Great stuff, Chas - thanks!! I'm so happy for this new series. Off season is the time for reflection and learning, and this is perfect. Looking forward to what you have planned. On this first episode, I couldn't agree more on the 7'6" LEMXHF. 2024 was the year of the gliders and jerkbaits for me, and that rod is my new favorite, by a lot actually. I have mine paired with a Tranx 301 high speed reel. Light and well-balanced, and I can make the lures dance so effectively. Thanks again for the educational videos!

Chas - great episode and I am looking forward to the next 6 episodes! Two questions. First, for reels the default in the discussion was baitcasting reels, but what about the higher capacity spinning reels? Also, for rods similarly the default was baitcasting rods, but what about longer spinning rods. As an example, I regularly use a 8'6" salmon steelhead heavy/fast spinning rod for large northern pike fishing and they perform very well. Perhaps, in one of the future episodes you can briefly touch on the reel type and associated rods (bait casting equipment versus spinning equipment). Thanks again. Andy

I've caught late season muskies trolling crankbaits in the 3 to 5 mph range. You don't have to troll dead slow to catch them. Check your lure speed control and experiment with it. Even with cold water temperature, faster lure speed can still trigger a reaction strike.
@MuskyMastery17 күн бұрын
@@thelonesomefisherman7425 I agree dude. 💯! There are definitely no “absolutes” when it comes to musky fishing. You can def bump the speed up in the fall as well.
@thelonesomefisherman742517 күн бұрын
@MuskyMastery Yeah, but try and convince other fishermen that there are no absolutes in fishing is like pulling teeth without novocaine. Fishing is tough, you say? Oh! Well, we have to downsize, go slower, and finesse the fish into biting. They seldom consider the possibility of upsizing, going faster, and forcing a strike rather than trying to get a bite. Walleye fishermen are some of the most stubborn about this.

Great video Chas. I also rip the lures often while trolling to remove debris but also to speed up and then stop the lure to trigger a strike from fish following the bait. Playing around with the lure while trolling increases your catches eventually, though it doesn’t always work obviously

@MuskyMasteryАй бұрын
Thanks Joe! Yes, that is to make sure there is no clinging debris on the lure (weeds, leaves etc.) and it can also trigger strikes because of the change of speed / erratic nature of the lure movement!

My cousins boat has a 2d sonar mounted on the dash up front with the probe on the back left (opposite corner). If I'm planning to jig, is it worth it to sit at the back in the probe zone and try to see to the front or should I just jig anywhere and let it tell me if there's big fish around (it has a mode where it just beeps when there's a fish over some size).
@MuskyMasteryАй бұрын
@@kylesaric3652 Kyle, I have successfully jigged larger lures like Bondy Baits and Fuzzy’s on 2D sonar in the rear of the boat under the ducer. Otherwise, I’d say it is good to just fish and let your jig inform you of predators. You can also mix in a crankbait off the bow to “perform the role” of a FFS to a certain extent for structure location.
