Hidden Valley Footpaths

Күн бұрын

In 2 hours i, check 2 bushcraft shelters, and have 2 coffee's. Relaxing in nature and taking a slow walk through forests and woodlands. My first shelter, unfortunately, has been smashed down and left unusable with no prospect of salvaging it.
This is the risk when building in the circumstances associated with Bushcrafting and wildcamping. Memories forged and a year's worth of use so not all is lost.
Facebook...folklore hiking and country walking sticks.
Ebay...a small selection of our hiking sticks can be found on this platform.

Beautiful memories made from some dead wood and a little moss. The simple things in life are often the best, hopefully one day you'll return and fully enjoy those special moments made. Best regards from Derbyshire....

@hiddenvalleyfootpaths2561 I'm old now (67), so I'm basically a child of the 70s. I was raised in a small U.S. town by, and around people who survived WW2 and the great depression. The changes I have seen in my lifetime are astounding. Love your content, and throughly enjoy your vidios.👍👍 Keep up the good work and stay safe.

Hi Andy, pleased your new bushcraft shelter is still ok, shame about the old one. The good thing is the happy memories and photos of the family there. Im sure your boys will always remember it. Take care Paul

Sorry to hear about your eye and the camp being dismantled, I found out today after a local council visit, that structures of any kind need to be processed through planning permission so maybe something to do with it. But I also learnt living growing structures are allowed without pp from council. Hope this helps.. BatW

Sorry to see your shelter destroyed Andy. These days unfortunately you expect it. You mention things being banned, it's terrible. When we are all kicked out of our homes we'll all be living in the woods that's when people like you will have a head start👍😊

I am torn about this situation, as most people always say to me, leave no trace when you go out and camp, it is not your land, nor do you ask permission and a shelter should be temporary and when you leave, then you should leave no trace as the woodland needs its nutrients. and it is not an eye-sore for someone coming and thinking someone is in there.
@hiddenvalleyfootpaths2561

Hi, Leave no trace is a fantastic way to operate in the outdoors. The forest locations I have used are under management from organisations that will clear cut to the ground for many hundreds of meters square every 50 to 60 years. These are commercial forestry operations with little diversity other than the specific species to be cropped. The materials in the bushcraft shelter building are all natural to this environment and will decay fast due to the damp climate and heavy mould and fugues present. No man made items are present, and the cordage is garden fast Decaying type . I don't shelter build in our natural native types of woodland and use a tarp in these situations as this is where most of our wildlife can be found.and commercial wood land is usually just and hiding sanctuary . I think my shelter was probably destroyed by hunter's doing a recce to place stands where deer move from forest cover to the agricultural land opposite where they feed. I hoped to do one more overnighter, but sadly, it was not to be. I don't own the land, and I operate with respect and a low impact. All logs were standing dead or fallen logs and the moss was alive and thriving on it. I will kick it around to spread it out a little next time I walk the dog down there. With that in mind, it's my duty to be mindful of the land and nature as this is my home woodland just outside my back door. Thanks for watching and commenting. Andy.

Now you dont have the hex tablets, the stove shape is redundant, why not get one of those tiny twig stoves that are flat sheets of metal as your support and have something like a boot polish tin as the gel fire holder, you could use the twig stove with twigs when its appropriate. I think some people are annoyed by signs of human activity when they go walking in woodland, thats why they knocked down your shelter but didnt destroy it, its maybe a message of "you can do this, but take it down when you finish so its not an eyesore, then fix it back up as required, like a tent"
@hiddenvalleyfootpaths2561
@hiddenvalleyfootpaths2561 2 ай бұрын
Hi, fantastic idea about shoe polish tin. There is a small hamlet at the entrance to this wood but I know all the people as its my local woodland so it's not the general public. This woodland has no carparks for any visitor's, and it's Miles down old County roads. It's own by one of the largest land owners in the UK and hunting community use it regularly. Signs go up when they are conducting shooting. It's more likely a recce for shooting that done it I would guess. Many thanks for watching and commenting. Like the stove idea will make soon.Andy.

Hi, I have a habit of moving fast even as a short chubby guy. I only stopped running 5 years ago when I left the army, and I got used to walking fast as a result . I have been known to walk 20 miles on Footpaths locally also, and I move fast to cover ground. Sometimes up to 4 miles in a hour. Thanks for watching and commenting. Andy
