Fun fact: The shooting location at Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia was chosen because of its rustic atmosphere/appearance. When the locals found out a movie was going to be filmed there, they decided to spend $50,000 to have the mine painted and cleaned. This diminished the reason why the area was chosen for shooting in the first place, so $75,000 of the film's budget had to be used to return the mine to its original state for shooting.

@ppiorkowski1502 Жыл бұрын
@bala4fa to be honest I think the movie would have just been forgotten if it wasn't for this song. For me anyway. I was young when I watched this but I was ahead of my time when it came to music. To me a movie score and end credits song (and for some a good opening song) can really make or break a film. Obviously this is mainly in the case for more dramatic films but there are a few horrors that fit into this category as well. Besides this the original Prom Night was a good one as well. But Prom Night was more of a tragedy than horror movie in my opinion. Very sad and emotional ending which is out of place for a horror movie. Along with a killer that you feel extremely sympathetic towards.

@NitPickz6 жыл бұрын
Me too. I mean, how often do you see a killer miner? Also, I just had this idea that they could have made a prequel of sorts showing what exactly happened to Harry Warden during the years between the first 2 murders and the film's events. Also, I watched the remake recently. It's an ok film, but that's mostly thanks to the gore. But, overall, I don't like it. Like, it has some of the worst characters I've ever seen in a horror movie. But at least Harry was a little more in action. And, after watching it, I thought that "What if Harry Warden had a son of his own?" Like, the son could either be the killer or the protagonist just trying to move on from what his father did. Sound like a good idea to anyone?
@RunawayTrain25025 жыл бұрын
A movie about Harry Warden's life sounds like an awesome idea. Part a sort of "Saw"setup (who's gonna die to keep all the others alive while they are trapped in the mine. and part Warden being driven insane by the PTSD, Survivours guilt and anger for his superiours that got him trapped in the first place...

+Matthew St Vincent Love your profile pic man 👍
@MovieManOfPetersham7 жыл бұрын
Iron Priest Cheers. I love John Carpenter's "The Thing" (1982) so much. It managed to be both intense while still being pretty damn gory and is one of the only films to do that. It had superb practical effects and great acting especially from Kurt Russell and Keith David. I do really enjoy the prequel released in 2011 a lot but I think that probably the only flaw is the CGI over practical effects. As a movie though, the 2011 film really isn't bad by any means, it had great acting all round, good pacing, it was intense, the sound was incredible and it still had a bit of atmosphere albeit not as much as the 1982 John Carpenter film.
@ironpriest75867 жыл бұрын
Matthew St Vincent I agree. For what it was, I thought the prequel was decent. The way they interact and discover ways to determine the team members' humanity was well done. I definitely prefer practical effects to CGI, which Carpenter's film masterfully incorporated. I would also say that his film better captured an overwhelming sense of paranoia and tension. Carpenter's Thing is without a doubt one of my favorite films ever.
@MovieManOfPetersham7 жыл бұрын
Iron Priest Yeah and it takes a talented director to pull of a film that is both gory and super intense. As a screenwriter I have looking at "The Thing" (1982) for inspiration on the whole intense aspect. I'm currently writing a two hour drama/horror film called "The Effects" and it's going to be extremely character driven and I'm sure 85% of horror fans will love it. It's "I Spit on Your Grave" meets "Friday the 13th" meets "Scream" meets "American History X". It's very dark, gritty and realistic. It's got themes revolving around rape, racism and betrayal. I'm really trying to create something unique and really engaging before I try making throwback horror films (e.g. "Hatchet"). I actually have three great and pretty well known actors who are interested in it and I am speaking to a producer in two weeks. "The Thing" (1982)is my inspiration for how to execute intensity in a film and I'm using "The Hills Have Eyes" (2006) as inspiration for brutal and disturbing violence.
@ironpriest75867 жыл бұрын
Wow, very nice. I hope things go well with it! While definitely not as professional as what you're doing, some friends and I made a horror film a few years back revolving around a detective with amnesia, who's following a wanted murderer. There's a monster pursuing him, but we followed the rule that you wouldn't see the monster very much; we went for "what you don't see can be scarier than what you do."
@keaton_jb_meme_central Жыл бұрын
What I love about Harry is he’s not supernatural (aside from some above average strength and durability) but he’s not like Jason and Michael, he’s not immortal, he’s not a demon, he’s just a guy who wanted revenge against the ones who were responsible for when he and his other fellow miners were trapped in the cave. As I said, he’s not supernatural in anyway but this song perfectly describes the fear this town has for the killer, all it takes is a guy with a weapon filled with rage to strike fear into the hearts of an entire community.
@LJMaxDaKilla2007Z7 ай бұрын
Yeah, I like supernatural slasher like Michael and Jason, but I like non-supernatural slashers like Harry Warden much better since its more realistic which makes it a lot scarier imo. Not to mention Harry’s design is SO BADASS! Like the mining suit, the pickaxe and especially THE GAS MASK! A slasher with a gas mask is something so random yet so awesome at the same time.

Once upon a time On a sad Valentine In a place known as Henniger Mine A legend began Every woman and man Would always remember the time. Great plot for this tragically underseen slasher. Nova Scotia scenery expertly used. Thanks for the theme song upload! I remember this being in my head for weeks after first viewing. Cool story, I sat next to a guy at a small diner in the AZ desert near the northern border in 1995, and he told me he was an extra in this movie and still has his costume from the film. I looked him up in the credits, and he was listed as "Fat Miner." There's like 10 minutes cut from original (MPAA cried too gory), but the special edition 2009 has a few minutes put back.

One of the best slashers 👌

I guess nothing says I love you like a pick axe to the face! I had almost forgotten about this slasher gem until I recently played Until Dawn, which contains several references to My Bloody Valentine. I haven't watched it in ages but it's definitely up there among my personal favorite slasher movies. Its time to revisit the horror from long time ago!

It’s crazy that I’ve seen this movie as a kid on cable but never heard this song till years later, now I always stay for the end credits to movies. And No one will know as the years come and go… of the horror from long time ago

The song doesn't actually describe what the legend is, it just says how people feel about it.

Everyone spent the 14th in quiet regret. In this little town when 14th comes round there is silence and fear in the air. Remember the morn when the legend was born all the shock and horror was there...

This movie and Sleepaway camp had some fucking awesome ending themes really left an impression on me especially now that I’ve recently got around to watching them again since I was a kid! They don’t make em like they used to! If anyone could guide me to some more classy and or cheesy 80’s flicks send em my way!

Too bad this song wasn't included in the 2009 remake, it would have been the saving grace to that god awful remake.

Remakes can't ever capture the creepiness the old 70's and 80's movies had and I don't know why
