I'm a mixed race black person, or you could say biracial lightskin or whatever, but as I was growing up I was just so picked on about my skin color, and I've got to say it was definitely hurtful and mean because my skin color was actually dark for a year since my mom always took me outside to get baked and all. I had made melanin at the time, and I just started from pale skin, all the way to a rich gold brown tone and because of my black face and curly hair, I definitely looked more black than white by far. I slowly faded away from the sun by winter which was obvious, not everyone is going to want to be in the cold for any reason so I was inside most of the time, by then my skin was originally pale again and I just gained my privlage back but also something else, I wasn't actually picked on anymore and it's strange because even though I actually have curly hair, people don't actually think I'm that black which is scientifically proven and it's a fact but still, I'm 50% more black then white but 50% more white then black but because of my lightskin I'm jusy praised. I don't really see it fair for darkskins.

I hear you, I’ve related in a different way. I’m mixed as well, my mother is white/Irish and my dad, African American. I get starred at more and feel more disrespected and uncomfortable and it really sucks realizing this tbh and when I’m not natural/wearing braids I’m the same, respected and what not. I experienced two different worlds as well.

yes, i feel like we are looked upon as more beautiful(which is not true) than dark skinned women but we do not have it EASIER. we are still black. if i go out to a place with a lot of white people, im gonna feel just as awkward as a dark skinned woman. in fact, if anything light skinned people are getting more hate because people think we are weak, or over rated or extra or cocky, and all that stuff. im not saying we have it worse but we do still have it pretty bad.

Wow…It starts with casting directors, advertisers, media house owners … Joan, well spoken! Maybe we need to explore who owns these media houses and whats their agenda as they promote one skin tone over another. Do we have a choice over what we want to consume as viewers? Can we boycott stuff to make a statement? White people cannot love us any more than we love ourselves, so please! Let’s not expect they’ll fix colorism. Society constantly moves the dial on what’s acceptable depending on what’s trending. It’s just so schizophrenic. Calls for one to have the measure of value to be within or intrinsic, the love for self has to remain constant.
