When cutting through metal, we always start the hole saw in reverse then forward to cut, works great. Same as if you're screwing into wood and don't want to it split. Reverse then forward.

I also had a leak when I first installed my Cubic Mini, in driving rain only. I reached out to them to see if I needed a wider cap, because I had the same hunch as you… their advice (which fixed my issue 100%) was simply to add high temp caulk to the VERTICAL seam in the exposed part of the double-wall flue. Worked like a charm for me. Definitely advice worth passing on.

Temper temper... Hey , just wondering, would that vent and the chimney work going 90 out the wall and then up. I've seen it done that way in my area. That way you don't have any roof penetrations. Just wondering.
@poohbear41302 жыл бұрын
More free advice.. noticed there was no Storm collar/roof ring on the the chimney over the flashing? It diverts water that runs down the chimney and not directly on the flashing! Collar or ring slides down around the chimney till you get to the flashing, a beed of caulking around the collar and Bobs your uncle works for both chimneys. I know these Chimneys expand and contract on wood burning fires more then gas stoves and generally require a little more maintenance but good luck with the projects.

Having flashbacks watching you with that makita drill. I almost ripped my thumb clean off several times with that drill when the forstner would jam up. Makita made that thing beastly! Great control, brother. ...bummer to have to put pvc in front of that gorgeous twisty slab behind the loo... but it's still probly the prettiest outhouse on the lake!

The gasket attached to the roof should also have been installed in a diamond shape to remove the possibility of standing water on the upside seam, just like you did on the toilet roof.

First off, I love your channel. You’re a real craftsman. Secondly I am a roofer by trade with carpentry skills. We never use those rubber roof jacks but if you do use them you could start by putting it at a 45° angle and then water doesn’t dam up behind it.

In Holland (a crazy windy and rainy place) I saw they had pipes shaped like an H on top of their chimneys. So a horizontal pipe, with two verticals at the ends. Even if full wind and rain have a go at that, no way it’s leaking down your chimney. And the smoke can always go out.

From what I’ve seen with pit toilets in National Parks, you need that vent pipe to extend much higher then that roof line. That prevailing wind you talked about will act as a natural draw and pull air in at the bottom and vent odor out the top. Plus provide that “drying” action you’re looking for.

As a plumber I would recommend at least taping the joints on the toilet vent. Maybe some white Duct tape so it's not super tacky looking. But with how loose that bottom joint slipped in it'll get pretty rank with heat during the summer.

This is going to sound odd and I'm thinking a lot of people will say I'm full of it but if you think about it, it should work. Turn the square so one point is pointing uphill. This pushes the side and allows it to flow better. Traditionally you would install the boot with the up hill side slipped under the sheet metal but not practical here so finding a different way might be the trick.
