Hi, I am doing a up date video to clarify when back in the UK from Portugal. .Unfortunately this is a misconception. I have been in contact with a 20 years experience SQM from the Royal wessex Yeomanry based at Exeter Wyvern Barracks regional training training centre. It was used in my day as I said and it's used today and issued to the troops vehicles as we speak. It has a NSN number also. MINE IS NOT A GENUINE. The style and shape and dimensions are. It's been verified the short one is used. VERBAL, VISUAL, AND NSN NUMBER THEY ARE ISSUED UNDER. Still in service to this day with the Royal wessex Yeomanry....the short machete. WE AND THEY DO NOT HAVE. THE NO2 GOLOK AS issued to the vast majority of needing unit's. OH ...AND as I said vehicles not personal issue. A up date will follow within the month.

The old gentleman farm up the road has just given up on sheep as he suggests theare hard work, Stubborn, prone to escape, cantankerous and one day running around fine then the next the vet is out. Sheep farming can be hard work I guess. Best of luck with your new venture. Thanks for watching, Andy.

In the Marines, one of our CQC Courses (In Boot and after, if you're that daring?!), is the use of 'Pugel Sticks'. Basically, a metal rod, two concrete 'Cans' at each end, a LOT of body padding and stout helmet, and then you just beat the crap out of each other till a winner is decided. I always took this kind of combat to heart. Papa being a Marine, he taught us all how to fight/defend ourselves, and the use of 'Staves' was part of it. Now, fighting 'By the Rules' is one thing. Fine for Commercial/Capitalist intent (ie, making $$$), but in the very real, often violent world? No. If you're 'Fighting fair,' you're already doomed to fail. I still walk/hike using 6' hardwood staves, and for the most part they're not armored/tipped with anything obvious. I can use these stout pieces of wood very effectively as they are. However... Being able to put a 'Tip' on them, that can/will make them more effective in preserving my safety/health/life? HELL yes! :-)

Hi, It's a pleasure to hear your marine training story. That's some hard training. It's fascinating hearing our American friends discussing topics like this . Here in the UK, this is slightly different and, to be honest, tightly controlled regarding personal safety and defence. If you were involved in a situation with a staff with a point and you stated it was intended for defence or proved you had the item for defence before hand, you would be on the wrong side of the law . I guess in the USA you have more personal freedoms than us.Intresting for me to hear. Thanks for watching .Andy.

@@hiddenvalleyfootpaths2561 I've had wonderful experience with UK citizens. It's the laws that I don't respect. I don't believe because things are used by bad people. Hard working law abiding citizens should suffer. Once government starts deeming things dangerous they never stop. An history has shown criminals don't care if its against the law. I would never travel to a place that treats victims like criminals because they were forced to defend themselves. An lately is even crazier locking up citizens because they were scared of criminals uprising. It's very sad. Your a good man I enjoy your videos.

Hi Andy! I've been busy these two months so I haven't even looked at the tube! Unfortunately, and I answer you, I don't have a channel but I would like to show you my works. Keep in mind that I do them, for now, for pure personal pleasure. And psychological help. I see that it is not only in Italy that problems arise: knives, axes, etc. they are prohibited, unless they are for forestry work or for "justified reason". I won't deny you that with the now daily presence of wolves and bears, here in the mountains, I go out armed with a knife, a walking stick with tip, stinging canister and a 130 Db whistle. The Bear Gryll one which is the most powerful on the market. And anyway, only an idiot doesn't understand what a walking stick with a tip like the copper one is. But unfortunately the world is full of them! But let's get back to the tips. I make them in copper like yours or with the tip you show in the video. Problem: I find those tips on the internet, first in Germany then in Italy at a price of around €5.00. But after a 6 hour trek they are completely ruined. I solved the problem with a knifemaker friend by cutting the tip, drilling the tip with a 5.5 mm tip and soldering from the inside a replacement tip for modern titanium walking sticks at a cost of €. 1.00. These too are on the internet. All for a final cost of the tip of approximately €. 8.00. And they work great and don't get ruined. Of course they are only for demanding trips, not on concrete or asphalt. The copper ones, on the other hand, are fitted with a rubber tip, but the ones I find here are not so "springy" and work quite well. There would be another option, except that they don't ship outside the US: a mixed tip/rubber toe cap that can be screwed on alternately. Beautiful but $. 45.00 is crazy! I haven't found them in Italy or Europe. I'll try to make one someday! Some poles that I know will be used in streams or water, I then finish them for about 20 cm with liquid rubber. The wood, black and copper color sequence is also very good. Nice video! PS: in the car, with a personal interpretation, I always have a schillelagh! Bye, see you next time!

Hi, Some manufacturers do state woods suitable on product tin so that may be a good place to start. If wood ( stick )is not fully seasoned, the moisture will prevent full absorption and proper drying. Wood will only absorb so much. Boil linseed oil, if heavily applied, will not all penetrant fully. The wood becomes saturated and the excess stays on top . Try wiping excess off disposing of cleaning materials safely and letting air at it to dry again. Some woods oils penetrative only so far and the wood will not except any more it will just sit on top not drying. Hopefully something there helps. Thanks for watching,Andy.
