I’m an addict and we hurt the ones we love. I’ve overdosed twice. The first time was an accident and the second time was on purpose. We don’t think about other people and how it effects others including family and friends. You see us unravel and we think we’re invincible. I’ve been sober 2 years now. When we want to be sober we’ll do it but it’s something you can’t force on someone. It’s heartbreaking because we end up hurting the ones that want the best for us. I’m sorry you and your mom has to go through that. Addicts we’re selfish and we take the ones that love us the most for granted.

I know this first hand. I appreciate you talking about it and writing a song about it. My sister also turned to drugs and it took control of her. We both were adopted and had a good upbringing. I think it's hard to talk about because we don't want to talk bad about anyone and the facts are bad. A very good point is that good families experience struggles and the truth is that drugs can take control over anyone.

Unfortunatly it's beyond all desires. It's more like gravity. A black hole pulling them in and there's only so much a person can do to fight out of it. And family around them struggle to just keep them close for another moment. Sorry you have to deal with this. But I'm glad he's alive. I hope he's one of the lucky ones that finds a way through. I just got out of jail about a year ago and now I’m a year clean and going into the Navy and gon become a navy seal. It was so hard to watch me hurt my family and just prison life and halfway houses and just everything. You remind me of my lil sister. It’s very tough to get over an addiction and it’s also hard for the family emotionally. I would rather go through drugs again then see my loved one go through it but the pain of withdrawals and jail and homelessness is prob the worst pain you can experience. You seem like you have a good heart and really care about ur brother and have an understanding. I’m 21 and been dealing with addiction since I was 15 in highschool and partying and after all those years and I got clean and finally WANTED to stay clean.. rn I’m 1.5yrs clean and I promise it’s possible and have tons of friends who are still using, it’s hard but if you want it you can overcome anything… MIND over Matter

I went through similar things with my older brother. He didn’t struggle with drugs, but he was deeply troubled my whole life, and it looked similar-the arrests, the unpredictability, the homelessness, the desperation. I think it’s difficult for most people to understand the ongoing anxiety, loneliness, and trauma that come with loving someone who is struggling and hurting that much. It’s rare that I feel like someone really gets it. I appreciate how vulnerable you are in posting this; I think talking about these things helps combat the stigma around these topics. Just last week I had a semi friend that had just bought a house and had only lived in it a year with her teenage son and had gone on an amazing vacation with just her son. Die from a drug overdose. That was the first home she had ever purchased and she was doing the best she had ever done. Guess who flew in for 2 days and then left without the son and before the Memorial. Her Mom. Even after her death she still didn't care enough. Love is cure and the only anwser. My Parents are no different and actually even worse. I still struggle with my self worth. I haven't shot up since 2004 and I stay focused on loving myself and only letting those in that do not abuse me. So sharing this has been no easy task for me. My Sister Died in 2004 as well. From drunk 4wheeling. I still haven't fully woken up from the nightmare of my youth and that year.

I need to get off this topic because im very bitter about it. I think the government should do mandatory 10 year monthly drug testing for convicted addicts with mandatory 2 year incarceration at a specialized drug addict treatment facility for a second failure result. Like I said ive gotta get off this topic its too emotional and im not as positive as you but thanks again for sharing.
