I just had my second eye done, and I agree...no pain at all. I did take the sedation. It was very mild and they told me I could ask for it to be increased if I needed it. I asked for one increase and it was just before the surgery started as they were getting me ready and they put the oxygen in my nose and the drape over my face and it just felt a bit claustrophobic and I asked for the increase for anxiety. I felt relaxed and felt no pain at all. I laughed when you mentioned a kaleidoscope, because that's exactly how I described it. I didn't see faces or hands or instruments, but I did see bits of moving color. I remember that from the last time too. I don't remember hearing people talking either. The first thing I remember is when they put the patch over my eye and said, it's all done. I know that everyone is different, but my experience with two cataract surgeries is that I didn't feel pain with either one. And the results are so worth it!

Thanks for your video. Just had my left eye done the other day in the USA, and will go for the second eye next week. Chose the standard insurance covered lenses, since I have no difficulty wearing glasses. I had no choice about a sedative, since it's a required part of their procedure at this practice. You are aware of movement, light, and water running across your eye, but feel absolutely nothing. (they also used numbing drops) but kind of like in a twilight zone. Recovery only took a few minutes, until I was ready to be discharged. Things turned out so well, that I am actually looking forward to the second eye next week. NO PAIN whatsoever, and I went in already having dry eye.

Had mine done too! To correct my legally blind vision. I did multifocal lenses and now have 20/20 near, intermediate and far in both eyes! It was not scary at all. The first and only surgery I have ever had. Both eyes done two weeks apart from each other. So worth the money! (Insurance did not cover - not medically necessary - even thought I was legally blind. Whatever.) I will not have to receive cataract surgery in my later years now (I am 48 and have been extremely near-sighted my entire life - corrected by glasses or contacts though - when my near-sight started to go I couldn't take it anymore). My vision will stay the same for the rest of my life. I will need to get my usual eye exam yearly (to ensure all is okay) but this is okay; I am used to that. Anyhow, highly recommended!!!

@@PineGeri I just had my right eye done on Thursday, the 20th. Everything she said is exactly what happens! Painless, you just can see the light and whatever they are doing in the eye, but no pain. Today is my second day after and mine was deep and i ended up with floaters, doctor says they will go away eventually. My eye sight isn't perfectly clear yet, a little darkish, but doctor promises it will get better. I'm doing 3 drops 4 times a day for a month, that's the only yuk part, hate doing drops. I will eventually have to have the other eye done, but I've decided not until I can't see. LOL Best of luck!

I recently had cataract surgery done. I had the dropless cataract surgery done on both eyes with a monofocal lens set for distance implanted. No regrets and my sight is just fine and I just need glasses to read small/fine print. In my opinion a healthy dialogue with your eye doctor is paramount and educate yourself before you choose a proper lens for your eyes. Also, keep in mind that a relatively healthy eye is required for best results regardless of the lens you choose. Take care and stay safe everyone.

Thanks for this comment! I will have a monofocal lens with distant vision implanted in two weeks. In my mind everything up close will be very blurry according to what my Dr said. I'm surprised that you only need readers for small fine print. I hope mine are like that! But I don't mind wearing glasses to see intermediate and close up. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I had left eye cataract surgery four days ago. They used iv which helped a lot. I have experienced no pain at all including the surgery. Next day, vision was amazing. Everything so clear. Day 2. under eye bruise and swollen. Day 3. Swelling going down Day 4. Still some bruising but no swelling. Heartily recommend to all. Can’t get the right eye done soon enough. UPDATE Day 7. All good. Follow up visit to doctor. Doctor stated “perfect, in fact, better than perfect” as I could read the bottom line of the test. Interestingly doctor suggested I consider changing the right eye prescription to a little less distance and therefore blending so my reading ability would be better. I am so happy with my long distance vision, I chose to go again for that so they balance. Day 14. Still a bit of that gritty feeling, but not too much irritation. A little bruise remains. When I stopped wearing the eye cover at night, it was a major move forward mentally. Still on four eye drops per day which will continue for the four week period after surgery. Vision exceptionally good. Day 21. Three weeks after surgery. Vision great. Sometimes that gritty feeling occurs, but overall a fantastic result. Interestingly with one eye with standard long distance lens, and one still requiring lens replacement, it’s sometimes a bit hard to judge distance perception when parking. Overall a minor inconvenience that will be rectified when right eye is operated on. An aside which might only be me. I was losing count of the drops, “was that three, or did I do four?” Ended up making a simple checklist and ticked a box immediately after the drop.

@@alisoncauser2955 : Wishing you all the very best Alison. Had first operation in January, the second about six weeks later. Exactly the same, no pain, no bruising. Again, didn't even need a headache tablet. In fact, from my notes, the recovery was about two weeks speedier all along the way. Now in December I can say it has certainly changed my life. Only downside was I went for standard lenses for economic reasons and I'm constantly looking for reading glasses which I strategically (maybe too grand a word!) place in various locations around my home. Have no fear Alison, the operation itself is very relaxing and you don't see or feel a thing. Good luck!

You’re the first person on KZbin I found that actually described the procedure. Thank you! I have my exam next week, and I’ve researched all I could about cataracts and astigmatism. My right eyesight has always been worse than my left eye, but my dominant left eye has the cataract. I really want to get my doc to give his opinion on the toric lense since I am probably a good candidate for it (but what do I know!). I’ve worn glasses since kindergarten. When I first had the same symptoms you very accurately described, I panicked. When you’ve dealt with poor eyesight your whole life, suddenly getting cataracts is like a punch in the gut! Your welcome words of encouragement were exactly what I needed!
@barbnala8360
@barbnala8360 Жыл бұрын
I have astigmatism and have used the tonic lenses they are weighted slightly at the bottom so they sit correctly they also have three lines on so you know which way to put them in lines at 3-6-9 o’clock so to speak. I had what is called mono vision lenses so I didn’t have to wear glasses as well as lenses when I was reading… basically what it means is one lens is for your distance prescription and the other is for your reading description. The brain automatically adjust the vision to give you perfect sight. The only downside I would say is that looking for the lines on the contact lens is a nightmare and the lens can end up with grease on off your fingers…so constant hand washing is needed ❤

@@3dogsdesert Nine months ago seems like forever now! I wore glasses for over 60 years, but having 20/20 vision now, I barely have memories of not seeing myself in the mirror after my shower (actually, that was a blessing). Everything, even at a distance, is sharp and colors are so vivid. I even went out and bought an OLED TV (worth the $$) for its amazing image quality. The only downside to seeing long and medium distance without glasses is now I need reading glasses. It’s a pain having to grab readers just to glance at ingredients on a package at the store. Plus I STILL occasionally adjust my nonexistent glasses when I’m tired! But having the surgery was a breeze when you realize what a miracle it is that the doctor performed in less than 15 minutes!!

Thanks for posting about your experience, I was told just this week that I have an advanced cataract in my right eye. I'm 50yo, was so shocked by the news that while discussing the surgery w/the ophthalmologist and envisioning the surgery, I became nauseous and fainted. They had to lay me on the floor, made the AC cooler, gave me water etc. I was absolutely shaken by it! Now I have to think about it and the options for lenses.

I had my right eye done at end of June and my left last Tuesday. Excellent treatment. I was really anxious the first time but that was because everything is unknown. Honestly it is a doddle. I have antibiotic eye drops and steroid eye drops to take for 2 and 4 weeks with a post operation review in 2 weeks. I think it depends on the type of surgery as to the dos and don’ts. Wipe eye with cool boiled water. Don’t do anything that could result in dust or dirt getting into the eye. Very little else to worry about. I’ve noticed some of the videos give a whole ream of don’ts but they are mainly From the US so I don’t know what differs for them.

@@ade7163 I chose the Clareon Panoptix Toric lenses. I now have better than 20/20 vision in each eye at distance. Close up, with adequate lighting, I can read the tiniest writing on medicine bottles/boxes no problem at all. On the close up card they give you for testing, I could have read a couple of font sizes smaller than the smallest font they had. The lenses are fantastic during the day. At night, when I first got them done... MASSIVE intense starbursts, halos, and glare around lights at night. The radius of the starburst was about half the height of some streetlights. Since then, the intensity has probably halved. It never really bothered me, and they never affected my driving. I am about 7 and 5 weeks since my operations and it still feels like the refresh rate is a bit too slow. That's what if feels like, but I think it's really just caused by movement of the lenses. I would do it all again in a heart beat... and I would choose the same lenses again. If I was a perfectionist or a pilot flying at night I might choose different ones... but for my needs... they are brilliant. They certainly beat going blind.

I had pain and I said so during the surgery. My dr. said no it is pressure. I said no it is PAIN! My entire body started shaking uncontrollably. He asked if I was ok and I said I didn't know. He went right back to what he was doing. My head was taped down tight to something hard so it wouldn't move. I told the anesthesiologist that twilight sedation does not work for me as I have been on anxiety med for 25 years. I was offered nothing else that would help me. I am having the second one done this week and more worried than I was about the first one. This dr. came highly recommended by a very close friend but she got the premiere surgery and paid her copay of $10,000. I did not. People were pampered in the recovery room. I didn't have a bed waiting for me but a wheel chair to leave. I said I was not leaving until I had something to drink as I am diabetic and gone a long time without anything. The nurse told me I could get something when "we were on our way down the road." I said no go get a drink. It was all ice with a tiny bit of soda. I sat it down to get my sunglasses out and she took it and threw it away. The office where I was seen is highly overbooked and no communication between groups in the office. I have to have a corneal transplant in a few weeks and not sure I am going to allow the same dr. to do it.

I was born a diabetic and in 2003 my eyes began to bleed, after a new eye doctor talked me into being his gunnie pig for his new laser he had bought. if you have ever gone to a play and seen them close the curtains and it goes dark, that is what happened. They filled with blood, and I was blind. I was so scared, but I was sent to the best eye surgeon in my state, and he did eye surgeries to fix the bleeding. Thank God it WORKED. I was so happy I cried for a week with joy. I swore I would never allow eye surgeries again. Fast forward to today, I have a very bad cataract in my left eye, and I can't see, everything is dark and clouded, I can no longer read small print and they tell my I must have the surgery, but I won't lie, I'm afraid. I don't want to lose my vision but it is so bad that I don't think I have a choice. Your video has helped me and I wanted to thank you for that.

@@Lovelygirliebits Done, after a couple of postponements. I opted for the sedation, so once they pushed the plunger my worries disappeared. For the next twenty or thirty minutes, I saw three lights. At times I was drifting somewhere else, and don't remember it all that well. My biggest worry was keeping my eye still, but I guess I did because the doctor didn't tell me to stay still (that I remember). I'm very nervous about medical procedures I haven't faced before, but it wasn't bad at all. Hopefully this helps somebody.

Had my right eye done, and no issues other them the speculum that holds the eye open...not bad though. Day after, when the dilation was normal, the brightness was overwhelming, and the sharpness was like 52 years ago! I just had the intraocular lens (monofocal), for distance-the next day though, there was a small bit of astigmatism, I also still have my prescription lens in the other eye, so perhaps that's part of the shift with some text ...or the eyedrops...I know I need to give it time for the eye to fully heal, i just hope that will clear up after the 2nd surgery in 2 weeks. I've also tried to avoid lifting and bending over, but kind of hard to do with socks, lol. I guess I just need to be patient.

Hi Lisa, it's a hard decision, especially when it comes to the eyes, so I totally get where you're coming from. I can only speak from my own experience and say that my vision began to really affect my day to day life and it's what forced me to get it seen to. I don't wear glasses so I had no other option but to get the surgery, but if you're worried, definitely speak to your doctor again to see what the pros and cons of getting a stronger lens would be, or if it would make any difference at all. With my cataracts, my vision was so cloudy, so a lens wouldn't have made a difference, but it might be different for yours. Hopefully someone from Scotland read your comment and can point you in the direction of where you could get the surgery done if that's what you end up doing xxx

I just had it done. All I remember is seeing (sedated) two alien sticks going at it. Seemed literally like one minute. The only pain was the IV insertion (if you've ever had one, not that bad). Next week is My other one. No Fear. My right eye was done. I remember seeing this a little more yellow in that eye, thinking it would be nice to see normal through both eyes. Ha! I now know what whit actually looks like. Every color I had been identifying with was off. Shirts I thought were one color were actually another. If you wonder how bad I had cataracts, my right eye, everything was cloudy; My left, just a slight halo around lights But now noticeably yucky yellow. The Eye drops after feel like dropping grains of sand in Your eyes for 1 minute, but these are necessary for a good heal. Not as bad as the IV going in, but worse than the ones You get before the operation. I get to go through it again next week, That's OK. I went for distance monofocal IOL, thinking that It might be cheaper in the long run to possibly get by with reading glasses. Too early to tell, as it's only day 2.

@@shivarahimipiano Manual surgery. The surgery was in the hospital same day surgery center. Arrived at 6 am. Didn't enter the surgery room until about 8 am. Iodine wash around the eyelids stung just a little. I was not awake during the procedure (IV stuff put me to sleep) . Woke up with an eye patch. That is the only way I could tell they did anything. No pain at all. I was home by 9 am. Visited the eye doctor at his office next morning to remove the patch. Honestly the hardest part was keeping track of the 3 types of eye drops 3 or 4 times/day you have to take for a few weeks after surgery. I have had my new Clareon Vivity EDOF for about 6 months now. The Clareon has less glistening. I think I paid about $2,500/eye above what insurance covered. I was scared before surgery on the first eye but I couldn't wait until they did the other eye a couple of weeks later. My eye surgeon had done over 5K cataract surgeries so I was in good hands.

I had one done in April…omg getting that numbing injection is so painful even after the numbing drops. I had no pain after that. I had my other eye done yesterday by a different consultant… the top guy. When I said I was nervous about getting this injection the nurse told me he used a different method….sigh of relief at this point. She put several lots of drops in to numb my eye but it wasn’t having any of it…my eye was stinging still. So she used another type of numbing drops the sting was still there but not as much….she said I’d get more once in theatre. Off we rolled into theatre ….he started to sterilise the area with iodine 🫢omg the sting was awful he said I shouldn’t be able to feel it…so out came more drops….then I saw the syringe…thankfully he only used it to squirt the anaesthetic over my eye. This ext but is when I called him a few names under my breath ….he proceeded to put what I was told was a port into my eye…I thought he was pushing it into my boots ( and they were in the locker 😂😂) this was so painful and a lot of pressure. So yes you’ve guessed it out came some more anaesthetic. After that it was totally pain free…but my eye felt like I’d been to the dentist (when you get gums numbed and your cheek goes numb) I couldn’t move my eye 😂😂😂😂 I came home with eye patches as well as the plastic eye shield this time… due to a bit more bleeding from my eye where they’d actually injected the anaesthetic. This morning I’m a bit goo-eyed but not in to much pain…drops help. But once this blurriness wears off I no longer need to wear glasses 24/7 my vision in both eyes has gone from 6.75 right down to 1.5. So even if you do get a bit of pain during the survey ..the end result can be life changing On the plus side …I got my hair soaked by the top eye guy in the hospital

Wasn't really going to participate but, I guess it's whatever. I got my first eye done three days ago. The surgery was terrifying. They did local, and not general, anaesthesia. Which hurt a lot. Everything else was terrifying, but painless. She's right, you really do feel like you're looking through a kaleidoscope. A prettier version of one, anyway. I'm able to see waayyy clearer, but I can't read stuff. Most things look blurry. I can't see stuff up close, the closer things get, the more blurry they are.I had a floater in my eye, but it dissolved. I'm typing this using my eye that wasn't operated on, because that's the eye I can read with when I wear my old glasses. I'm going for review in three days and I'm hoping I'll be fine by then and not need to read. If I do get glasses, it'll be very thin glasses, which will be a huge step up from the thicker-than-frozen-peanut-butter ones I had before. I'll be posting updates for fun.

Update Okay, so I've had both surgeries in the passed three weeks. The first one I had three weeks ago and the second one, I had two weeks later (It was supposed to be a week later, but my right eye was - and has been - taking long to heal). My second operation, thooooo!!! This is the one that humbled me because, while I had anaesthesia, I still felt most of things being done. So, despite the discomfort I felt, I needed to just grit my teeth and relax. Unfortunately, this is the kind of surgery that takes two to tango. You and the doctor, your job is to be calm and relax while the surgeon does the rest. It's been a little over a week since my second operation and my eyes are still taking their time to get to a point where they're fully healed. I'm still on eye drops while my eyes heal slowly, so, that's that. My left eye is healing faster than my right eye and I'm hoping that by next week Friday, I'm able to see better in both. It's just a bummer that the healing process has taken this long. But I'll keep posting updates as time goes on. I'm leaning on my left eye for typing this. Things are still blurry, so, It's a little hard. I'm trying to limit my screen time, I don't know how much of a bearing that has on my healing progress, but I'm taking it easy with my eyes. I just saw this notification from @charwest9449 when I was going through my emails, (I'm a graphic designer and I work in Digital Marketing as well, so I was checking for client emails). Pardon any typos.

@@charwest9449 So it's really been a month since the last update. Okay, so, I had a complication. My IOL (Intraocular Lense) got dislocated and it only got worse. My vision hasn't fully healed a full two months after the first surgery, but my vision has been getting better, although slowly. I've been away from work for two months, now, so, I'm still waiting for my vision to fully recover. It's been a very slow healing and recovery process, but I've been told that I'm an outlier as far as healing this slow is concerned. I'll be getting glasses in a month because my prescription keeps changing and that means that if I get glasses now, I'll end up having to change them regardless. So, my doctor told me to go get temporary reading glasses, which I'm using to type this message to you. I've had three surgeries so far, the first two were cataract surgeries and the third was a repositioning surgery. I'm basically going to have to make a lot of lifestyle changes going forward. Which sucks because I was really looking forward to starting to play sports like football (soccer) again. Anyway, when my vision is at a 100 is when I'll log in my last update. So, I'll be seeing you in the next month. I'lll probable do a nice consolidated review on my next one. Anyway. See you in November.

Hi, I’m due my cateract surgery in my right eye in about two weeks, like most people I am anxious about being able to lie still and not fidget during the surgery and when I went for my pre-op check no-one mentioned any kind of sedation, I think as this is done on NHS they just get on with it, I didn’t think to ask. I think the calmer I am the better and I might ring up and ask, what do you think ? You seemed to cope with yours very well without.
@Lovelygirliebits
@Lovelygirliebits Жыл бұрын
Wendy, I would absolutely ring up and ask them about sedation, especially if they didn't mention it. And now that you've said it, I don't think it was mentioned to me in my consultations beforehand. It was only the nurse who was chatting to me when I was getting gowned up etc before the op who asked if I was going to get it and I said it was the first I'd heard of it! As cheesy as it might sound, I found meditation really helped during the surgery. I have a subscription to the Calm app and use it to help me go to sleep, but during the surgery, I focused on me breathing in and out and that helped. I said to myself, this is going to be for 15 minutes or so, I can do this. But 100% ask for sedation if you think it'll help you relax because that will help both you and the doctor doing the surgery. The very best of luck with it xxx

Please update your video or do another one so that we can hear what happened with your floaters after the laser treatment. I had both of my eyes done within two weeks of each other, and the left eye still has cloudiness which the doctor said could be removed with the laser in about three months. But now I am worried that my already existing floaters may become even worse after the laser treatment. I am eager to hear what your longer-term experience has been. Many thanks for doing this video!

So in terms of the floaters, I still have them. My consultant said that as I get older, they should settle as the fluid in the eye is more viscous when we're younger, and when we get older, it gets thicker. I have them in both eyes and sometimes they're incredibly frustrating, but for the most part, I've gotten used to them. I find them most annoying when I'm typing on a computer like I am now because they're more obvious on a white screen. But when they settle, my vision is great! I just need to keep my eyeballs more steady !

Hope your blurriness improved. My sister-in-law worked for an opthalmalogist and said it can take weeks to clear up. Seems some see good right away and some it takes time.

I had cataract surgery about a week ago and it hurt like hell. It was like someone pressed their thumb into your eye and won't let up. It's the pressure. But I will say my cataracts were quite advanced.

I just had my second one done a year after the first and its funny how I can't remember all the stuff from before already. but I was just going to say eat your carrots and greens. I also supplement Beta Alanine as it is a precursor to Carnosine which is very prominent in eye and brain tissue. I don't know if helps or not really but they say it does as well as other anti-oxidants like Vit C, etc... Glad yours are going well... PS I have been told that Lutein and Xanthinin supps dont do much have you or anyone hear heard anything about that one. Its pretty popular on the store shelves in the states over recent years.

@@Lovelygirliebits floaters and retinal detachments can happen after cataract surgeries-like 1% for detachment, but if you are new to floaters, give it time...your brain will learn to ignore it after time. I assume all the tugging and pushing on the eyeball (aging one too), can cause those issues. I watched a surgery the other day-and I would NEVER go to that surgeon, he was brutal to the eye!

I had operation with toric EDOF lens 6 days ago and I cannot see letters, I cannot read at any distance. There is occasional fog coming from drops but it’s all clear I just see distorted letters but see some items at the distance and for some reason when I come outside some different air comes and I can read the number plates of cars on the other side of road but when I go inside I cannot see any letter and cannot read far and intermediate. I’m seeing doc tomorrow. Really frustrating.

Hi, thank you for sharing your experience getting cataract surgery done! I am 50 years old and have to do cataract surgery soon. Currently, I have cataract in one eye. Mine is Posterior Subcapsular Cataract, which apparently younger folks get and progresses quickly. Did you have a laster-assisted cataract surgery done or just manual? I am researching a lot the advantages and disadvantages of both.

Awww Thank you sooo much for this video! 🙏🏼☺ Super helpful hearing about someone's experience with laser eye surgery to remove their cataracts. Am doing some research to help my Dad with his upcoming surgery. A quick question: you mentioned the floaters in your eye which are more prone to happen as a result of laser surgery. Now that a year has almost passed, do you still find you have the floaters when you look down and then look up? Or have the floaters disappeared? Thanks so much in advance 💛
@Lovelygirliebits
@Lovelygirliebits Жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you found this helpful! So with my cataract, most of it was at the back of my eye and during the procedure, my consultant tried to polish it away. But she could only do so much to avoid any damage, so that's why I had to have the YAG laser, so your Dad might not need that. I still have the floaters and it was my main concern when getting the second laser done on my left eye, but my consultant said that because I'm younger than the usual cataract surgery patients, I notice the floaters more because apparently the juice in your eye (not her words, I can't remember the terminology for it!) is more liquid, so the floaters move around more. Whereas with older patients, their eye juice is thicker, so the floaters aren't moving around as much. I hope that helps and I hope the surgery goes well for your Dad xxx
