Hi Antoinette, back when you posted your results I bought a kit for my brother. And he recieved his results just last week and we where talking about that maybe I should make a test, too. Just ordered it. The most stunning in his results was when it came to naming peoples last names that may be related to you. (you have to pay myHeritage to learn more, but: 1 last name is the last name of a family, living in our street here in Germany. They may or may not be related to a family that myHeritage has in mind. But that a quite rare family name from our region is already great. The 2nd family name was almost scary close: the girls name of our granny from our father's side.

Hi Antoinette! I am a first-time commenter, although I follow your channel for quite some time. Your and your brother's results are really interesting so I would like to see your sister's results, too. In regard to your paternal heritage, this might be an explanation: The near east and its countries is a construct since the 40s of the last century only. It has been a cultural melting pot for centuries, due to the exchange of goods between Europe and the far east. Therefore, it doesn't come to me as a surprise that you and your brother have ancestors from Italy and Greece. These countries - or better regions - were the main origin of merchants. Quite a lot of them found their new home in the near east region, not only the Libanon. ;-)

Hi Antoinette , I’ve noticed the many people who have one Middle Eastern parent and one European parent show a very high percentage of Italian . I think , because the Italian population sample most closely illustrate a mixture of middle Eastern dna, and European - like yourself and your brother. I don’t think it’s because you are Italian but that your ethnic combination is mostly found in the Italian population sample. Not forgetting the centuries of trade and travel between the Roman Empire and the middle eastern Mediterranean . Most people that are “west Asian “ are a mixture of Turkish, Greek and Persian , Lebanese ... This will I hope explain some of your results ....

Italian and Greek - Imagine an Italian from Naples. Naples was founded by Greek and for considerable time was under Spanish rule, before Italy became Italy. Italy was a melting pot, genetically, from the moment the Romans arrived (from central Turkey, long before Turks marauded, occupied the place, and put their name on it). Trade routes, overseas, around the Mediterranean are thousands years old and went to England and Ireland, even. Middle East and West Asia are almost the same. As North Africa once was part of the Roman empire, Romans and Greek traveled the world, they left their genetic markers there. Considering Spain/Portugal (=Iberia) and Middle East are in the report and North Africa is part of the family story, I would not be surprised if there were a couple Jewish genes as well (I know, the latter is actually a religion.) I think the breakdown will still change over time, based on the analysis that was done back then because they will have more and better data. So, you may get different numbers when the test is, say, two years old.

going back only 200 years is not enough.200 years ago all the people in italy is considered as italian but if you go back 1500-2000 years ago all of sud italy will be greek from magna grecia and not italian.the italian antic populations as romani latini siculi umbri etruschi were not in sicilia calabria puglia campania abruzzo they never lived there..in that regions all the original populations is greek and the greek language was spoken until 1000 years ago and you can find also today some villiges who speak grecano an old greek dialect.
@christophergrillo50996 жыл бұрын
@@mischa676 I agree with you on your point about the historic influence of Greeks in Southern Italy, however that was many centuries ago. Yes Calabria was colonized by Greeks 2500 years ago (but they also mixed with local native Italian tribes) and also some Greeks (Byzantines) inhabited localized areas of Calabria through the middle ages. I've learned that Albanians typically have a high percentage of Greek so the Albanian influence in Calabria may be what's showing up in my results.

South Italians cluster with Greeks. Italians are not a genetically unified people. There's almost as much variety there as in half of Europe put together. North Italians are as close to South Italians as Romanians are to Swedes. Sardinians are as far from South Italians as South Italians are from Armenians.

@@christophergrillo5099 It's insane that they would give a Lebanese person more Italian/Greek than a actual Italian that's not accurate at all. GED match did the same with me my Mum was born in Lebanon they placed her in the Near East/Cypriot spectrum and said she was like mainly South Europeans and Anatolians? Like Hittite I guess and they said I was conpletely like Italians and Greeks seeing as I am also half English but my heritage said my Mum was 40 percent North African 40 percent Middle Eastern and the rest is Caucasian West Asian and they said she was only 12 percent European. Don't they think that people would notice if someone was only 12 percent European?

My sister is just way different than mine too.. I didn’t really understand mine and I don’t really think it’s correct. I know they change the algorithms on the ancestry DNA. They have me is 89% British/ Northwest European. My sister is 56% British/ Northwest European and cheese 35% Irish Scottish Something like that, I am 7% Irish Scottish and 4% Norwegian. The thing is I trace this back and I have never heard of any of her family being from great Britain and our family originated from Spain none of the Native American popped up and I have over 62 documents of tribal information. There is several generations in Ireland which makes sense for my sister but If this is Northwest European and it says that consist of Ireland Scottish how am I only 7%. The whole thing is really contradicting. I don’t really trust it every since they updated the algorithms. I just hear that everyone had a very large estimate under Great Britain under the change. I guess you have to take it with a grain of salt anyways.

Hi, I studied about Genealogy in college a-bit. My understanding is we have to sets of Gens one set us recessive and one set is dominant. The one is dominant makes our personality how we act and how people see us! and the recessive one is the part that we'll pass on as a dominant in our children. Now I have my own theory with knowing about consious and subconsious level of our mind , I think the recessive one should have a big role in our subconsious level to attractct the similar enetgy to our life(I might be right or wrong but I experienced this in my own life. for example my DNA showed 3% Jwish 0% Africsn abd 17% Indian 80% west Asian( Turkey, Greece, Georgia& Iran) and my sisiter has 24% Jwish and North Africsn and 15% Greek 7% Italian and 53% West Asian. And I draw more Jwish and African people to me as freind. And my sister draw more West Asian(Turk, Iranian,Greek)

Dear Antoinette Identical twins DO have the same DNA, its true,even though they sure are different persons, different charakters, BUT yes they do have the identical DNA, its surprising isnt it. So that leads to another question. Why can identical twins be so different in behaviour, fashion style,sports, even charakter? To me it prooves that DNA does NOT form a person, but the way we grow up, the influences we faced,the way we learn about the world at a very young age. THAT leads me to the conclusion how important parents are, how sometimes the same influences form in a different way. Isnt that interesting? And to me it makes sence.Each human beeing is different, we might share some values and experiances BUT each human beeing is unique.That doesnt mean everone is good. I do think its wonderfull. Because it prooves to me that we all should respect each other. What i can do someone can do it better, what i cannt do someone can do it. So it is so stupid to think that we do not complement each other. Everone has his Pro's and Con's working in respect together is the way. I am very thankfull for your clip and i could write about this subject much more,but This is youtube

(Tease) so, AE, your brother has an X and a Y chromosome and you have two X? Seriously, he has the Y from his father, not the X from father. (Let's add a label to the X chromosomes to indicate individual origin.) You have Xf from father and Xm1 (one of the two from mother). Your brother could have Xm2 from mother and that way, in the XX/XY chromosome pairs, you have no overlap - you could be strangers, not related. Except you might both have a crossover thing from one parent that likely is not taken as a family relation. There is an incredibly small chance that you got completely different chromosomes passed on, in all the other pairs as well. By the way, if you start life as identical twins, by the time you are both 50 years old, you are not identical anymore to the point it is hard to decide you ever were.

Wait though, if you don't have any trace of a certain ethnicity but your sibling does, doesn't that mean that whatever that ethnicity is you can't claim it since you don't have it, despite your sibling having it? That person may be in your family lineage but you don't have any genes from them. Is that right?
@SereniaSaissa6 жыл бұрын
You can still claim to be what ethnicity your parents have, but just because they didnt show up on your DNA test, may means that you did not inherit those genes, Remember - you only inherit half of your mothers genes and half of your fathers genes, you do not inherit everything they have. So naturally you may have some ethnic DNA missing. For me, my mother has English and Ashkenazi jewish DNA while I dont have any of those at all. I did not inherit those genes. But I do know that I have english ancestry - from both side of my family. I have no idea where the Jewish DNA comes from.

corni wo I think it’s because the people in us and nz a good part of the population isn’t native so they would like to see where they are from??
@z-mackdos6echo3116 жыл бұрын
It’s been great to watch people discover who they are and where there from. So it’s been said women dna is mainly from their mom’s coding, but reduced by half. The male’s Y chromosome gives a whole side that women can’t see until the brother or father has their dna tested. So it sounds like your dad isn’t Lebanese’s, but Italian. Or as ancestry’s dna test would say because of your Greek and Iberian background you’re Southern European since that is the largest percentage in both your genetic background. If you would like more in-depth information on your genealogy take your raw data and head over to GEDmatch and they can provide you with a greater detailed of your genealogy. I’m sure it a great gift, but being from the U.S. I’m a bit distrusting with what the information we so willing provide could be sold to big money businesses to used by those devising a way who wish to use it in an unethical manner. I lack trust in any large corporation. Cheers.
