My prized possessions are first editions of each of the six original books. The later books by Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson are good, but Frank Herbert was a sci-fi god.

I don´t know if any of you are interested in this, but I just want mention, that MARVEL did a adaptation of Lynch´s Dune movie. Artist was Bill Sienkiewicz.

Nice vidéo! It would be interesting to see another video discussing the typesetting inside, types of papers and text legibility. I own some of the ace editions and I find some books have different linespacing, different fonts and such and i always had fun discussing those variations with other book lovers!

I think that edition of 'Heretics Of Dune' is the first edition, so you may find it's worth a bit.

Cool collection. I just picked up all 6 soft cover ace books with the black starry backgrounds with neon like lettering. Jumped into book 1 last night and loving it so much i had to pre order the oct 1st deluxe edition lol. Do you know if they will release deluxe editions for the other 5 books? That would be amazing.

There was a complete hardcover set by Ace that matched your new copy of the first book, but they are pretty hard to find.

I like the cover of the first edition you showed. I saw it on eBay recently but was too slow to buy it. It was going for more than I payed for the deluxe edition.

Yeah, I bought that one over 20 years ago now. It's the copy I'm most sentimental about.

What is your opinion on dune SF masterwork? is it abridged because the page count seems smaller than tpb

I'm not sure, I've never gotten a chance to look at that copy of Dune before. As far as I know their is no abridged copy of Dune. Ace has a version of Dune that is 800 pages. However it seems the same as any other version. It could be some how smaller font size making the difference in page count.

@@filmandpage1138 Without Paul and the Baron i sort of started losing interest in the later novels. Also the philosophical elements of the book became to dominant for my tastes, to many dream sequences etc. I honestly cannot see them making movies based on Dune past Messiah. I am curious if they will subtitle the two movies based on the first book. Not sure what those subtitles should be. I really want Dune Encyclopedia but prices are a little steep.

God Emperor of Dune is my least favorite novel of the original six for that reason. However if you can plow through that one Heretics Of Dune isn't bad, and Chapter House Dune is really good. Of the Last 3 novels Frank Herbert wrote Chapter House is the best one.
