My name is Nikki and I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer (BRCA1) at the age of 34.
After having a suspicious dent in my breast investigated at my local hospital, I was told that I had triple negative breast cancer (BRCA1). Here's my story of the first few weeks following my diagnosis.

Lost my dad at 13 to cancer. I hate cancer so much. I hate breast cancer even more with it being genetic and going through women in a family. It makes me so mad. It’s always great people. Thank you for sharing your story. It pisses me off they denied you genetic testing because you could have had a mastectomy for prevention. They should be sued! Damn insurance companies and logistics. So annoying. I’m so glad you’re fighting hard and kicking cancers ass! Fighting like a girl! You got this!!!

Listening to your story reminded me so much of my own experience. I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer on march 23, 2013 (at 2:35 pm - I too remember it exactly) just 2 months after my 31st birthday. My surgeon told my mom that she thought I had the BRCA1 gene because I was so young. As it turns out, she was correct. We didn't have a history of cancer in our family so we were a bit shocked but as it turns out, my dads aunt died of ovarian cancer in the early 70's before I was even been. I too had 6 rounds of chemo, then a bilateral mastectomy with instant reconstruction and then 34 round of radiation. My doctors thought since I was young I should just have a lumpectomy but I disagreed and went for the mastectomy. It's a decision I don't regret at all. I also have a sister and she had to be tested as well. Sadly, it turns out she has the gene too ☹️. Cancer stinks but thankfully we both caught ours early. Sending 🙏🏼 Prayers and well wishes!

The absolute worst bit of my whole journey was that initial month, following diagnosis, when you have a thousand questions but the professionals have no answers. However, I promise, once all these tests are done, and your team know what they are dealing with, and you have your treatment plan, you will feel much better. The only advice i can give you...and it's very hard to do...is to try not to worry about things you can't change. Worrying about the results is not going to change the outcome. "Don't meet trouble half way " was my momma's advice - and shes a 4 year TNBC thriver xxxx

Love I was just diagnosed with breast cancer 3days ago and the sad thing us they met my core biopsy samples sit for three weeks before they even tested it! My lump is huge and for months they told me this lump was simply a liquid cysts back in February 2020 and here it is November so now they say it’s solid and it’s cancer 😔 I’m terrified and I’m going to need all the info I can get about dealing with cancer. I go next week to get a second biopsy, ultrasound and blood work at a cancer center about 2hrs away from me so please keep me in your all’s prayers.

Nikki Kimbell I don’t know yet but I’m assuming. I did one biopsy last Wednesday that came back positive for cancer both inside and outside the tumor. This Tuesday I go in for a second biopsy for calcifications that around the breast. I meet with one surgeon Tuesday afternoon and another one on Wednesday. (I live in Houston and we have a cancer hospital here called MD Anderson and that’s were I am going on Wednesday) Neither will have the results from the second biopsy so I’m interested to hear what they say for treatment. My biggest concern is if it will show up 10 years later in the other breast because if it does I’d rather just have them both taken and do chemo once lol.

Well i wish you the best of luck tomorrow afternoon. Once you know the results of the hormone receptors you will be much more informed for your choices. The worst bit of the whole process is that first month, when you know you have cancer but have so little information...once you have your treatment plan it gets SO much easier. Be careful to do your research regarding surgery and not allow fear to dictate...I know here in the UK they wont take healthy tissue unnecessarily. I certainly wouldn't be opting for a double mastectomy were it not for my BRCA1 positive status (which means i have an 85% chance of recurrence). Indeed, there is a lot of research to prove there is no difference in survival rates for women who opt for mastectomy as opposed to lumpectomy.

My niece was just diagnosed. She turned 37 (Nov. 1, 2020) days after finding out. She also has TNBC I think stage 3c. I may be wrong on this as it’s been a lot to take in. She had a port put in 4 days later and chemo the next day. It’s all been so fast. She has her own webpage so we can all stay updated. I’ll keep watching your videos as I have just seen you on the page as I opened KZbin. Hope you’re doing better each day!

Torrente hi 👋🏻 luckily no I didn’t have any node involvement. I was stage 3 because my tumour spread into my chest wall. However I had a complete pathological response to chemo 🙌🏼 and clear margins in my surgery. Very best of luck to your momma. My momma is 6 years clear this month, and I’m 18 months clear - so there is life after cancer 💋❤️

Crazy Funny Hi xx I was diagnosed in aug 2017. I decided to have chemo first so I could have my brca gene mutation testing done. I had chemo September to January and then a prophylactic double mastectomy and reconstruction done in March as I tested positive for BRCA1. Good luck with your chemo. It’s vile but it’s doable. Xx

Sadly, there always has to be someone in the family who has cancer to trigger the testing. In our family it was me (should have happened after moms diagnosis but there's no point getting cross over something i can't change). I'm just happy that now my sisters have been tested and have risk reducing options before they have to face cancer themselves.

How big was your lump and were lymphnodes involved in initial biopsy because i have triple négative with very small lump 17mm and i asked about chemo first but dr said not recommended for my type of cancer . Hé says surgery first and Then chemo . Thanks
@gettingwiggywithit3500
@gettingwiggywithit3500 6 жыл бұрын
My lump was about 25mm by 17mm. I was offered the option to choose when i wanted my chemo - pre or post surgery. Breast cancer directly related to BRCA1 gene mutation often presents as TN, and because of my family history (mom diagnosed at 58, maternal grandmother diagnosed at 34, died at 42) and my age at diagnosis (34) they offered my genetic testing. I decided on neo adjuvant chemo - i wanted to wait for the genetic testing results before i decided on a surgery - My cancer was small-medium size, small enough for a lumpectomy. However, having found out i am BRCA1 positive, my treatment plan has changed slightly in that I am now having a double mastectomy and reconstruction, as my oncologist put my rate of recurrence at 85%. I have surgery on march 13th - they will stage my cancer (thought to be stage 3b) and i'll have a sentiniel node bioposy removing 2-4 lymph nodes. They dont think it has spread, but we'll see. TNBC does respond very very well to chemo. If you are unsure, ask for second opinion. Best of luck with your treatment xx
@dominiquecote1838
@dominiquecote1838 6 жыл бұрын
Why stage 3b if it does not appear to have spread to lymphnodes . Have you undergone scan and MRI priori to chemo to vérifie it had not spread ?

The best advice I can give is to wait for the results. The waiting is the hard bit. F she is diagnosed they should start treatment within 6 weeks with any luck. 2.3cm is still reasonably small tumour size, so fingers crossed it’ll be early stages. Good luck with the results.
