i think people forget that while the songs are more “pop” and commercial, their record label wanted another dark album. they realized that suicide and death were selling & wanted my chem to produce a meaningless album solely for the profit. danger days was their way of saying fuck you to the “system”, if you look at the comics and the music videos that go along with the album, it’s all incredibly colorful and anti-corporate. i’ll try not to write a whole essay about queerness and capitalism and whatnot but this album will always be amazing!! love the videos dude, so glad you chose to get into this band. definitely one of the nicest fanbases out there.

This album is pretty controversial among even the community, but I love it so much, it shows how each member of the band got better as people, especially Gerard! He won against addiction and depression and it definitely shows with how fun the album is to listen to, even if it was the last real album we got before the band separated(you definitely should listen to the Black Parade and Three Cheers B-Sides!!!! "Kill All Your Friends" and "Heaven Help Us" are seriously one of their best songs!)

I came here for MCR and stayed for your reactions. I love how genuine they are, how you give your honest thoughts on everything but how you're also respectful, even if it's something that's not really your thing. I absolutely love that you're so invested in what you're reacting to, that you vibe with the music and that you take your time to analyze and appreciate the lyrics, the stories the songs tell, the instrumentation, the overall vibe. The guys really put their all into the music they make and it makes me happy to see someone notice that and just appreciate them for it. Definitely don't regret subscribing :) (p.s. you should def react to the Na Na Na and Sing music videos, and maybe The Kids From Yesterday one too, it's just a mashup of videos from their concerts but it's beautiful and it makes me emotional lol)

This album has the best lore of them all, as it's complimentary to a comic book series the singer Gerard Way wrote before he went on to write The Umbrella Academy It's set on a futuristic dystopian California 2019 reality, which is really interesting because they disbanded in 2013 and their reunion concert was in California in 2019 Also, from this album forward the band only had 4 members as they kicked out the drummer after The Black Parade for being a shitty person so MCR has not had a permanent drummer since about 2008, but drums are still pretty solid

Danger Days will always be one of my favorite albums of all time. It holds so much sentimental value because it was one of the first albums I really enjoyed. Ngl I used to fall asleep to this every night lol. The story behind this album is so beautiful and I love it so much. I know most people don't agree, but I absolutely love the theme for this album! All the bright colors might not seem like the path they'd go down, and it might seem like all fun and games, but spoiler alert, they die at the end :| anyway, fun fact! this album actually serves as a sequel to the comic series Gerard wrote about the Killjoys, and I haven't read them because I'm broke but from what I've seen, they're amazing! You definitely check it out if you have the time/money! Anyway, enough rambling about how good the album is, this was a great reaction video! I've said it like five times and I'll say it again. There's a lot to you saying that there's always a story to every song. The singer, Gerard Way, originally wanted to be a storywriter. Specifically he wanted to write comic books. He basically flexed his storywriting talent in his music. This whole album has a story as well, and he did make a comic book out of it named with the same name as the album ("The true lives of the fabulous killjoys"). He also wrote the comic book series "The Umbrella Academy," which got a Netflix adaptation a few years ago.

to what you said about the songs sounding like movies, this album has a whole bunch of music videos that together tell the story of the album, they were meant to be pretty cinematic :) there's also an accompanying comic book set ten years later. the techno sound definitely has to do with worldbuilding and setting the tone of the world as a technologically advanced dystopia

This was a complete concept album based on the Killjoy comics written by Gerard Way that was interactive with fans at the time just before and after the album release. We all adopted our own Killjoy names online and watched BLI news reports online with clips and clues as to what the album held for us prior to release. There was a watch party online when the album dropped. Dr. Death Defy was the DJ for the album party on release and it was an entire fan experience. Killjoy Nurse Noise was my name and it was a bonding experience like none other for fans across the world!

This album is definitely out of left field compared to everything else they've done, it's still pretty divisive in the fandom even to this day. They experimented with a lot of electronics and weird guitar effects to steer clear from the generic stuff that the rock industry was pumping out, and I think the resulting sound was just ahead of its time. I personally love it (but I love pretty much everything they make so I'm a very biased party) Bulletproof Heart has been one of my all time favorites lately, the way it builds towards the end and just crescendos into so many layers of guitars and vocals and synths is just *chefs kiss* I agree with you on your opinion on Sing, I think it's a pretty flat song and I usually end up skipping it if it comes on. The bridge slaps though, I'll give it that. Also in the chorus he's saying "sing until you're nuts" although what you heard was pretty funny lmao. Gerard is pretty incomprehensible at the best of times, I'd definitely recommend pulling up the lyrics if you want to know what he's actually saying Planetary(Go!) is definitely a party song. Apparently they had a strobe light on in the studio while they were writing it to get the perfect tempo for jumping going. Also when they played it live on this past tour, they had some pretty sick looking colorful disco lights. It was awesome. The traffic report is supposed to sound like a news report, it falls in line with the concept of the album. It doesn't really have a "story" like their other albums, but the general idea is that it takes place in 2019 in the California desert in a post-nuclear fall out zone. There's a "utopia" called Battery City run by a corporation called Better Living Industries (BLi for short, also written as BL ind aka blind, hehe see what they did there?) that controls *everything.* They control the weather, people's day to day lives, even their emotions, all for the sake of giving its citizens a "better life." But out in the desert, the Killjoys and other rebel groups are out there trying to take down BLi and free all the people in the city. The album itself is just supposed to be a radio broadcast from this world, which is why you get the short little interludes of the radio host (Dr. D) giving news updates or introducing songs and whatnot. Like other people in the comments have mentioned, if you want more story out of this world I'd definitely recommend reading the comics! Also in line with the concept of this album, the band put out an EP called Mad Gear and the Missile Kid that is supposed to be music from a band in this universe. It's short, sweet, and full of the energy of their previous albums while still having the dirty fun that Danger Days brings. I'm glad you're giving the rest of the album a chance, I'd say there are less electronics in the second half and there are some bangers coming up that I think you'll like. One of the b-sides on this album, Zero Percent, is also one of my all time favorites from them and I'm so sad that its not officially on the album because it goes *hard* Anyways sorry for leaving you an essay again, can't wait for the next video! Edit: One more thought, sorry! A lot of the "electronic" things you hear in the background of these songs are actually guitars with some super weird effects on them! Of course there's some synths in there too but it's kind of cool to think about how much they really experimented with their instruments. There's a couple videos floating around somewhere on yt where Ray and Frank talk about what effects they used for different songs and how they came together, and more about how they like to structure songs and guitar parts in general. If you manage to find it (I can't remember what the videos are called right now, sorry!) it's really interesting to hear about their process for building songs

The comic that goes with this album is really quite good and worth a read. I love this album for what it is. It has some very high points. (Destroya and Planetary - the song they made to piss off crusty rock dudes.) I know that you have already said that you will react to both Bullets and Conventional Weapons so I am just going to cosign that! They are both worth your time. Bullets is more post-hardcore with very metal guitar work by Ray. Conventional Weapons is the album that they literally threw away before recording this and, honestly, I love it. The songs are VERY punk or VERY pop and were better than what most bands were releasing as singles at the time. Fun fact that no one has shared yet: The music videos (Which I just *know* you will get around to!) for Na na na na and Sing were co-directed by Gerard and feature a legendary comic book writer.

One thing that I believe makes MCR so unique is the fact that they are basically just geeks that happen to make great music. Being a geek myself... That is part of what drew me in. They love storytelling and Scifi...lol Gerard is a master of storytelling, which is proven by the concept albums the band put out. Each telling a full story through the songs. . According to my son, there is actually a comic from Gerard that tells the story that takes place in this album. Gerard went on to write and ilistrate The Umbrella Academy comic which was eventually made into a TV series.

If you want to react to any music the members did when the band was broken up from 2013-2019, I recommend either Hesitant Alien by Gerard Way or Stomachaches by Frank Iero. Stomachaches (and the rest of Frank's discography) is good because Frank's vocals, which almost sound desperate and pleading in the context of some of the songs, are what really drive the lyrics home and create a stellar album (in my opinion).

I can't believe he thought that a band like MCR would write a lyric like "sing it 'til you nut," that is just so-- *remembers that Vampire Money and Destroya exist* ... That's valid, honestly.

I like 2 or 3 songs of this album, anyway it's interesting to see the evolution of mcr. In their last song published in 2022 they recover the style of the very beggining and that is great!. (pls react the first album also ^^)

If you listen to Gerard Way's solo stuff you realize how much Ray Toro's guitar adds. Way's solo stuff good too, but like you said, Toro's guitar is underrated.

Just randomly clicked because part 2 popped up in my recs and I wanted to see the first part before that. Danger Days is my favourite MCR album (although it really depends on my mood lol.) I still haven't watched the whole 1st part but I do want to say that Ray Toro is criminally underrated and it could be a combination of as a band member he has only worked with MCR since they formed in 2001, and again possibly because MCR themselves were somewhat unacknowledged and not seen as a "true" band by older punk fans because most of their fans were girls.

A recommendation of another album to listen to! I think you should listen to mcr's first album I Brought You My Bullets Your Brought Me Your Love, it has a bit more raw feel and definitely compares more to Three Cheers. I don't know if anyone's already said this but it's an amazing album! Side note- this is my favorite album from mcr even though most of the other fans think it's one of their weakest

This album has some interesting stories this album was written after they scrapped the album before this called the paper kingdom they scrapped the paper kingdom album after it became to depressing and they were not depressed so they wrote this album and released some of the paper kingdom years later as a bunch of demos called the conventional weapon EPs. I would also reccomend the b sides from the albums you have checked out my way home is through you being my personal fav

I think The Paper Kingdom was the scrapped 5th album they were going to do before they broke up. They had a bunch of domos for it but none of them were released. Although I have heard that 'Fake Your Death' was a reworking of one of the songs. The Conventional Weapons EP was another scrapped album, but the demos for it came from earlier around 2007-2008. Evidenced by 'The World Is Ugly' there is a live demo version floating around on KZbin it's musically slightly harder than the CW version and it has different lyrics such as it lacks that lyrical intro. So it goes goes Black Parade > Conventional Weapons/Scrapped Album 1 > Danger Days > Paper Kingdom/Scrapped Album 2. The Paper Kingdom is known to be ultra depressing though. A rumour was that it about a support group of parents that had witnessed their child die. And the narrative played out like a dark retelling of Peter Pan.

Whereas "Bullets" is raw and underproduced, "Danger Days" feels commercial and overproduced. It's not bad and even the most commercial "pop" songs are better than your normal pop songs. For instance, "Sing" was super popular on the radio, but it might be the least liked by their fans
