I'm reading Chlorine by Jade Song for the nuerodivergent prompt. It's about a girl who believes she's turning into a mermaid and that turns into body horror

The minute you said he was f*ing a pig, all I could think of was “squeal like a piggggg” You’ll either understand that reference or you won’t but I’m hella laughing.

You can totally tell when a man writes extreme horror. I should've dnfed cows for the same reason because it was triggering.

I read First Day of Spring because Katie Colton sold me on it in a year end wrap up video a couple of years ago. It’s written by a child psychologist. I feel like it gives a balanced look at mental health and would fit the neurodivergent prompt. There’s horror but like real life shit you would find horrific mixed with the sad realities of life. Don’t take my word for it though! Ask Katie! It was a 5 star read.

I actually loved They All Died Screaming. Dont get me wrong, it was disgusting in so many ways but I'm so glad I read it. Surprisingly, to me anyway, there were multiple scenes where it seemed Kristopher Triana was actually being quite female positive. For example a man called a woman a slut. The other man basically said "if she's a slut, so am I. Why is it ok for me but not her?" I had been wanting to read Reception for a while but maybe ill skip it. I love your cozy apartment 🙂.

I Was thinking "she needs to read reception" and you did. It's a great book pretty crazy. I also have the same thing I find it hard to listen to a audiobook if it's a male doing the storytelling.

I’ve read Reception before and also loved it until the ending. It felt like the author didn’t know how to end it. SPOILER Basically it was all a hallucination by the mentally ill main character who really did eat her sister on her wedding day. It felt like that “it was all a dream” cop out and I hated it 😂

So far I’ve read Black Sheep by Rachel Harrison (had fun), There’s No Way I’d Die First by Lisa Springer (hated it lol), and The Devil Takes You Home by Gabino Iglesias for the book you’re afraid to read prompt (liked it???). Currently reading Benny Rose, the Cannibal King by Hailey Piper, and then I’m gonna start Rouge by Mona Awad.

Oh you so have to write that! I am so curious about that book now, surprisingly the ending of my cannibal book, The Hunger, also left me like uhhhh what?! I did find some new favs during the readathon, but Into the Drowning Deep with Our Wives Under the Sea, and Plain Bad Heroines was not like a smart choice 😅

I dnfed they all died screaming too. I didn't like that book at all. I gave extreme horror a break and got into carlton mellick. The character development in the books I read by him were awesome. The cuddly holocaust was so good

this book disappointed me because i LOVED full brutal; it’s the only extreme horror book i’ve given 5 stars. i’m still gonna read Kristopher Triana and see id i like his other stuff more, but dang what a letdown after the insane ride that was full brutal.

I DNF'd "They All Died Screaming". It wasn't too disturbing for me it was just stupid. I didn't care about any of the characters, it was unnecessarily gross and I could tell I wasn't going to like it

I'm interested in extreme horror, but haven't been able to find anything that appeals to me yet. I feel like a lot of male authors just use that subgenre as an outlet to project their own violent, misogynist, fascist, etc. views unfortunately. :(

I love books from a guy's POV more. And then I'm like I'm not a man but maybe I resonate with not feeling oppressed or some s*it I don't know I just feel that guy's POV is just the most general/unencumbered
