I wasn't even part of the 'emo' movement, or anything even close. I simply thought this band had some of the greatest instrumentation & theatrics I've ever heard. It blows my mind to this day that people could call any of MCR's music "shitty" or "uninspired".

When asked about being labeled emo, Way responded: "Basically, it's never been accurate to describe us. Emo bands were being booked while we were touring with Christian metal bands because no one would book us on tours. I think emo is fucking garbage, it's bullshit. I think there's bands that unfortunately we get lumped in with that are considered emo and by default that starts to make us emo. All I can say is anyone actually listening to the records, put the records next to each other and listen to them and there's actually no similarities." But tell us how you really feel, Gerard? "I think emo's a pile of shit." MCR is not emo

EDIT: Bro, this comment is 5 years old, how am I still getting replies? EDIT 2: 7 years later and somehow this comment is still getting attention. 6.2k likes on something I typed on a whim as a teen who didn’t know how to explain his feelings all to well is wild. Since then I’ve listened to this song live and let me tell you something: it was worth the COVID. I'm pretty sure this song is the Patient talking to his mother after the events of Mama, where she said that the death of his brother was his fault and he tells her to leave and maybe attempts suicide because the idea of never waking up is too painful to him, he just wants to get it over with.

My dad lived through the 60's, he was part of the stoner hippie movement and has seen so many classic rock bands in concert. He accompanied me and my bff at the time to an MCR concert during this era and it was the greatest night of my Life. My dad said that it was one of the best shows he's ever seen. It was so theatrical, he's said. Gerard coming out on a stretcher was awesome. He loved it when he thought it was gonna suck

this song is so incredibly cathartic to me as an ICU nurse who worked through the pandemic and has some trauma from that. the beginning when he talks about his terrors, the lyrics "a drink for the horror that i'm in", just wanting to sleep, the end when he sees flames and people he loves dying, and that he can't ever wake up. his visceral screams at the end. that's how i felt the past 2 years. i'm glad i'm on the other side now but this song always brings back those emotions. i love it so much.

This song used to scare the crap out of me. The first time i heard it was on an iPod nano i found at a vintage shop, when i bought it, after it charged i saw it was already loaded with a ton of music i liked at the time from the previous owner, stuff like blink 182, taking back sunday, my chemical romance, etc. And one night i fell asleep with only 1 ear bud in while it was playing. I hadn't heard the black parade album in its entirety at the time yet. I was waken up in the middle of the night and Sleep was playing but since i had only 1 earbud in, i could only hear the beginning dialogue without the piano, and i thought someone was plotting out side of my door through walkie talkies, then the drums kicked in and i was so relieved

I just want them to come back together. They have left so many if their fans in tears. I won't feel complete with my life if I never get to see them live or see them in another interview or see them upload a new song or at least see them hugging in a picture. MCR, if you guys or at least one of you guys somehow magically read this, please, fucking PLEASE get back together.

I suffer from anxiety and sleep paralysis and I CAN HEAVILY RELATE TO THIS SONG. I don't know what the true meaning behind this song is but , it hit me. Sometimes when I sleep my mind wakes up before my body and I paralysed and it's so FRIGHTENING. Once it got so severe that my body forgot to breathe and I was SUFFOCATING. I'm so glad I didn't die. MR Gerard way I can so RELATE to this song.

This song is truly one of the best songs I have ever heard in my entire life. The way the guitar, the piano, the drums, all of it just blends perfectly. The emotion that they captured in this song is just so raw and pure that it riles me up every time I listen to it. The lyrics hold such a deep meaning, but even if you weren't paying attention to them you would still love the song. I genuinely cannot believe that some people don't like this...

This is by far the best song on the album. The variation in syncopation of the vocals, the insane build up, and the style fitting in more with their previous albums. It just hits SO HARD. Amazing track, even nearly 20 years later.
