Thats a mellotron on Exit Music not a real choir, good catch. The insane thing about this album is that almost each song is going to be a favourite of certain fans. The soundscape of this album is so deep that many of these songs will bring you back even if the first listen it doesn't feel that way (Let Down). Also I'm seeing a lot of people come back to this album beacuse simply put it's crucially relevant to the times and will continue to do so in the upcoming era.

it's always interesting to me hearing people's first reaction to let down. it seems like everyone feels that it's kind of just okay (relative to the rest of the album, that is) at first but then later comes to like it as one of the best on the album. it's somewhat odd because it's not like the chorus or verses are so complex that they go over everybody's head; i think it's just a lot of subtleties within the song that make it super beautiful the more you listen to it.

I was 14 when this album came out. I remember listening to it and being absolutely blown away. There was nothing even remotely close to this sound in 97. I have argued that this is their best album for years, and I'm glad that after 26 years people are finally giving this album the respect it deserves. I think this album needed to marinate so people could see just how ahead of it's time this album was. I love the galactic sounds throughout the album.

Yes. They were in LA and their manager sent them out to the trendy clubs of the day to be seen among “the beautiful people”. As you can imagine, they didn’t fit in and it didn’t go well - RH wasn’t built to play the fame game. One particularly painful moment for Thom was getting blown off by a hot model with a short, choppy hairdo 😉

I really started to love this album when I understood the meaning and context of each song, the amount of little details here is crazy, mini musical metaphors that add a lot to the meaning like blip blops in the end of let down that imitate the collapse of a machine, or how Thom yorke sings about surviving a car crash in the opener song ‘airbag’ and in the final song ‘The tourist’ he says to past version of himself ‘hey man slow down’

@@nachobusinezzreacts Its totally fine to have those reactions. Let Down honestly took me a few years from when I had first listened to OKC to when I started to strongly enjoy it and the same goes for many of their songs that the fans love, like "Nude" from In Rainbows which I can now see why is a top tier song but took me a while. For Let Down I find the built up to the cathartic end and the lush soundscape that comes with the outro to be most addicting, and is what eventually hooked me. But not everyone is bound to like these songs first go, or ever.

Let down went unnoticed for me the first several times I listened to the album, but it has since become my favorite track of all time of any album or band. It's so apparently simple but has a million of complex subtleties that one doesn't really notice at first. The 5/4 time signature of the electric guitars against the 4/4 of the rest of elements, with all the subtle harmonic changes that it entails, all the amount of layering, the beautifully sad lyrics, vocal harmonies, the other-wordly climax of the song, the twinkling computer bleeps on both the left and right channels and how they contrast against the acoustic guitar during the outro, superimposing the human and the digital. All of which contributes to the emotional impact without feeling over the top. It's a masterpiece, but needs a bit of time to be appreciated

Exit Music (For a Film) was written for the 1996 movie Romeo and Juliet w/ Leonardo Di Caprio. While Radiohead were on tour with Alanis Morissette, Baz Luhrmann, who directed the movie, sent them a tape of the last part of the film and asked them to write some music for the closing credits (hence the name "exit music").

Paranoid android was 3 different songs coming into one but the feeling is the same it's the anxiety from being around people who are so deep into their own bs and superficial phony crap reaching it's most alarming moment when Yorke witnesses that woman losing her shit when someone spilled a drink on her . The entire chaos is happening with some looking and some going about their business normalizing something he feels is abnormal.

Well now you have to listen to their follow up album Kid A. OKC made a huge splash in the music world when it came out and everyone was wondering if Radiohead could do it again. Kid A surprised everybody by not only proving that OKC wasn't a fluke, but because it was also so different. Releasing Kid A after OKC was one of those special unique moments in music that had people talking. You can recreate some of that for yourself if you've never heard the two albums. Listen to OKC first (as you've done), let it marinate for a bit and get familiar with it, then listen to Kid A. The drastic turn in sound with no loss in the quality of the music is a very cool and interesting experience. It's part of what made Radiohead such a big deal and gave them the reputation that they have.

The sound at the beginning of Paranoid Android is a digital metronome. If you were in a DAW and had it set up to do a one bar countdown before recording, that’s what you’d hear.

your description of the tracks is weird? it has 2 guitars at the same time but on different tempos, you cant sing to it.. and saying that the chord progressions are simple is just wrong, they are super complex and many songs change tempos midway using really unusual time signatures like 1/7 or 1/5, lots of sus chords and leftfield but they make it sound natural, hence why you think its simple.

Best way I think to describe Radiohead, is existential crisis in musical form. A great many of their tracks are based off of the bands experiences and observations, whether regarding their rise to fame and musical careers, personal experiences, like with the track Airbag, being about an auto wreck that Tom Yorke was in, or about society as a whole with tracks like No Surprises and Fake Plastic Trees off their album The Bends. Another album that's definitely worth a listen, one of the greatest aspects of going through their discography is hearing their incredible evolution and experimentation.

Dude, Let Down is possibly the best and most musically complex songs that Radiohead has ever written (and possibly one of the most complex pop/rock songs ever written). The genius is in how you don't notice. Just try and follow the guitar paterns as they layer and fit in to the rhythm, it's nearly impossible to do in your head. Its not a hit on society at the time, its a hit on society now, what we have become, over-reliant on tech, addicted to social media with non-existent attention spans, out for ourselves... hes describing NOT wanting to become that, and they wrote it in 1997 !!! when 90% of people didn't even have a home Internet connection and if they did it was 56k dial-up !! They seen it coming and warned us ! Look, I'm not going to be over critical of some of your reaction and how you interpret it but you are missing so much... Most Radiohead albums (if not all of them) are so textured the they need a few listens, you were missing intricit (sic?) guitar work with 3 guitars going at once and playing all around each other, you were also confusing a lot of Jonnys guitar as keyboards, synths or just noises, you will pick up on them if you listen a couple of more times. This album becomes more rewarding the more times you hear it, thats the mark of a classic, because of that it stands the test of time. I enjoyed your reaction, I wll defo be back for part 2. 👍

And i was thinking that he was talking about the future and saw it coming but I wasn’t sure cause that’s very strange and uncommon for people in general to be able to do. Let me tell you… they did it PERFECTLY. I almost didn’t believe it was released before the 2000s. Once again, I appreciate you criticism and I’ll be soon you soon I’m part 2. Much love!😁🫶

CHILLLLLL LOL! Check out part 2! I went back to listen to it again and it had a lot of replay value. Sometimes I need a few replays to really catch the vibe of it. I’m glad that you watched the video tho, we all got different opinions. 😁🫶

@@nachobusinezzreacts I'm just playing. I think it took around 3 years before that song finally sunk in for me. Then I thought it was like this weird little song that only I thought was such a masterpiece until I found the endless meme of "let down is underrated" so ur still ahead of me if you're getting there on second listen. Granted I was 16 at the time, but still :)

it's a good album but they have better ones : In Rainbows, Kid A. It's a bit overrated if you ask me.

Fun fact: Any piece of popular media is overrated. There will always be that group of people that rate something more than it deserves

@@ayamurayama3961 i guess it's all a matter of taste in the end, i never really connected with this one. I even prefer The Bends.

Just started, 20 seconds in... Ok Computer is my all time favorite album. And I'm definitely not the biggest Radiohead fan. For me, the most incredible hour of music I've ever heard.
