As I always say: Never take words on face value in business or in the workplace. If it's not written in a contract, it won't happen. Don't ever do things on an empty promise of more. Your performance thus far should be enough for them to promote, give a raise, give opportunities to. Talk is cheap!

Neil, you are worth alot more than how that owner is treating you. Don't be afraid to look for better opportunities and even it pays little less, you should move on and find a better employer. I used to make 120k in a small toxic company under extremely toxic and abusive owner, and i moved on to work at Carmax and got paid 32k a year and i have never been happier than ever. MONEY never makes you happy. it's just a tool. As you find a better employer that respects you and helps you to grow, you will find opportunities. Good luck.
