The prices are so high because the bike companies aren't making profit. The bike industry is struggleing right now. If everyone bought chinese frames, the bike industry would collapse, with most bike brands going bankrupt. In that case, the only remaining option would be chinese factories with dodgy materials and craftmanship, not to mention that the evolution of mountain bikes would stop, because the chinese manufacturers were almost always copying other bike brands.
@thewreckingball1150 Жыл бұрын
@@easpoorts the prices always rice because of central bankers printing more money. As an engineer my career as always been focused on improving efficiency of business profits. The sheer scale of R&D, QA/QC, pro rider experience/input, and design expertise that reputable manufacturers put into their bikes should not be underestimated. The fact that you not only seem to think that comparable quality is achievable with this mass-produced Chinese assembly line crap, but also appear stoic enough to make a video to convince others that that is the case, is incredibly alarming to any seasoned MTB rider.

Funny thing is, the actual specialized frames was possibly made in the same factory, or the factory got ahold of a frame/similar mold and the factory was just selling its surplus/rebrand in order to get around patent laws, either way both frames were made the same way, maybe with different ingredients or less safety testing, but same process, same factory worker, 10 frames made in the hour, same conveyer belt. It doesn't cost the company thousands of dollars a frame, so it shouldn't cost us thousands as well

During Covid I assembled a "Chinese assembly line crap' gravel bike. A number of the gravel events I have done since with this bike have included climbing mtb trails of ski hills then descending boulder laden trails; not for the faint of heart on any bike let alone ones without suspension. My frame and components continue to respond perfectly 3 yrs in. You sir, have been wholly hoodwinked into believing the marketing hype. the reason brand bikes are expensive is because they're doing all the developement, engineering and innovation. If everyone was just copying other peoples homeworks we'd still be riding those 90s road bikes with thicker tires and calling them Mountainbikes. That being said the big brands somewhat do overprice their stuff I feel like. There are genuinely good companies out there making innovative products for fair prices. Support your brands guys or we'll never get better.
@thewreckingball1150 Жыл бұрын
I am conflicted with this as well but here is my take: 1. Because central bakes print money and devalue our currency, big companies have to look to ways to find cheaper work to keep up with inflation. This led to outsourcing manufacturering, then they often look to outsource the engineering as well. At that point bike companies just become marketing firms. 2. I think stealing intellectual property is wrong and I am with you however I am not sure that is what’s going on. I think bike companies are selling open mold frames. In that case I am all for it. Competition drives cheaper prices and in an ever more expensive world I appreciate cheaper prices. Thank you for you comment!
@dermax_hd Жыл бұрын
@@thewreckingball1150 I am with you on the competition part. Brands like Shimano havent been doing new stuff in years until Sram came around and really kicked off the 1x11/12/13 trend now and really forced Shimano to do something new. Actual Brands like ZRace (from what I can tell) that actually design, engineer and manufactur their own original parts are absolutely amazing. The builds were extremely smooth since everything was perfect. Also the custom paint job and the visible carbon layering look awesome. At first i just thought i give it a shot. If it was shit, i would have used it for indoor training. But i was pleasantly surprised and i have full confidence in quality. So much that i smashed it down on numerous high speed decents in the Alps. I would also like to mention that i was able to order the integrated stem and handlebar to my exact wishes. I simply asked for it and the seller just said: we make it for you, no problem. I just ordered a medium. Planning to put a Manitou Mara on it. Could the harshness be the sid lux xc tune? It seems like this frame is identical to the epic evo.
@thewreckingball1150 Жыл бұрын
So the harshness is from the shock but that was because I could only find the tune for the epic evo. So it will work fine if you use the epic shock tune. Unfortunately it isn't identical to the epic evo, It is the epic there is a really detailed post on a forum called Chinertown. Just give that a google and it will explain everything.
@blindspotclinic Жыл бұрын
@@thewreckingball1150 got it, it is the non evo epic linkage, 2:1 vs 3:1 evo. The forum also discussed the chain stays being shorter but on the frame I ordered, same 438mm chain stay length as evo. So thinking of running longer stroke shock.190x50

Interesting video i think theres a lot of potential for chinese parts but i would be a bit scared to ride that frame tbh. Luckily for me i got an epic evo comp for about a grand more than your build Yes its expensive but as an xc racer i js cant rock up on chinese parts. Plus theres a lot of weight i can take down in the future by getting carbon wheels, cranks and a cockpit. Its also good to support your local bikeshops if you have the means. But yea sick ride gang.

I race xc and smoke dudes on bikes 3 times as much. Why does being an xc racer change that? Like are you self conscious or worried about the parts
@sugxi Жыл бұрын
@@thewreckingball1150 a bit of both. I'm 18 so yeah ig I'm a bit self conscious about the parts even the comp with gx axs on it makes me feel broke when all my mates are on like 12 grand bikes. And the races mean a lot to me because I have to prove I can do well in the sport starting kinda late so i don't want to take a risk on something that might be lighter but have reliability issues and possibly break in a race. Or have an issue where I need to get a replacement and have to do a lot of work to get that sorted. But yeah I totally agree you don't need the most blinged out bike to shred. I do well in races even on the 26-27lb comp build.

So “misuse” of this bike is off-road riding or cyclocross? 😂 While that sounds stupid for a full suspension bike, it also gives you an idea of how they would stand behind their product and how confident they are in it. Note the other gem in that warranty: “we will try our best to avoid any quality problem”.

@@thewreckingball1150 nah! Just super hesitant when it comes to stuff manufactured in China. In my exp you get what you pay for.
@meteormedia7021 Жыл бұрын
I know, cheap chinese frames look appealing on paper, but they are bait. You don't pay name brand companies for the bike, you pay them for the warranty thy provide. In case of actual Specialized, you get an unconditional life-time warranty against manufacturing defects. Good luck getting that from some chinese company. Also Specialized bikes are made by Merida, not some random chinese oem.

@@thewreckingball1150 So does yours - only difference is you paid $723.
