So apparently I've read 17 of these (+3 more where I've read the first book in the series, lol) and have 2 on my TBR... Wall of text incoming 😅 Amina surprised me by how much I loved it! I need a sequel yesterday. Godkiller was great! I'm really looking forward to the Priory prequel. Just read The Terraformers this weekend and it's definitely very unique. It's written in 3 parts and I struggled with the time jump between parts 1 and 2, but definitely really enjoyed the themes that we're working with (labor theory of value, definitions of intelligence, revolutions, democratic republics and the maintenance of those communities, public vs private property, communal responsibility, etc) Elder Race has a really interesting thing that it does with format, but I otherwise found it really repetitive (especially for how short it is) and lacking in plot and characters. So ultimately it was disappointing for me, but I think the cover is gorgeous and almost a more interesting story in itself. Wisteria Society was one of my fav books last year! I love her hypochondriac aunt who constantly gets things wrong, lmao. The sequel didn't really work for me, but I re-read book one this year and loved it just as much a second time. And Mysteries of Thorn Manor is one of my fav books so far this year. I'm currently reading The Keeper of Enchanted Rooms and there are certainly elements that give me similar vibes (eg one day he wakes up and overnight the house had merged his room -and his bed- with the housekeeper's!) I've not read SA yet, but The Emperor's Soul is my favourite Brando Sando I've read. Hope you love it! Had a really great buddy read on the re-read where we were talking about some of the more subtle details in the background like colonialism and the displacement of/prejudice against the native populations and how they view/use magic in particular. The Magician's Daughter had me thinking it'd be a new fav in the beginning, but it got really YA and disappointing for me once it changed locations. Audiobook had really good Irish accents, though. Garlic is one of my absolute favs!! If you love them, I highly recommend you also check out Lightfall by Tim Probert. They both have gorgeous, autumnal art and really fantastic anxiety rep. (Though Lightfall is slightly aged up over Garlic.) Man, there are few books I think I hate more than The Prison Healer. There's certainly a group of people who love it, but I 0% understand. It felt very Kate and Leopold to me? You know, where the hero is a fabulous, perfect, do-no-wrong cinnamon roll and the author clearly loves him the most, but the main character is absolutely wretched... but she's pretty and the first woman the hero meets, so he falls madly in love with her for no other reasons? (But mostly I was let down by the trials cause I loooooove trials/tournaments/competition/etc. The MC just has them happen to her. 0% efficacious, doesn't do anything on her own, just gets helped by other people) ...The Last Tale of the Flower Bride definitely competes with it for most hated, though 😂

Woah omg! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a long and thoughtful comment! This was such a joy to read. I'm so glad you enjoyed Amina! Agreed, I'm already desperate for the sequel, it was such an immersive world! I've seen the cover of Keeper of Enchanted Rooms many times but had no idea what it was about! I'll have to keep my eye out for that one, the comparison to Mysteries of Thorn Manor is a VERY strong selling point for me. Lightfall sounds so fun! Dang, coming in strong with the recommendations today, thank you! Ahaha, oh no 😅 Well at least I didn't shell out a lot for the Prison Healer sequels, I bought them both used. I'm crossing my fingers that I'll still enjoy them, but my expectations are certainly adjusted now. A lot of the points you bring up are pretty big turn offs for me, womp. Last Tale of the Flower Bride definitely wasn't what I was expecting, even after some of the reviews I saw for it before reading. I wish it had been marketed correctly, I think it definitely has an audience, it just wasn't really my thing unfortunately. Thank you again for your comment! 😊

@@lexieslibrary Apparently I had to balance out the other commenter who had 0.01% books in common 😅 I hope Lightfall gets more love like Garlic is starting to; they're such sweet, little hugs with the occasional, just-right addition of humor or sentiment.
