create and sit and discuss shop with me, sincerely, I recommend them to my favorite suppliers as well as my printer and tips on what works for me.

I love smaller prints, and I've managed to accumulate some of yours. :D It's nice to be able to move them around or pin them up in odd spaces, and give them as gifts that don't take up a lot of room.

Btw for print services most Costco’s have printing availability with bulk and options in size, matte/glossy, frame, etc it works and if you want something with local pickup I highly recommend used it for school for YEARS

I've always wanted to do an art table at an artist alley but can't afford it. All of my bills are taking almost every penny, but it's still been a dream of mine to do though. I'd love to learn all I can about how to do them and what to expect. I know that in almost all cases, you have to provide your own table set up, including the framing and decorations (which is a given). I think i'll just take it slow and gradually get the items I need then try to do a con or two. I also want to re-start my KZbin channel. I had it started with a few subscribers and I'm not in it for getting famous but to my art out there for everyone to enjoy. I also have a thing against selling too much fan art because those are not my original characters but I know that in the creative license part of the law, we're allowed some leniency...still iffy. I want to respect all corners of the art world. I'll study up some more.

I wouldn’t be comfortable yet setting up a table cuz I feel my art isn’t good yet ;-; but I used to go to comic cons a lot and the first year or two I only bought plushies and Knick knacks that were imported in bulk, but then I started only buying at the artist alley cuz I admired the indie and local artists that actually made their own products with so much passion, I stopped buying at the vendors and just supported my fellow artists ☺️

I'm looking to be a seller starting in 2022. I'm nearly 30 years old, been on the con scene since 2009 and had open heart surgery in 2020 so I'm not sure if I can take walking around cons anymore but I'll find out in November. I'd like more tips on setting up displays, inventory, storage and so much more!

Thanks for another great video. One of my goals for next year is to sell at a convention and I found your advice very helpful. One question. I can't afford a machine to make stickers. Can Vistaprint make stickers of art or do you have another suggestion on where to go?
@ArtalaCarte5 жыл бұрын
They do make circle stickers. Mule sticker has some great options and pretty good sales. When I first started, I just made them by hand. Lots of cutting. Lol

Have you looked into adding captions? The auto-generated ones can be kind of confusing, and for some reason they seemed more messed up for this video than for most of your others. I don't know all the different ways that can be done, but I'm one fan that would really appreciate it if it's feasible. Thanks, Valerie. ☮️💜

Great info about the mystery of selling your stuff! I do have a question about how you would take payments. Do you have one of those card reader doohiceys for your phone or tablet? Do you have to bring a cashbox with enough to make change ? Are those provided by the convention host?
@ArtalaCarte5 жыл бұрын
I have a Square card reader. If you have a smart phone, they are super easy as long as you have internet. Some cons have really poor internet.
@Meshya5 жыл бұрын
Oh man. SO much advice lol. You hit all the good basics though! I think my biggest learning experience though was keeping certain tools on hand. 3x5 cards, tape, sharpie pens, clips, rope, battery-powered light s and batteries. the list goes on. I'll never forget working C4 and the power going out for 2 hours due to a car hitting the power line. I was so happy for my string lights then. Just be prepared for the inevitable weirdness and always make friends with your neighbors. You're all in this together. Side note! Those corgi stickers are adorable!

Where did you get that button cutter before you put in the button maker?? Other artists have gotten nasty and grumpy with me when I've asked them where they have gotten there things. I dont paritcually like that. But then I've met only a small small few who have been very kind to me and told me somethings. I'm not sure why that happens either. I understand other artists arent obligated to tell you anything but it's just really off putting seeing as how were supposed to be supporting each other in some ways.
