My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We see over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

A few years ago, we had purchased a refrigerator from Best Buy. As they were delivering it, I looked at the refrigerator and the front door was smashed, the side was all scratched up. I told them I was refusing delivery. They kept telling me I had to take it and then file a complaint. We went round and round for 30 minutes and they finally loaded it back on the truck. It took multiple phone calls and another month before we got a refrigerator delivered. Last item we ever bought from Best Buy.

Mildly similar. When we bought a new house in 2007, it was coming with white colored appliances. I asked our agent if I could request a change to stainless. She talked to the seller who said they could do that for something like $400 and so we agreed. The first day we moved in, of course we had no refrigerator so we ate out. But that same day, I called and purchased a stainless refrigerator from one of the big stores, Home Depot, Lowes or something like that. I wasn't home when they came, but my wife was and I told her to look it over very well before they tried to plug it in. The blue colored protective wrap they have on those had a couple of tears, so I told her to have them peel it off. It had scratches, so I told her to tell them to take that one back and bring us a flawless one. They did. But we're talking about delivery employees for that company, not UPS or FedEx or any other. I burned a few bridges with people during that time. No regrets.

I've had boxes and other large items absolutely mangled by Lowe's own people. The good thing about having it sent to the store is you make 'em unpack it there and if it's all jacked up there's no question it's on them. No dealing with the carrier etc.

Fluid film is supposed to be lanolin based. Extracted from sheeps wool. Lanolin was traditionally used by machinists for their micrometers and other tools as well because it was dimensionally insignificant...meaning it wouldn't throw off the calibration of their tools. Anyway, I don't think it has any rust removing properties per se, maybe im wrong but I think it's more of a rust preventitive since it's clingly and molecularly small to soak into pores. So what I'm getting at is remove the rust first then apply the fluid film. A soak in evaporust first would be ideal. No problem doing it the way you did though. Just another way to skin that cat.

I feel for you. This is such a crushing moment. My wife and I are avid sewers. We had both waited decades to be able to afford a designer sewing room, that included nearly $10,000 worth of custom cabinets, cutting tables. storage etc. We had waited months to have them all built, and delivered by Fed Ex. The cabinet company took pictures of the pallets showing pristine boxes, even they had little triangles on top to keep them from stacking the pallets. The day came, and FedEx shows up with them stacked, boxes crushed and a crew of people to unbox and carry them in. The boxes were all damaged, and opening them showed every single piece destroyed. My wife broke down and cried. The delivery crew just laughed about it. We have spent a better part of a year going back and forth with the factory getting replacement parts and installing them as best we could. But the fun is all gone, replaced by hours of labor putting things together. It was heartbreaking, and the callous actions by the delivery workers just made it all worse. I will NEVER use FedEx again. EVER!

A company I worked for shipped out a custom built aircraft engine. It arrived at the customer's house on Christmas Eve. He opened the crate and the engine looked like it had been dropped out of the truck and then bounced down the road for a ways at speed. The crate it arrived in was new and NOT the one it was sent out in. The terrible part is our CFO checked the wrong insurance box so they got reimbursed by the pound, not the actual value. I have more similar stories but that was the worst.

While there is no question that FedEx mishandled the boxes, Craftsman certainly didn't help by using very sub-par boxes and packing instead of something that would have allowed a large bulky item like a toolbox to withstand some bumps and bruises. In my opinion, that packaging was sufficient in cases where it would be palletized and shipped from Craftsman to a Lowes warehouse, and then from the Lowes warehouse to a store. In the first case it would be palletized and be ok, and in the second case, it would be Lowes loaders and drivers that would handle it who would lose their jobs if they habitually damaged freight. The problem occurs when the warehouses give these minimally packaged items to a third party shipper like FedEx...those things are not packaged well enough to survive that environment. My solution has been to use the "ship to store" option and have myself do the "last mile" delivery. Things usually work out that way because everyone who handles it has a vested interested in handling the item in a manner appropriate to it's packaging.

Fed ex is very bad at delivering large or heavy items. Most delivery drivers cannot manage those items. Just getti.g pet food delivery results in many denied cans. Used different types of corrosion prevention compounds (we called it CPC in the Navy), one type in a spray can was for cannon plugs (electrical connectors) and another called grade 4 which was like molasses and applied with a small acid brush was used to touch up bare metal, mostly fasteners and aircraft skin rivet heads. They do an outstanding job protecting metals in the harsh ocean enviroment, so when I saw Fluid film I immediately picked a can up. I have a boat winch attached to a fence 4 x 4 to raise and lower a huge Staghorn plant suspended from an Oak tree branch, I sprayed the entire winch down with Fluid Film and in 4 years have not seen any corrosion on it, excellent product.

I'm not sure why I'm pulled by myself to stay in this conversation, but as a former UPS package driver, we know more than you realize about what's in packages. I'm not saying we know exactly what it is, but we see (or in my case, saw) the same things over and over and over, day after day, week after week, etc. So if I bring a floppy package from JC Penney to your porch and toss it, you can bet I am certain it's not Austrian crystal. But even still, we're not talking about zinging someone's package 30 feet onto their porch. I can't speak for anything FedEx does, except what used to be called the Ground side; their subcontracted (doubly so) tractor trailer drivers are really, really good at rolling trailers over on the interstate. Not sure what kind of school they went to, to learn that, because at UPS we didn't get such training.

I have a 2010 F250. Pick up that they have been putting fluid film on for the last 3 years and the stuff is amazing. Even a year later, when you get under the truck to do something. You get this stuff all over you. But it worked amazing for not just the salt. But all the chemicals that they spray on the roads, which are worse. Than salt love the stuff.

When you mail your marijuana; use extra tape!! I worked the front counter for many years and some of the crappy prepared boxes people would bring in to mail was amazing. @@funnyfarm5555 As a customer, I got to see USPS service counter clerks have to painfully explain multiple times to customer that just because 90% of the item(s) fit in the box, you still have to be able to close and tape the box shut. And no, we don't supply tape; you can buy a roll from us. And no, you can't tie the box shut. As far as the fluidfilm goes I drive a 2003 GMC Sonoma I bought new. Several years ago at the bottom behind the doors the paint started to bubble. That usually means there is rust coming from the inside. I bought a gallon of this and sprayed most of the underneath making sure to get up into the cavity behind the bubbling. It is still surviving with no break through. The aroma is lanolin from sheep's wool I understand.

I'm not trying to defend Fed-Ex, but those tool boxes were not packaged to withstand shipping. I've had some bad experiences like this too, and time after time it was just as much the fault of the shipper. Some of the people working in these shipping departments just simply don't have a clue what they're doing. And then there are the dock workers at the trucking companies who are slamming and jamming things around with a tow motor. It's sad.

Was told don't worry the packaging was UPS approved and the damaged ones were Being sent to a UPS warehouse for reselling damaged shipments and UPS was paying for replacements along with shipping. Took 10 before I finally got 3 good ones. I worked for Advance Auto Parts up here in PA, we sold Fluid Film in 5 gal. containers that could be sprayed long the under chassis of any vehicle. But, it doesn't last like straight autobody under coating. You have to re-apply it every 4-6 months. Auto Body Shops here use it like crazy as a replacement for WD40, which as we all know is a water displacement spray. I use it for my fishing lures. But, nothing beats a good under coating. Another good use of Fluid Film is spray it on snow shovels, snow blower chutes and augers and tines. It keeps the snow from sticking to the metal. Re-apply as needed.

We have been without a kitchen stove for about three months. We finally ordered a new one after failing to repair the old one and had to wait three weeks for it to come. When it was delivered by the company, they brought it downstairs (we live in a basement), basically dropping the stove on every step. By the time they got to the kitchen, it had a big dent in the side. The driver admitted they just did it coming down the stairs. So, I said, take it back. I'm not paying that much for a dented stove and who knows what else was damaged inside. We're still without a stove! I used to work for a guns and ammo wholesale supplier. UPS once delivered some guns and the wood stock on a rifle was completely busted in half! Looked like it was used for a crowbar! I feel your pain. That's terrible to have damage on all three of them!

When I got home I thought I better inspect it cause I didn’t want any surprises on the day I took the old tub out and installed the whirlpool. When I opened the box and removed the first piece of packaging insulation it didn’t want to pull out. Somebody hit at with a fork truck fork, through the box and through the side of the tub. Turned around and went back to get a different one.Had to wait 3 weeks for a new one to be shipped. When I went to picked it up, I had them open the box and inspect before I let them load it in my truck. Now I inspect everything before it leaves the store.

I finally decided to get some of those large red, stackable Craftsman toolboxes, similar to yours, last year. The floor display boxes were pretty messed up (like yours), so I requested that the sealed, boxed up tool cabinets be opened before I paid for them. It caused them a lot of trouble, but I was insistent. The never-opened boxes were opened by Lowe's employees, and the cabinets were crushed and bent like yours (every box). I left the store disappointed, and drove 30 miles north to another Lowe's location. We opened the sealed boxes there, and they were in pristine condition (success!). It appears that a lot of damage is occurring before the stores take possession of the Craftsman stock.

Most shipping (trucking) companies are decent, but UPS & FedEX are horrible. After retiring from my marine mechanic job of almost 25 years, I sold off all of my Snap-On boxes and most of my tools. When looking to replace my boxes for home shop use with something that didn't cost as much as a used car, I did a TON of research and I looked at all options in person. And I can honestly say that the US General boxes at Harbor Freight beat the hell out of the Craftsman boxes. And when I picked them up, they were packaged with wooden bracing, foam, and bubble wrap inside of the boxes. Maybe take a look at them, Bre. You might be impressed.

I picked one of those tool chests and tops from Lowes. A great deal on sale. I always take pictures of large or expensive items before I open the box. If there wasn't obvious damage to the box it could have been shipped that way. It is a closeout item and they might be trying to get rid of damaged and returned stock. I usually have large, heavy items shipped to the store. That way I can inspect it before I take possession. Every toilet I've had shipped to my home has been cracked.

Saved them even bringing to the house and me needing to run it back and argue who did the damage. Anything else has just been delivered and that is where the fun begins. And in today's world were people are having so much just sent to their homes it makes me wonder if most are just living with broken items because they do not want to hassle with it. Even had one thing I could tell was broken before it was shipped and the guy just said it was insured, you deal with the post office for your money

I'm a logistics and supply chain analyst and been in the industry for 16yrs. It doesn't matter if it's Federal, UPS, or USPS, large packages are going to get destroyed. The interesting thing with FedEx is that they do not have company owned delivery trucks they have contractors that use their monikers and logos to deliver their packages. These contractors bid for various areas and routes with FedEx corporate. Completely different operation compared to the teamsters Union with company owned package trucks and operations. Small parcel environment is very rough. Everyone's trying to save on highly inflated shipping cost these days by reducing the weight and packaging to a detriment of the box getting damaged. Hopefully you can get the damaged products replaced at no charge!

But they have a thicker formula called Fluid Film Black that says on the can that it can be used as an under coating. So far I've only found one store locally that offers Fluid Film Black but they only have it in normal sized spray cans. I'd like to get it in a gallon so I can treat the underside of my truck.

I drove for UPS and FedEx Ground for a combined twenty years. At least three things were working against you. One: Those boxes are designed for palletized shipping, not to be handled as single item freight. Two: When the linehaul trailers are being loaded, the large items like that go on the bottom, and then about a thousand other packages gets stacked on top. Three: The FedEx auto conveyer system doesn't handle oversize boxes well, so they get pulled off and routed through the facilities on flat cars similar to what you see at the airport. More manual labor means more getting pushed, dumped, and rolled around during the journey. If it were me, I'd have the next set delivered directly to Lowes where you can inspect them before taking possession.
