BECCA Safety warning: those propane canisters are NOT designed to be laid down on their side. There are special ones for that but the tops and the values are different. Laying them on their side east to west can cause a vacuum explosion, seriously. I love ❤ ya girl, just wouldn't feel right not having told ya about that. Stay safe always. Hugs!

I’ve done a few van camping and truck camping testing gear when I lived in Maine, I would suggest getting a wool blanket, military wool. It would work well as a base on your Mattress and would hold heat. It’s always a good reliable back up for a base blanket. Always building a winter travel Kit to stay warm and safe. Maybe do a video with a winter emergency kit if you get stranded etc etc.

I once went fishing when it was so cold it took hours for the stove to unthaw our frozen chili. We did catch some pike though twenty years later my parents built a house a mile away from that spot. My coldest time was sleeping in the back of an uninsulated truck for a month at a resort. It was at least 30 below every night. That is why I have years worth of rent money saved

I'm a subscriber that has lived in a van for the past year. I've used my buddy heater during sleep consistently when it's cold. As long as you have cross ventilation and a carbon monoxide detector it's completely safe. At least from my personal experience.

Great Video! I am in the Foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains. We are old.. I keep 2 ECWSS (Military Extreme Cold Weather Sleep Systems) in the back of the truck for freezing emergency's. The truck has a "BedRug" bed liner and a carpeted Leer topper. The ECWSS is rated for -40 (with proper layering). My next modification will be the Reflectx that will be lined (glued to) with speaker box carpet. If you do the Reflectx mod, the lined pieces will give a much better "R" value. The carpeted liner when NOT against windows (the carpet keeps the Reflectx insulated from the glass) will not get conduction through the glass.

Get yourself those disposable hand/feet warmers and fill your socks & gloves when you sleep and you can use them in your pants/shirt! I watch several people who live full time in their vehicles who swear about those disposables! Also if you tuck your head under your blankets and breath your hot air & it will help you warm up! I’m from Michigan so I learned a bunch of tips to keep warm in those frigid winters 😊

Well winter is coming lol I don’t know if anyone is told you or you already have one would be a propane filter for your Mr. buddy. When you use those hoses from a tank, they leak an oil that ruins the Mr. buddy heater. Propane filter is recommended.

Not sure if people realize how the wind chill works and effects different things, but if you are "out of the wind" there is zero wind chill effect on your body👍. So let's say if it's -2°F with a wind chill of -40°F and you are in the back of a closed truck your body is experiencing -2°F not -40°F. The wind chill only affects non-protected parts of your body exposed to the wind. For example if you are outside at -2°F with a -40°F wind chill and your "entire body" was covered with windproof clothing which is commonly sold you would be experiencing -2°F and not the -40°F. If you are outside with clothing that isn't 100% windproof but let say 25% windproof you would be experiencing some of the wind chill value but not all. Now if you're outside with no clothing at that wind-chill🥶, that's just crazy😳, and probably illegal😉, but it would feel like -40°F. Another common misconception is wind-chill doesn't effect the temperature of inanimate objects like a motor on a vehicle. Example: its -2°F with a -40°F wind chill and you use a laser thermometer gun and take the temperature of your engine block it would be -2°F (not -40°F) as long as it wasn't running or still holding on to previous heat. Hope this might clear up some confusion for someone. ✌️❤️

Wow! cool, you did it, you stayed out in the back of your truck with only a small propane heater. I cheated when I stayed in my car when it was this cold, but I kept the car running all night with a carbon monoxide alarm, and the next time I had an industrial electric heater. It was so cold her about a month ago (alberta canada), that I left my car running continuesly for three days straight. Don't you find that it's almost next to impossible to sleep when it is this cold?
