We once had friends who could never get dinner on the table at a reasonable hour; finally, we started stopping on the way to eat just to get by with the cocktails until dinner was FINALLY served. I can totally relate to Phillip. I often attempt multiple new dishes at once and dinner is inevitably hours late and I feel so exhausted at the end, I just want to go to bed. Sometimes you need a break for a few days, but keep at it Phillip! I think you'll hone your skills and enjoy being in the kitchen.

Stay focused, and pay attention to what more experienced cooks are doing, you have a huge advantage there with excellent cooks from whom to learn. Here in Canada there is a beautiful tree, Japanese lilac (Syringa reticulata). The blooms lasts much longer and the fragrance is wonderful. Something to consider...

I'm a recovering perfectionist too and it gets easier the more you let the little things go and look at the bigger picture -- you made a wonderful homemade dinner for your friends and no one went hungry!
