I’m not gonna go into detail either, but just wanted to let you know from one CSA survivor to another that I know how hard this was for you, and it is honestly nice to know we’re not alone, so thank you! Edit: i’ve been avoiding this book because of what I went through, but honestly, this video has been so cathartic that I am thinking about picking up the book! Thank you again for making this video, I haven’t been able to talk to many people who’ve been through what we have, and that can feel very isolating.

My Dark Vanessa was written as a beautiful story, but once you take away all that romantizing it's horrible. I also read Under the Whispering Door and it was good. You need to continue because Wallis learns a lot about himself and I like how it ends. Give it a try, I listened to the audio book. I'm sorry you to go through all that as a child. You are such a gem and you touch a lot of people in so many ways. You mean so much to all of us. Keep being your authentic self girlfriend. Love you bunches 💜😊

I was also sa by my best friends father when I was younger than went home to my cracked out mother, so my grandma sent me away to Hawaii to get adopted. (She was the only one who cared about me)It is truly one of the hardest things to overcome the trauma because you don’t wanna talk or remember that it had happened. Also some people can make you feel gross or look at you differently if they found out about you😣 so sorry this happened and hope it’s what has made you into such a confident queen!!❤️so crazy how we have all had similar upbringing been reading the comments.

GIRL, *and* your grandma was your best friend??!?! My grandma was my best friend!!!! I wanted her to be the maid of honor at my wedding and everything! Unfortunately, she didn’t make it to my wedding, and I still cry over missing her every single day. I’m sorry I’m leaving so downer comments! I guess that’s the nature of this video? Lol Edit: my therapist calls it “your person”, your person is the person who makes you feel seen/safe/loved fully. Losing your person is traumatic.

3 minutes in… looks to the right of me at my dark Vanessa staring at me. Exposure therapy type of stuff can go one of two ways. Take care of your self!! I am also a survivor of SA! I can relate to the dark humour coping mechanism. Here’s an awkward virtual hug (I hate hugs) 📚💕 I feel like I may cry at this one. I hate seeing people’s mental anguish and pain and just want to help. Part of the reason I got my MHN degree. Take care of yourself, you beautiful human.

Not losing your granny! I was my grannies favourite too. She died February 2019. Absolutely savaged me! She was my everything. The only person I could speak to that withheld judgement, because I’m quite easy to judge. But people are more often than not, wrong. She saw me though. I had a single mum so my granny was my dad essentially. Dang man, this is painful. I only had one more clinical placement to do when she passed. Took me 2 and a half years to finish that one last module of uni. I completely empathise with you though. I’ve met no one since she left me that even compares. It’s a very lonely place to be.

You dont have to tell us what happened, but rememeber there are many people who will support you. i dont know you personally but watching your videos helps me a lot with my anxieties and my stupid brain. you make me laugh, you make me smile. i really appreciate you and your work as a creator, so i just wanted to say thank you Jordaline.

When you started talking about my dark Vanessa a song popped into my head which was "it happened Quiet" by Aurora especially when you described the sleep over part? I haven't read it so I don't know how accurate this song is but it is about SA and I think being in denial because every chorus ends with love is wild and it's anything but love. If you haven't heard it before, I recommend it and all of Auroras music.

I too had trauma that should have given me pause before reading My Dark Vanessa, and yet I went in full tilt because "that girl don't love herself" (best Scary Movie quote ever!). I was lying in my bed listening to the audiobook when it got to the scene you called out and I just sobbed. I even teared up hearing you read it. I knew the exact spot you were going to read when you said "there was one scene" because anyone who has survived SA or CSA knows that struggle. The illusion of control. Also, I laughed all the way through Eric's song because that was 5 full minutes of movie theater CRINGE. The amount of embarrassment I felt for that actor was sad and hilarious all at the same time. Poor guy. I hope he got some good coin out of that cause Yeesh! AND I WAS SO PISSED ABOUT LES POISSONS TOO!! WTF was that with the Eric song but no LP!?! Fail. Just to keep this next bit hidden due to spoilers... Additionally, (and lightheartedly) I have survived the minor trauma of forcing myself to finish Under the Whispering Door when I should have DNF'd that ish. If you love a story where the message of accepting death as a part of life is hammered over and over and over to the point of nauseam - and then (spoilers) the MC magically gets to be undead and actually doesn't have to accept death at all - pick it back up and enjoy. It was a waste of time for me. Accept death everybody... Oh not you, Wallace - you don't have to. You get a fairytale ending. Gross.

It might be fun to have your cats choose your tbr. I think you may have done something like this in the past, but I know Mara from BooksLikeWhoa does. She lets each cat pick a book and then it’s a “competition” to see which cat picked the better book. She even keeps score. It’s cuter than I’m making it sound 😅 Also, thank you for this video and respecting your boundaries in regards to what was shared.

It definitely sounds like this is not Jacob's first rodeo. I own My Dark Vanessa but I haven't read it. The belief by the victim that the experience was consensual is why so many of these predators are able to get away with their abuse. I think that so many times by the time these young girls realize what is going on they feel so stupid and ashamed that they don't tell anyone. Very wise of you not to share your experience. Followers on KZbin, as well intended as they may be, are not trained to give advice on this topic. They can sympathize and empathize but are not the best source for dealing with this kind of trauma.

I read a lot of horror, but this is still the most disturbing book I've ever read. Maybe I need to re-read it (I listened to it the first time), but I felt like it was NOT romanticized. Especially when she describes him (I think when she is in college), she knows he is gross and not attractive....but at this point, this is what she knows and a pattern she returns to. This book is so, so raw
