Hi, lovely flock of hens...I can see the love you have for them. I wanted to share with you something that you might know already, Roosters will protect their flock from everything... to Him you are a big rooster too, so He is only taking care of his girls. I had a rooster named Tico, I hatch him in an incubator. When he was fully grown I had him with 6 girls, the girls were very docile and used to eat out of my hands and let me pet them, He would look at me kind of funny, one day I was changing the water container He jumped on me, scared the daylights out of me. He was jealous... imagine I still loved him...did not get cooked.

I loved your video. I have never been a fan of birds but since I got my chickens.... haha They are so funny! I love Elaine. Thank you for sharing.

I'm with you on the pullets only!!! Those few cents you save on a straight run aren't worth the aggravation of having to deal with cockerels later on.

You should get a 5 gallon bucket of sanded latex stucco finish coat and a small roller and give that old osb coop as many coats as are in the bucket, letting it dry between each. It's about $40, but it'll make like a hard rubber shell over what you have there.

Tater's a great looking bird. When his days are done, his cape could be worth a pretty penny to a fly tier.

I found out that every hatchery has a proprietary mix of chicken breeds that they name "cinnamon queen" so check the blend when you order.

@Samuel Webb My rooster used to be in with the flock of Barred Rocks full time, but he would try to attack me every time I would enter the pen to collect the eggs so now I have him separated. I will let him back in periodically but not full time.

I'm thinking of getting some cinnamon Queens for my granddaughter. How are the hens around children, and she is very independent so are the birds easy to care for?
@tapq4 жыл бұрын
The Cinnamon Queens are fine around kids but the don't like to be handled. If the kids are going to want to pick them up and hold them I would recommend Barred Plymouth Rocks. Chickens are pretty easy to care for though. Once you have an area setup for them, it's really just a matter of keeping them supplied with food and fresh water. I hope that helps.

I see that this was 3 years ago, how did the Cinnamon Queen chickens do at laying, egg count, size, and ect? I also live in South Carolina and am thinking of ordering some of the Cinnamon Queens next spring. Thanks George
@tapq6 жыл бұрын
They were excellent in every way. They produced a ton of large brown eggs. You can't go wrong with Cinnamon Queens.

I love your setup! I wish I was that skilled with building things...might have to start lol I currently use dog run kennels for outside and just doubled them up and fortified them so no raccoons or other meanies can reach in. Did you draw a plan of sorts first that you might be able to share with us? I love the fact that you can walk in and it's tall enough for an adult without having to duck and crouch around...it makes cleaning a heck of a lot easier! Please let me know if you have any old plans laying around you would be willing to share :)

Hi there! I have a question I hope another cinnamon queen owner could answer. I bought "all" pullets about 5 weeks ago. One "pullet" had a much bigger and redder comb and wattle than the rest. Can cinnamon queen roosters be the same color as the hens? I thought CQ rooster were all white or white with just a little brown but this one is all brown.
@tapq8 жыл бұрын
Your bird is most likely not a rooster. Some of my girls had the same issue, with larger combs and wattles and I thought as you did that they might be males. But it turned out that wasn't the case. They were females that just happened to have larger combs and wattles. Let me know how it turns out!

I didn't watch the video all the way, but what happened to Elaine? I wonder if because of her size that she might be pecked to death. I've never seen a three-legged chicken before.
@tapq9 жыл бұрын
+Michael Vuong Elaine is doing fine. She is about the same size as the other hens now. Her head wobbles left to right like she has Parkinsons or something, but otherwise she's doing great. Thanks for the comment.

Nice job with video. How is Elaine doing? How about Tater. I agree, no SR for me, just better to get them all sexed and not have to re- home roo's. Hoping to start chickens in spring. Used to raise ducks.
@hardcorehunter91556 жыл бұрын
do you sell eggs or what? Thats a shitload of eggs for just a family, even giving away a bunch thats alot. We have 10 layers and a few roos and even at that it's more than we can eat..my cousin has about 1800 but he obviously sells alot
