another young and new e36 owner… welcome to the club man. my 328is was my first car a couple years ago, and in my experience it has been the absolute most fun and forgiving experience of ownership i could have ever asked for. i’ve met amazing friends, learned so much about cars, and have grown to appreciate e36’s more than an s chassis which was my favorite car for multiple years. people have their reasons for not liking an e36, but fail to forget that the youngest models are 25 years old at this point. they’re old and need maintenance like any other car. once you take replacing everything(cooling system, bushings, suspension components, subframe reinforcements), you will understand why so many people fall in love with these cars. i also bought my car sight unseen, as an auto, with 207k and a CEL, but of course i was quite lucky. i’ve also since turned mine into a race/drift car. i’m glad people are starting to recognize how good they are. take care of that thing!

13 year owner of E36 M3/4/5 and recently picked up a techno violet E36 coupe. Car has been amazingly reliable and easy to work on. There’s great aftermarket support for this platform and the car is so easy to work on. I love this platform so much I have 2 of them. The trunk harness is a non-issue. There’s 2 brackets on the hinge that keep it out of the way. Get some clips. Headliner cost me $100 to fix. Clutch was $350. Brakes $300. Oil changes $75.

I feel your pain. I bought an auto 97 M3 (with the intention to convert it). Before I could procure all of the parts for the swap, the auto trans takes a shit - stays in 3rd. After the swap, fan blade explodes and takes out the radiator. After the electric fan conversion and new rad, parking brake shoe springs blow apart within the rotors while driving. After replacing all of that, vanos takes a shit. After rebuilding the vanos unit, I fried the battery with a loose coil pack harness connection. After the battery, the belt tensioner siezes up and shreds the belt. Now im waiting on the belt and tensioner, along with the next thing to break 🫠🤑

What makes a B52 reliable? Hey @Kevin Ta, in you video you mentioned that" the M52- in my 328 is thee most reliable BMW motors". I have been looking to buy a 90's 3 series as a daily driver, I hear that the M50 B25 is the most reliable because of it's steel block unlike the m52 with an aluminum block. I am curious what makes the M52 a reliable Bmw engine. Thanks and all the best.
@KevinTa025 ай бұрын
“One of the” most reliable bmw motors. Some 328is’ came with iron blocks as well! In my opinion both M50 and M52 alu block are extremely similar reliability wise when kept OEM or FBO (and of course taken care of when it comes to cooling.) As my daily driver the farthest I would push it is FBO. Once it comes to boosting then I hear M50’s are slightly more boost friendly but M52’s are still a great option. However, once you start adding boost to any motor then you enter no man’s land when it comes to reliability!

Hi, what is your opinion about the M50 2.0 6 cylinder motor for e36? (and if it has vanos, single vanos, how bad is that?)
@KevinTa025 ай бұрын
M50’s seem great for boost and reliable for daily driving if kept stock (and all E36’s have single vanos.) Doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing! (Double vanos came out with e46’s.) Whether it’s single or double everyone has to eventually do vanos maintenance.
@kemeron57595 ай бұрын
@@KevinTa02 But i saw other yt videos about e36 and people selling their e36 with M50B20 engine and it has no vanos, so i guess 2.0 6 cylinder has 2 variations? with single vanos and non-vanos?
@KevinTa025 ай бұрын
@@kemeron5759 Oh sorry I misunderstood! Yes E36 m50’s had a vanos and non vanos version. I would imagine non vanos would be better for forced induction builds but i’m sure single vanos would handle it well too (just probably not as high hp numbers.)
