Been alot of year's since I fished musky. But my biggest fish came out of Trout Lake in northern Wisconsin in 1992. 54.5in fish that was well over 40lbs in late September when I caught her long lining a depth raider on a weed flat that dropped sharply to 50+ft. That's a day Ill never forget.

I hear you and joe say that for blue bird skies you fish with minowbaits and glideraiders alot, what made you throw a bucktail in this situation?
@MuskyMastery4 жыл бұрын
Michael that is a great question man. On this particular body of water 700 Goldielocks is KING. I am not sure why? But on that lake, in sunny conditions, gold colored bucktails just pull attention from the muskies. So to answer your question, I would say it is just a time on the water observation. Certain lakes, under certain conditions favor pink bucktails, and some lakes are also seasonal to this too - so like in June pink will work and then die off. (Which is weird!) And on other lakes there are colors that will work best. On some lakes for example, in overcast conditions, black/nickel and/or grape flame will be the ticket (generally). So it is just a feel game. Hope that helps man!

Do the longer rods these days take the trolling motor out of “ play”? It seems as though you don’t worry too much when fish in general move across the bow.
@MuskyMastery5 жыл бұрын
Yes and no... the LEM90MHF certainly helps keep the musky "away" from the trolling motor during the fight but big ones like Ghidorzi can really, at times, do whatever they want! It doesn't matter how strong you are as an angler.. these giant muskies will really go where they want during a fight at certain points and you just have to "hold on" and stay patient. Longer rods help in so many different ways... But again, it depends on the situation. On this fish... I was actually very worried when she went across the bow during the initial part of the fight when she was really going hard.

80lbs line.. . Is this the world of fishing now?
@MuskyMastery5 жыл бұрын
RRC, yes 80 lb test is the world of fishing now! :) Part of the reason is because of course, the technology has changed so much! Now our 80 lb test super braid lines have the diameter of 18 lb test - giving us super strength without the bulk. The other reason I use 80 lb test is not because I necessarily plan on catching an 80 lb musky, although that would be awesome, but because of the abbrasive structure I fish my lures around. Fishing jagged rock structure, casting around dead falls and downed trees and trolling around fish cribs and all sorts of other dangerous things calls for TOUGH line - so that we do not lose the lures or the muskies that eat them. Thanks for watching and tight lines!!!

Thanks for watching dude! I really appreciate it! It is tough to say and very easy to go both ways on that topic... When she grabbed the double-8 in the fig-8 she was hooked (from what I could see in the stained water) with one point of the treble in the very outside on roof of the top lip. The heavy power St. Croix might have kept her pinned? But having the medium-heavy power helped me a TON when fighting her the in Sept. The medium-heavy allows a little more forgiveness on those big boatside power runs.
