I remember reading an interview with their drummer that he failed recording this song like 20 times (he was doing all the songs in one take) so he literally went outside and did donuts in the parking lot to clear his head and then got it right when he came back. You can literally hear the frustration in his playing through this entire song. Just those 4 cymbal hits at the beginning just scream "FUCK, FUCK, FUCK, FUCK"

I love the angry tone Gerard uses when singing this song. It feels so intense, but when he says "so I can't hurt you anymore!" for the second time the anger in his voice turns to pure rage followed by the genuinely scary sounding "and now, you wanna see how far down I can sink, let me go" Then goes straight into a more peaceful yet still angry tone with the next part before absolutely exploding in rage and anger for the final chorus. Fucking phenomenal.

"I'm just a ghost, so I can't hurt you anymore" I love that lyric. I don't really know how to explain but I'm going to try. I'm terrified of hurting people, it's one of my biggest fears. I know in the past I've said bad things (without realising at the time) to people who I'd been friends with for years. I don't talk to them anymore because we're all at different schools, but I still think about it a lot. I always get scared that I'll do something like that again, and that makes me want to not be alive so it doesn't happen. That lyric comforts me, I guess. Sorry for the rant I just needed to put it into writing

No cap those quick strums Frank does in the background really show his NYHC and punk influence and the leads on this album show ray toros classic rock influence. Mikey way sounds like he’s playing 80s ABBA bass, bob Bryars drumming shows off a bit of punk and classic rock. Whereas Gerards vocals sound like they have a little Emo-core/early emo influence, mixed with 70s rock like David Bowie. It’s a weird mix of influences. But I love it so much!!!!

2:30 this single breakdown was the gateway drug that finally got me into actual metal. Now that I'm into much heavier stuff than MCR, looking back this is still so damn good.
@renecruz36233 жыл бұрын
could you recommend some bands that have breakdowns like that?
@j.hateshisjob51373 жыл бұрын
@@renecruz3623 are you looking for a similar style of hard rock or heavy metal w/ screaming, growling, etc? My personal journey went from MCR's Three Cheers, Black Parade, and Bullets albums straight into the likes of Slipknot, System of a Down, Mudvayne, Polaris, and some others (Tallah is amazing but shit they are heavy and disgusting, maybe dont start with them lmao). But each of these bands are very different in their own unique ways, that's what is so amazing about exploring new bands and genres. If you're looking for stuff that isn't so intense, honestly there isn't much that I've gotten into that is all too similar to that breakdown. Pierce the Veil would probably be the closest I can think of, but I'd guess you're probably familiar with them already. Ice Nine Kills could be a good place to start, the singer's style reminds me a lot of Fall out Boy, but they can get fairly heavy too with a good mix of hard rock and straight metal. They are definitely a different style than MCR, but you might like them. I'd check them out and Slipknot just because Slipknot is so damn good lol.

My current favourite song on The Black Parade (yes, even more so than *that* one), and a 10/10. There's so much to love here, between the frenetic, ominous riffs, the angry drumming, the venomously self-loathing lyricism, and I especially love the absolutely unhinged boss-music vibes of the metal breakdown at about 2:45 and how the chorus has almost a surf-rock catchiness to it thanks to the instrumentation.

MCR: the band so good, even Gen X loves them. Seriously, MCR lobbed some powerful ear grenades at the public, stuff that better described how we felt than the hair bands of the 80's ever could. The rage, the angst, the disappointment, everything was right there on display like some surreal store window for a place that bought broken promises and pain. Cathartic is too small of a word to describe MCR's music to those of us in need of the release. This band was the massive neon sign for generations to point at and say, "That's how I feel!"

@Nathaniel Phillips OK, I know this is a late reply, but I think you're confusing pop music with popular music. I always kinda liked MCR but i would have never heard this song if not for a random conversation with a random girl on a random discord on an uneventful tuesday. what a fukin great song
@Hilu8D3 жыл бұрын
This has always been one of my favorites from the album. After all these years it still slaps hard. I have this fun experience when my workplace had an after-work event where we went to a place that had minigolf and _anger room_ 😁 You could choose your own music for the anger room. There I was destroying stuff with sledgehammer and with MCR blasting from the sound system. Would recommend!

Put your head down and really listen. The vocals split and it sounds wonderful. The guitars and drums and base all blend perfectly. Really listen to this. It’s even more impressive when you try to follow the parts individually.

I had this crazy dream when I first got this album and listened to this song like a 10000times. About Aliens taking all of humans through mind control but a group of loyal dogs go on a quest to free their humans. I remember most distinctly was at 2:45, they climb over a big hill and see a massive field where aliens are taking humans on their ship, but horrified at the weapons the aliens had, hundreds and thousands of dogs charge the aliens at 2:57 and get absolutely decimated by explosions, guns, but they make it through and win and aliens retreat leaving the humans behind. Everytime I hear this song I wish it was the video clip. Haha I had to share that.

I know this is old but - if you still feel that way: I had a day like that today. I still don't feel completely better but a) if you've got a therapist/coping strategies you can do - they helped a little (if not, KZbin 'butterfly hug' for a little, portable technique). b) Even if no-one can be with you right now, please take my comment as proof (three weeks into the future and from London) - you still have the potential to not be alone, not to go unheard, not to go uncared for. You do matter and you can extend beyond this momentary suffering - to other people and into the transcendence of good art. I hope that helped.
