Murray's Superior Hair Dressing Pomade can be bought on the Muticultural Hair Products Isle at Walmart for $2.50. I've been using this can for 8 years and the hair dressing within for a variety of Grease Lamps. Yes, I understand that many containers will work for a char tin. Many like what are thrown away everyday. I like this one so much because of it's durability; and, it's the perfect size to use in my Hobo Stove. This can will last a couple of years and make dozens of batches of char cloth before it wears thin and starts to crack up. Come watch me use this can to cook up a couple of batches of char cloth and punk wood. Please follow the LINKs below and SUBSCRIBE. TY! I watched a video & the guy had the vent hole on the side of the tin. By the side I mean on the edge of the lid drilled through both the lid & main body of container. What this allows is when burning line up the hole in both, for a storage container offset the holes. This is now my preferred why to vent a container. 🔥🇨🇦

Sounds like NW primate. I like being able to move my can around easily with a stick in the vent hole.

Another small tin that is handy is the small tin of "Bag Balm" you can purchase from tractor supply or online. It is a rectangular tin, and Bag Balm is an awesome hand cream for cracked dry hand skin during the winter months.

My wife bought a new can opener from a friend that was having a 'PamperedChef' party. (After the shock of the price she paid for it wore off.) I found that it cuts the top of the cans off in such a way that leaves the seam intact, allowing me to replace them fairly tightly. I've made several char tins with everything from small olive cans, to much larger soup and vegetable cans. But I like the one you have because it'll stay on better for storage in my pack. Thanks for sharing! 👍👍

They have manual can openers that cut the side instead of the top like that. I could use some of those relidded cans.

Might I suggest a variation? Yes, you have do s so many fire starting means. Might I suggest you show them in instances that you might need them for those of us who don't think past just starting a fire--yes, I know you have mentioned them and application might be a logical point but many don't appreciate applying when it is needed. Ice fishing, stratnded camping or on the road, loss of heat..etc...

Commenting to appease the algorithms.... “I don’t want FOP! I’m a Dapper Dan man.” 😎 Actually, I have a couple of tea-tins that I use to make char. About the size of your tin, only they’re cube shape.
@DavidWestBgood2ppl2 жыл бұрын
Fop became a pejorative term for a man excessively concerned with his appearance and clothes in 17th century England. ... The pejorative term today carries the connotation of a person, usually male, who is overly concerned with trivial matters (especially matters of fashion) and who affects elite social standing.

Hi David, I've been watching your videos for over a year now and I always find them interesting and educatonal. I recently saw this video about using stinging netttles as a tinder for flint and steel fire making. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJzVZqOflKaondU I was wondering if you had seen this technique before, and if not, could you please try it out and let us know if it works for you.
@DavidWestBgood2ppl2 жыл бұрын
I saw the video just hours after they posted it in the early morning. None of those plants grow in upstate SC, if they did, I think you would still have to have the "sparkiest" steel... the best of Flint, Chert, or Quartz,.. and the 1000s of strikes of practice that they had before making it work. Except for that one plant, the materials would have to be super dry. I'm actually not close minded about their discoveries, but will wait for testimonials from others that have tried it out... tried it out in an uncontrolled environment.
