I'm on board with a cultural perspective that includes respect and collaboration as highly valuable to the society. It needs to go further to the "great speculation" whereby I hold that there are beliefs I hold that are precious to me and therefore also hold that the same is true of you. OR, better said: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

I live in a very rural part of the South-West Peninsula of England (the West Country); and consequently "hard-working people" (usually men!) may be seen, out in all weathers, and at all times, driving various large agricultural vehicles, or herding sheep, past our windows, and through our front garden. Various services (refuse workers, and delivery people: also usually men!) join them in helping our retired lives to be comfortable. As a retired Nurse, with academic interests, I think those who work and study in today's 'Acadaemia' have little idea as to what "hard work" is. There is a marked difference between working the land, manually, in all weathers, and writing great tomes from the comfort of a heated study or home. And here is where my own 'libertarianism' crashes rudely into my awareness that we all need one another. The reason the Academic is free to teach and research, or the Surgeon available to cure us by an operation, is because others are processing his/her water and refuse, maintaining the environment and roads, and - perhaps - even growing or preparing our food.

Da fuq is he babbling on about. That was the most convoluted obtuse definition of libertarianism I've ever heard. "It's freedom where people are free", no mention of individualism vs collectivism, private property rights, the non aggression principle, inalienable rights, rule of law, contracts, charity vs social programs, voluntarism, limited government, 1A, 2A, or Ron Paul. Instead he talks about working together, almost sounding like a collectivist. 20 min in and he hasn't concisely outlined one clear libertarian principle but keeps talking about working together in groups. And of course he's an academic and a politician, ffs. Yeah, I also like Ayn Rand, Mises, Hayek, The Grateful Dead and Rush. But damn I can't listen to this guy. Almost all the popular libertarians today make me want to distance myself from the moniker. That's largely why I choose to identify as classically liberal today, because it basically comprises the same principles without the baggage of self-professed libertarians who are midwits.
