Great info!! I absolutely love the auto blade & the Cameo4. I struggled with the Cameo2 & the ratchet blade. I know most of it was user error but I think Silhouette should provide a better manual. I almost switched to a Cricut because of it but I wouldn’t have been able to use any of my designs I purchased from Silhouette, so I stuck it out. I was determined to figure this machine out! I am very thankful I found this channel because I understand so much now especially the settings. Thank you!!

Thank you so much, I have been searching for someone to explain the cutting settings to me, and you answered may questions totally! I have searched for 2 days, I just wanted to learn the reasoning behind the use of force and blade depth, etc.. Now I understand what and when I need to adjust for different problems! I just got my cameo 4 pro and was testing out cutting on cardstock to learn the machine and was running into cut problems. The cuts were not very clean now I can figure out what I'm doing wrong! I have having problems with my Curio cutting PPD glossy vinyl last night. I was trying to do vinyl die-cut stickers. It worked for half my designs on the sheet but not the second half. I tried everything... Clean my ratchet, change to deep cut Blade, increase the settings and the ratchet to 10. It's a pretty new blade btw. You video is super informative. I've learned quite a few things I was having problems with. So thank you for posting. I'm glad I'm subscribed. 👍

THANK YOU!!! I've been struggling with the stupid machine for months. It was not cutting through the paper, at all! I was so frustrated, I never had these issues with my first Cameo, I still have that one. The Cameo 4 has been a bit of pain in the behind, but you just made it go away. The auto blade was not working, I thought it was me making mistakes. I tried so many suggestions that were given and non worked, I felt dumb LOL! I just installed a ratchet blade and IT WORKED! It cut right through the paper! THANK YOU! People like you, willing to take their time to help people like me, are just the best! :)

Hey Michi! I completely understand, I struggled with the Autoblade when I transitioned to the Cameo 3, and while I tried again with the Cameo 4, I'm just not a fan. Your video on cutting problems was so helpful. I learned a lot! I am still playing with my settings but I am at a weekend retreat and transported my Cameo 3 here. Now when I send design to print my machine will calibrate the auto blade but stops when it gets to the point to move onto the card stock and cut the design. I can do a TEST CUT perfectly. I am a bit confused.

actually started to cut right then it tracked wrong and destroyed any possibility of getting a good cut. I did have the rollers positioned over the material, but it still tracked , pulled the vinyl sideways, got gummed up and I had to stop it mid-cut. I was NOT using a mat. would that have helped? I've worked with vinyl cutters (larger one for making signage 34" Panther) my whole career. and I do have a cricut maker, but never had this many issues................ thank you for being there for those of us who constantly have issues.. I'm going to cut my design on my cricut maker since I don't want to waste any more of my vinyl, but I'm determined to find out why this just doesn't work very well. I bought this thing because the print/cut was much better and larger than my cricut maker and to purchase a regular plotter / contour cutter was too expensive............ I"m beginning to regret it.

I got gifted for Christmas 2021 a Cameo 4! I love my inlaw family, they are so good to me!!! My sister-in-law has the Cameo 3 now, she started with the first one, so she's a whiz at it. She gave me lessons while I was there. Once home however, everything went to hell and the battle of woman vs machine began. LOL Two problems down, thanks to this vid but my paper keeps going sideways no matter what I do or where I move the rollers. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciate. I also think one of my problems is with the autoblade that came with it, it doesn't cut right and does not do that dance before starting like I see. And it always shows number 5.

This was very helpful. I'm a brand new Silhouette user and just got the Portrait 3 with an upgrade to the Designer edition software. I was trying some test cuts on the vinyl & HTV that came with my bundle from Swing Designs and none of the autoblade settings worked. I'm a Cricut user and when I choose a material in the Cricut software, it almost always works perfectly so I've been frustrated with the Silhouette. I did see people all over saying that the ratchet blade is better and I just got one from Amazon so I will play with that as well.

Hey Jainne! For adhesive vinyl, the "standard" is Oracal 651. Other brands just don't seem to be as easy to use. Hope this helps! ---Becky

I have a cricut explore air 2 and I recently got a cameo 4. On my cricut I can place my vinyl scrap on a particular part of the mat and as long as it matches the mat on my screen, the machine will cut it. I tried doing that with the cameo 4 and it’s like it doesn’t match up. For example, I’ll put it on the upper left-hand corner and then when I hit send, the machine will go to the upper right hand corner and cut. Any idea how to fix this?

This isn’t really more than anyone else shows. I’m looking for actual trouble shooting and keep getting the same info. The machine cuts but not with correct force. 2” blade on sticker paper set t 20 with force 33 won’t cut fully after 10 passes. New blade, installed correctly, did the right left thing, need a proper way to do diagnostics and troubleshoot. Any ideas?

Is there a way to rescue our print once the cut is wrong? I have stopped the machine when I noticed that it is cutting my sticker set the wrong way. Hey Vicky! You should have a preset in Silhouette Studio for Heat Transfer Flocked. I believe I use a blade of 3 with a Force of 33. See what the preset says and then increase the blade from there if you need to. Hope this helps! ---Becky

Hello, I just wanna ask my cameo 4 isn't clicking send when i want it to, i dont think its the blade that has an issue because there are other stickers that i print and send to the mat and it registers it. but most of the time like usually it doesnt like it doesnt even try to register the send button just doesnt do anything at all? do you know any solution with this? I bought cameo 4 last 4 months ago. And im still trouble with cutting line problems. Because everything I tried Cameo4 for sticker cutting, the cutting line were getting off from when the blade was going down to bottom part of sticker paper. The cutting line are slightly off from where they have to support to cut rightfully. That’s why i tried to fix the problem with calibration and setting details again & again but it still the same >< upper side was correctly cut in right place and im only suck with lower part of the sticker. Ok I just receive my racket blade for my cameo 3, this is my first time using racket blade , the issue am having is that , my tool option doesn’t show racket blade for me to selected to cut my work . The only option I have is autoblabe , manual blade 1 mm , manual blade 2 mm. Am kind of confused here please help . And nothing is cutting . I also went on my preference tool setting to see but there’s no option on my tool setting for racket blade

Do you ever get a bad autoblade? My sister has the same machine, same settings and same paper. We both got it for Christmas but from different places. Her autoblade cuts on the plain cardstock setting but mine does not unless I change the force and number of passes. There is no gap and I hear the click when I lock the blade. Should I buy another autoblade? Any help would be appreciated!

Honestly Shelley and Angali, I don't have a lot of luck with the AutoBlade and basically use the Ratchet blade for all my projects. I'm not sure why some craters have great success with the AutoBlade and the rest of us don't, but I like hassle-free crafting LOL. Hope this helps! ---Becky

My paper got jammed horribly once. I was not able to have the machine remove it. I had to pull it hard to get it out. I think that's when my setting got messed up. It now cuts above the top line. Is there a way to fix this? Next is my Cameo Silhouette 2(?) Is telling me it's done cutting the image. It never cut it. Please say you have a suggestion! Thanks for any help. Love your videos. Sorry to hear of your cutting troubles! I have had bad material jams also. I turn the machine off, leave it off, then move the blade holder back and forth along the bar several times. Return it back to the far left and then turn the machine back on again. That may help. If the Cameo is telling you the machine is done, I would start by checking the cut lines in your software, make sure they are lit up in bright red. Sometimes when using an SVG image, you have to turn them on manually, otherwise the software won't cut and will think that it's done. Hope this helps! ---Becky

@@DesignBundles Thanks for the info of the red lines. I'll check that out. I hadn't noticed if they were on or not. But, I do know it was the pattern I bought on Etsy. When I changed to different pattern, it cut out fine. Except for the 2 inch that won't cut on top of my mat. Everything cut finr. I'll try what you mentioned. Hopefully that will solve the problem. I plan to buy the cameo 4 but just not at this time. I'm still learning this one. (The 2) I know I'm way behind. Lol I originally bought this for cutting out fabric patches. It worked great too! Thanks for getting back to me.

Hey Sharon! Yes, if you use the HTV setting, the software is built in to ask you if you want it to mirror for you. I don't use this setting because it actually mirrors the design on the entire mat (meaning it will flip the entire work area and cause your design to cut on the opposite side). If you are prepared for that, then I'm sure it's useful, but I feel like it can cause confusion. I'll add a video to my list to help explain the difference. So in summary, for HTV you DO want to mirror, but I prefer to mirror the design myself instead of allowing the software to mirror fore me. Hope this helps! ---Becky

Hey there! Is your machine trying to connect via Bluetooth? Let me send you a video link, start at about the 2:45 mark and it will show you how to switch between Bluetooth and USB for connecting your machine. If the Cameo is trying to connect via Bluetooth and you haven't set it up, then you may just be a click away from switching over to USB. Hope this helps! ---Becky

Hey Maryann, if you cannot see the Send button, this means that your Cameo is not connected to your computer. I would check your bluetooth settings if you are connected that way or connect directly with the USB cord. Hope this helps! ---Becky

Hey John! Sorry for your cutting trouble. When cutting thicker materials, I will sometimes do it in layers. For example, I'll cut once on a blade of 5, then cut again on a blade of 7, and continue until it cuts all the way through. Just be sure not to unload your mat in between. The machine will cut progressively deeper without trying to force the blade all the way through the first time. Hope this helps! ---Becky

I would check that your blade is all the way inserted. Also what are your cut settings? You should not need to cut 2 times around on 651.

Mine has shown it is ready to cut, I hit send and in less than a second, it says it is done. But it never cut my material. Everything is good, ready to go, try it again, and the same thing happened. So frustrating. Had to restart my iMac, and my Cameo. Then it finally worked. Why would this happen?

Hey Micheline, when you are in the Send panel, check the very bottom icon that looks like a little machine. When you click on it, you can make sure you are trying to connect via bluetooth or USB. If bluetooth isn't working, you can try USB and see if it will connect that way. If so, then you know it's your bluetooth and can troubleshoot from there. Or vice versa, if could be your cord if your bluetooth works but not the USB. Hope this helps! ---Becky

A word of advice from one newbie making their first cut to another. If you find yourself here, good, bookmark it. Next follow it right to the end and THEN go back to where you are having the problem. I cut three large squares before I got so frustrated, I had to take a break. Picked up on the video where I stopped at my problem and guess what? Her next sentence was WHY, The machine kept doing it! LOL

Hey Alicia! Usually this means that your computer and Cameo are not connecting. I would check your Bluetooth on both. If both are on, try turning off for a few minutes and reconnect. If this doesn't work, unplug the Cameo for a few minutes and then plug back in and turn on. Usually by then mine will reconnect. Hope this helps! ---Becky

Ivr tried all what you have said with my cameo 4. I only got it friday, ive been trying to sort it for 2 day. Im trsting with normal a4 paper and it either tears it or isnt cutting it enough. Is it possible my autoblade is blunt even though its brand new?

Hey Aaron, anything is possible for sure. It could also be the Autoblade itself, I haven't had super great luck with the Autoblade series in particular. Are you using the copy paper cut setting and not cutting thin shapes/letters? Regular paper can present it's own set of challenges. Do you have any other scrap materials to try on? ---Becky

@@DesignBundles yeah i using normal a4 letter paper and that the setting ive selected in silhouette studio. To cut a simple logo ( crest) it had to pass 3 times over it on the preset copy paper setting. Ive been incontact with the people i got it from as i spent the whole weekend trying different stuff and nothing gave me me a clean cut. They are sending a delivery person to pick it up tomorrow and take it back so the can test the whole machine. I feel well disheartened as ive saved for over a year to buy this machine and it didnt do one decent cut. I even used up all my sticker paper and set it to white sticker paper in silhouette studio and ended up wasting all my sticker paper.

Having bought a Cameo 4 in November to maybe make a few gifts- um- nope- the machine either cuts through the mat or doesn't cut at all , and often when it does cut it is not cutting in the right place and often cuts over the same place instead of advancing. This machine is horrible- the rolls do not feed in either and will jam up-contacting Silhouette is a joke- they NEVER answer. I really wish I had have bought a different machine. :-(
