One thing I can appreciate with this movie that I couldn't as a child was the subtle father/son relationship Merlin and Arthur had. Ector was his foster father, yes, but he didn't know how to be a parent, hence the chores and scolding. Merlin became Arthur's teacher, guide, protector, and, therefore, a kind of parental figure. When I watched this film the other day for the first time since I was a kid, whe Merlin came back from Bermuda, I wanted Arthur to run up to him and hug him, telling him how glad he was he was back.

Fun (and also relieving) fact: Merlin is straight up wrong about squirrels mating for life, they actually take on multiple partners throughout their 5-year lifespan. Although, I highly suspect that Merlin only said this to freak out Arthur. But I wouldn't worry about the red squirrel, she'll move on.

@@ThatSexyNerdReacts I don’t think he was credited, but I happen to know that he was working at Disney around this time because I read somewhere that he had pitched the idea of Disney doing an adaptation of Chanticleer and the Fox, which got turned down in favor of this movie. 🧐 Then nearly 30 years later, Don Bluth finally got to make a movie out of that story, which became known as Rock-A-Doodle.

FYI, Critic made the mistake of using the Blu-ray footage for this review, and this happens to be one of the worst restorations of all the Disney movies! 😣 Luckily, the Disney+ version, and all of the older DVD releases are much better! 😌

@@ThatSexyNerdReacts pausing is ok if something is really funny and you need a moment to laugh. Or something is just crazy and you need a second to process and react. But generally unless it is one of these, or you have an interesting insight, it is best not to pause. I see some reactors pause like every 30 seconds and I can't stand them. I'm not trying to knock what you do at all, I'm just giving my opinion. I'm sure you will find what you feel right. : )

The owl Archimedes is voiced by Junius Matthews, the original voice of Rabbit from Winnie-the-Pooh. Also, this was the first Disney film the Sherman brothers did songs for.

Having not seen this film in such a long time, I looked up that they actually hired several different actors to voice Arthur to make it sound like he was going through puberty when his voice changes. (something I never noticed since before seeing the film as the trailers I watched seemed to have Arthur sound the same)

Hey at last Sexy Nerd, and from me "Xavier" or "Danny". After I checking out that Garfield stuff and with me binge watching through the other ones in your playlist, that I'm loving your great and funny reactions around here. Of course, that I can't wait for all of us to both see and hear more from you. Well, so far, that I don't mind with both as much of pausing that you're doing now in these videos, and with as much as you do say during them, yes. Simply put, that even though I had never gotten into this movie as much as others do and it seems that I maybe never will, that I do even now still like and appreciate it after all, yeah. Also, that I fully admit that the single movie that I had a bit of an obsession with when that I was younger is actually "Care Bears Movie 1", and a few of my family members can attest to that, since that I tried to watch that certain VHS tape once every day. Also, that I do hope that the Nostalgia Critic also goes with the past classic Disney movies, that yep "Lady & The Tramp" would be a great idea for him as well, and that it would be even more interesting about it, since that after a long time that I had finally checked out the 2019 remake of that movie, even though that it's meant to be a Disney+ exclusive, and I'm also glad that they didn't totally stick to the storyline of the original, and so that it wasn't a "carbon copy" of the original, like apparently that "Lion King" was, ugh. Lastly, that if you truly don't mind the rest of us giving you of ideas of others in KZbin that you can react to later on, like both maybe with "Scott The Woz" and definitely with "Watchmojo", that I can at least help you out with my short enough list, in the meantime, of the other ones from those guys at Watchmojo, huh on any of this, friend :^)? >Danny
