Extreme Cold Weather Truck Camping with Multiple Heat Sources

This week we traveled to the beautiful Cascade Falls State Park on the Minnesota North Shore. The temperatures dipped down below freezing this week in a large portion of the country. If I stayed around home, I was going to be dealing with -35 degrees, so I chose to find warmer temps on the shores of Lake Superior. The big body of water helped keep the daytime temps in the single digits below zero. The weather channel was forecasting low temperatures around -20 degrees but the coldest we saw was -15 degrees. The winds kept the Windchill value around -30 degrees all weekend. I was able to find shelter from the wind tucked in the trees while out on our hike. Cascade River State Park has some amazing views and beautiful waterfalls.
Mandi and Tilli joined me this week! Mandi finally agreed to a small appearance in this week's video. I think we are finally making some progress with seeing Mandi being more involved in the channel.

Ohhh cascade! Our favorite state park! Love that little community building. Hi Mandy! Great to see you. Hi Tilly, from our rotty-lab, Indy who also loves to camp. It was a cold one!!!! We were out of town for the grandkids.....but now wonder of you weren't there as we drove by on 61. I saw my favorite BIG pine in one of your shots. The falls are running really good this winter. You guys really got the privacy this weekend at a normally busy park. And again....that tripod....I think we need to invest in that cover!

Back a few years ago I ran out of propane in the middle of the night with the fifth wheel at deer camp, thankfully we had electric heater, but it was around 5 degrees outside and only about 38 inside. Thankfully the electric blanket kept me warm. Lol moral of the story, always check your tanks!!!!

I agree! I told Mandi it wasn't the same ending the video that way! It sucks that I was able to show proper documentation and licenses to play that song in my videos, but KZbin didn't care. They gave the money I made on my last video with that song to a company that said it was theirs. My next step was hiring a lawyer, so I said forget it....thats why the song isn't there anymore. It's stupid how KZbin handles copyright claims. Anyone can tell KZbin they own the rights to a song. KZbin automatically believes that person and requires the content creator to provide proof of ownership. And if the complaint believes they still are the rightful owners, it's sent to arbitration. The complaint is not responsible for showing any proof. Anyone can make a copyright claim on any KZbin video.

I have not been up to Cascade SP in decades. DW insists on electric when cold weather camping. We have an electric mattress pad hand run the 1500 watt ceramic heater. I keep it on the stove top, and have a small DC fan that helps distributes the heat through our TT. I put a 5000btu heat strip in the AC unit. Bit noisy but between the two, I use very little propane. The DW likes the white noise. Thanks for posting.

I liked taking my truck camper out every month. State would always plow out several sites, one morning awoke to the furnace running every 5 minutes, the ceramic heater I used usually was all I'd need, discovered it was -12°, that explained why the furnace was active. I took one of our dachshunds when camping, they loved it. Truck camper has everything but floor space.

Just a tip: Make sure next time you stay anywhere there is electricity you use a Surge Protector on the end of your electric cord just in case the parks electricity has surges, so it wont damage your camper's Electrical. Beautiful Waterfalls there, glad your brought your family along this time.

Yes. You are 100% correct. I don't have much experience with them. Can I get away with buying a cheaper surge protector? Or is it an item that you get what you pay for. I have never run with one.

@@KennyOfAllTrades you get what you pay for. The best type are EMS type, they with shut the power off before you have an issue. A surge only protects against a surge, like from a lightning strike. EMS will protect you from almost any electrical issues, such as surges, open grounds, reverse polarity, high or low voltage.

We really enjoy your videos and have seen each at least twice. They're great! We camp in our Travato and have camped up your way in MN several times. We were wondering if you'd consider having a reservation weekend with some other campers (like us) just to talk, share stories, fish, Bigfoot spotting, etc. Maybe in the late Spring or Fall. Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you are hearing the call from nature too! Life is short, and there's a HUGE chunk of land to explore. For years, I watched my favorite RV KZbin channels traveling the country. I always said, "One day, when I retire, I'm going to travel just like them." Then I realized that tomorrow isn't a guarantee. I hope others realize that being a weekend adventurer can be rewarding. Maybe on day I'll have the opportunity to travel full-time. But for now, I'm just like most of the viewers. I got a job, kids, mortgage, bills....going deep into the woods on the weekends is what keeps me sane in our crazy busy world.

Sometime if you go back to this state park, you should try and use the Dutch oven on that wood stove. We have done it a few times on ours at home. Just make sure you put tin foil down and set the Dutch oven on top of it. It’s like a slow cooker though, so give it some time

Been high 70's in daytime - 72 degrees as of right now @ 9 pm. Big difference in temperatures between Minnesota and the Keys.

It is cool seeing them still in service. That's how we make reservations at the campground when the office is not staffed. It's a great because cell phone service can be sketchy at times. It's nice for emergency services too.
