Hello all. Thank you for watching the video and for all of your comments. I will answer some questions below but, I wanted to make a list of all the parts I have with links to the manufacturers so you all can look for yourself. Also, these are all personal preference items and not the only choices out there. Many manufacturers make good parts and it really comes down to how you ride and how you want to set up your bike. Altrider - Headlight guard, upper and lower crash bars, skid plate, kickstand switch guard, rear rack Touratech - Helmet, Mirrors, Dual USB outlet (replaces BMW 12 volt outlet) Quad Lock - Phone Mount Battery Tender - SAE directly wired to the battery, Also the SAE to USB adapter Machine Art Moto - Cylinder Head Covers Black Dog Cycle Works - Foot pegs Woody's Wheel Works - Wheels Mosko Moto - Luggage Klim - Outrider Pants, Marrakesh Jacket Potbelly - Recent injury, intermittent laziness (🙂), food/beer... haha

All good points, except the fuel tank one. If the weight of the fuel is upsetting in the technical riding, just put less fuel in it. No need to fill it to the neck all the time, but it's nice to have the extra range when need it.

For my GS, I found a super secret trick/ life hack that hardly anyone seems to know about. It saves a ton of weight and gives way better fuel mileage than a GSA. I bought the F800GS. I'm in my second now. Love the old ones that no one seems to care about. Prices are way better than the R12xxGStarbucks, way lighter and are rather nimble on the pavement. It'll keep up with the locals in the twisties on their naked twins!

I went from a f800gs to the R1250GSA and I personally think the 800 was harder to control and handle. Never done the standard GS I wanted all the protection and not to carry a gas tank so research of the cost in protection and labor I thought I’d trained hard and adapted to the GSA. Always loved your videos and will continue to get the best from it, safe riding!

great comparison Dusty...I'm on my 4th GS but first GSA. I do miss the seat height and weight of the Std but love the comfort and fuel capacity of the GSA for sport touring. If i do more ADV riding in the future I'll be looking to add a smaller/lighter bike.

Totally agree and understand the reasons for the switch. However, did you consider going to a smaller, lighter bike? Like an F850GS, KTM 890, Tenere 700, etc? I think most people are learning smaller is more fun, lighter and easier to manage offroad. I love the big GS and have owned a few of them, but smaller bikes are where it's at for me going forward.

But if you are saying the DR650 is to heavy for single track... this can only mean one thing.... you skills are yet to be developed young patawan... and that is ok. We all learn at different rates. But for you to say that the ~ 350pound DR650 is too heavy for single track.... would be like saying small women can not ride a BIG BMW GS! One major point is: One person might have to ride highway for hundreds of miles to get to single track land. Another might drive the m/c and take it off of a trailer. Makes tons of sense. I rode a 1200 2018 GSA from Top to bottom of South America. I'm 5'9" and have low suspension because I need it. I would never go with a GS on long trips or you will be super sorry when your out of gas in the middle of nowhere. I then took a 2019 F850 GSA from Miami to Thailand -- 25,000 miles, 6 months, 17 countries and without the GSA bigger gas tank -- no chance in the middle of Kazakhstan that you can survive. So I get your point and agree 100% -- and its why I got the F850GSA and would never go on a long trip with a 1200/1250 over off-road again. I give up some comfort but I get BMW the absolute leader in world travel -- lighter bike, solid construction almost bomb proof with the F850.

Thanks for your mods, Dusty. Like you I like large and wide footpegs. Most of the riding is done standing up anyway. That's the only thing I have to change on my old Honda Transalp 600 PD06. It's the last bike with original footpegs (rubber off). But they are too small for long rides - I had to learn on ACT Pyrenees over the last two weeks. I like the HardRock S3 on my Beta Alp 200 and try to fit my spare set on the Transalp. Cheers from Nürnberg/Germany, Günter (still Bavaria, but no Octoberfest and better beer)

Really like all of these points, with the exception of the lever mod. Sure, it's "free", but there's a reason levers have that ball end on them - it's also a roadworthy item where I live, and if you ever try to ride in a sanctioned motorbike event it will not pass safety scrutineering. Personally, I prefer proper short levers, as the ball end stops my finger slipping off the end too.

upper crash guards are pretty worthless. i've crashed a ton on the gs and never saw the benefit of the upper crash guards. i used have them on my first gslc and removed them after several crashes and that they didn't really help except for add extra weight and make it more challenging to work on motorcycle.

Fair, Depends on how often you tip over :) I’m so thankful for my upper bars on my 1250gs hp. I keep thinking it’s a 450 and dumping it upside down on the hills :) maybe I should take more classes with Dusty!

For those who like adventure like you i much more recommend Africa Tein or 700 Tenere, they feel way lighter are more nimble. Simply more fun. Dumped GSes long time ago
