When you've been in the hobby for a while you kind of get used to seeing the same couple titles get mentioned by every reviewer. I've always admired how Jon stays true to his own tastes rather than simply chasing the hotness and gives some love to some underrated and less-talked-about titles. One of my most trusted reviewers in the business tbh

The thing I love about party games is that even people who have bad experiences with boardgames, want to give it a go sometimes. We played herd mentality with my side of the family and after a few rounds my dad shouted: "I'm actually good at this game!" Which was so fun :) (the reason he was good at it is because he is so predictable we started writing down the answer we thought he would write just to get a point 😂)

I've noticed you have quite a few more party games than any other types... Do you prefer them over strategy games yourself, or are they just more convenient to please any guest? Loved the "Big Egos" and "Flat Shelf Society", I'm definitely stealing those 🤣 Any advice for a brand new Board Game Channel? The only names for the shelf I could come up with were unfortunately based on other games. When monopoly turns to murder (parody of when missing turns to murder) Murder on the colt express (parody of murder on the orient express) I also love how genuinely irate you get about the couples therapy shelf. You've genuinely never been more relatable. This is my new favourite video. Edit: I thought I was done, but now I'm going to get soppy. Genuinely I want to thank you. It seems obscene but you are responsible for my newfound enjoyment of the hobby. The full list of games I got on your recommendation is long, but I'll give it anyway. Chinatown Carcassonne Hunters and Gatherers Cascadia Mysterium High Society Parks Patchwork Air Land and Sea (the animals version) Fungi (my favourite game) Vaalbara Qwinto 6 Nimmt Sea salt and paper (I might have to take back what I said about fungi. No wait, I won't. Oh screw it, they're joint first.) All in all, I have more games in my collection on your recommendation than otherwise, and so genuinely, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for opening my eyes to this world. As silly as it sounds, games are important to me and you are the reason I know about them. Also the wallet is a little lighter so screw you at the same time. 🤣

Hey John, long time watcher and love all of your videos and content. When you get a moment, a few quick questions on similar games, given my limited budget: - I see you own both Decrypto and Phantom Ink. I only own Decrypto, is Phantom Ink different enough from Decrypto to warrant a purchase? They seem very similar. - Same question on Coloretto and Triqueta. They look like almost exactly the same game (I already own Zooloretto and Coloretto). - Last is Pyramid of Penqueen and Nuns on the Run. All of these games seem very similar to each other based on what I’ve seen, but I’m interested in all of them or own some of them already (and love them). Is it worth tracking down the ones I don’t own that seem so similar?

Great video! I wrote some down on my "to check out" list. (I'm still far from culling :O) King&Assassins could go flat on that shelf, and Lost Cities, Star Wars and Orion can lay on top. Yes it would be an anomaly, but Secret Hitler sticks out as well

@@actualol have you tried the 2023 version of big boss? Not saying that you would like it or not but comparatively to the old version the new rules have a removed some luck for sure. Like instead of random draws you have a market of cards to choose from. Idk it's def still down to if someone wants to hold onto a card to keep a merger from happening they can but we have found that there is def strategies to adapt to whatever happens in the game. I like adaptive strategy in games though. ☺️

9:36 The reason such games (Herd Mentality, Dixit) are not for me is that I usually play with the same group of people so when I'm asked the same question, I will now know what to answer to win. Also, if I play with my wife + a new person, I'll always have an advantage because I know what my wife will answer and the new person won't.

Best team party game for my money is a supply of cheap blank cards to make your own Monikers deck. The boxed game is fine but there’s something magical about having a deck full of in jokes for the people who happen to be there at the time.

Hi, thanks for the video, I found some nice recommendations. I noticed that most of your collection is Euro and Euro-like games, and I haven't seen Ameri. This question has probably been asked before, but I'm new to this channel, so I'll ask. What do you think about large American campaign titles, such as Tainted Grail, Kingdom Death: Monster, Aeon Trespass or Etherfields?
@actualol
@actualol Ай бұрын
I disagree that my collection is Euro games, in fact a lover of Euro games would be quite disappointed in my collection. And I have plenty of Ameri- games, such as Spartacus, Sons of Anarchy, Game of Thrones, New Angeles, Battlestar Galactica, This War of Mine. I don't really like campaign games, I prefer games that start and finish in one setting. Plus I don't really care for the dark fantasy theme of many of them.
@Mindless_Lunatic
@Mindless_Lunatic Ай бұрын
@@actualol Right, that was an oversimplification on my part, I meant that a lot of them were Euro. Personally, I love big campaigns that stay on my table for several weeks, but to each their own I guess. Thanks for the answer :D
