Thank you so much, William! We love to make folks laugh!😂 How hard is it to change the oil on your bike? Even checking the oil is a process on the Spyder...drive it at least 9 miles, park it on a level surface and let it run for 10 min, turn off the engine and check the oil level within 2 minutes of turning off the engine. Oh...and did you notice the color of the dipstick? Kind of matched the clean oil...maybe white would have been a better option. Our garage door is heavy with all those stickers turned magnets on it. Jody, nice job. I see you bought the light @ Harbor Freight !, love that place. I bought the plastic push-pin removal tools from there and the motorcycle floor jack. When I do my oil changes, I bought off Amazon a product called "oil absorbent pads - aka oil diapers" to put under my drain pan and around the floor. When I jscked up my bike, I used my two ramps under the front tires and a single jack stand under the rear center of the frame (you have 2x6/2x4..so that works as well too :) ). Thanks for the video !

@PurpleOnThree Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Doug! That is good to know and I am very happy that you don't have to deal with that ridiculous piece of tubing! So... Does the brake fluid reservoir still fit in the same kind of bracket? And guess what? Tommy says he watched an under 5 minute video today from Can-Am... They show how to change the oil without moving that reservoir... Can you please share your oil change experience 😁🤷♀️... Thank you!
@douglasmontgomery6315 Жыл бұрын
@@PurpleOnThree Jody, yes the reservoir fits into the bracket, but there is a metal spring clip that holds it from popping out. No rubber bottom pieces to push out or that tube in the back anymore. Yes, I did my oil change as well without removing the reservoir. I put the oil filter in the lid first, that made it easier to angle back into the housing. I'll video my next one, just didn't video this one, since there were so many online at the time (as you pointed out, Moabman has a nice one and the newer Can Am video is there as well). I will be posting a video on my ArmyChief channel next month on oils and specifically for wet-clutch systems like ours.

I recently used some car ramps (turned around backwards) behind the front tires to wash the road Salt from my trip up north. I may get another (pair) and have the back tire up on a ramp as well so it will be level as you suggest but still be high off the ground. The snapping off of the bolt is one of those things that make me want to let someone else do the work so they have to fix anything that breaks. The problem is, I don't trust anyone to do a great job these days. Thanks for a GREAT VIDEO!!!! It was very timely because I was just talking myself into doing my own oil change. Outstanding job on the oil change tutorial. Very good explanation. 🙂👍 That oil drain bolt does seem like a flawed design. Glad to hear you all were able to get it straightened out and hey at least you also get a clean bike for all that trouble too, lol 😂
@PurpleOnThree Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Nick! It takes a bit...but the good news is I am hearing from other Spyder owners with newer models, the plastic tubing is nonexistent, so that's good! I have also heard while it's tight, the brake fluid reservoir does not need moved out of the way...also good! That should save some time. Do you do your own oil changes? I am happy I now know how to do this and it saves $50 per oil change on the labor. And yes, Mr. Over-Torquey Tommy did a fine job cleaning the bike! Have a great week! 😂💜🤗

I'm confused why is your oil reading low when u added 5 quarts and u said don't overfill. But u added more?? I'm not being a smarty pants just asking because this is all new to me. Thanks How did u lift the back end of the bike for the 2x4's leveling process?
@PurpleOnThree11 ай бұрын
Hello, Rick! Good question. The 2018 F3 oil capacity is more than 5 quarts. The kits come with 5.5 quarts...so I start with 5 and go from there. We used a low profile jack on the frame of the Spyder near the floor boards to jack it up and then used the 2 x 4's. It's not necessary but does make the process easier. Hope this helps you @rickmoore9840 💜🤗

Oil changes are always an annual highlight for me because it tells me the riding season is about to start. As a rule of thumb, I change the oil every March regardless the mileage as towing adds additional strains to the engine and clutch. 🙌
@PurpleOnThree Жыл бұрын
That sounds like a very good plan, Eddie! So you are lucky enough to get to change your oil next month!! Woo hoo! I won't have to change mine until we get back from Florida...but I do need a pair of new front tires to start off the riding season.

Trick I learned for the drain plugs. If you remove the black ring before the green ring, the black ring won't fall into the green rings groove. Then install the green ring first and slip the black on over the green. Makes life easier.

Thank you so much...I really appreciate that! 💜🤗 Well, I don't know any other way to know how tight or not tight the plugs are (because the manual indicates the settings) and if you overtightened that could cause some serious damage...so I'm going to keep on torquing...just going to keep it out of that Tommy's hands! 😂

You almost have to do it yourself. $535.00 just to change oil and filter at dealer
@PurpleOnThree9 ай бұрын
Oh my gosh... that sounds like highway robbery... Have you shopped around for a different dealer? I drive 250 miles to my dealership and I have an appointment there in April to get my new tires put on. But here is what he charges for an oil change... The last oil change kit cost $144 plus labor and his labor is $100 per hour... That was in June of 2023 before we left for our Alaska trip because I wanted several other things done and figured I might as well get my oil changed because he is so reasonable. In Alaska I changed it myself as I had shipped an oil kit to our friend's house in North Pole.. Back in 2021 I paid $177 for an oil change and that included the labor. I realize prices have gone up in the past few years... In 2021 that oil kit cost $113.99.
