This story is so comforting. I'm going through a really similar situation, I'm a freshman in college, and I ended up in a triple. One of my roommates moved out after a month, and she stole a bunch of stuff. The other one always brags about getting in physical fights and having all of these mental disorders. She yells at me a lot for things that other people have told me aren't a big deal. She doesn't clean. She has this guy over all the time, even though I've said I'm uncomfortable having him in my space. She talks badly about people all the time and complains to me for hours. She expects me to take care of her even though she makes me very scared. I've developed severe anxiety, but I am trying to get a new rooming situation.

Advice to all college students…..do your research and make sure that your roommates are going to be others that you can live harmoniously with for the year…..ive had my own personal experiences when it comes to roommates and all i can say is that if you are going to live with other people, make sure that they are people that you can live with…..with respect and considerstion for your other roommates!!! I'm the other roommate, I'm the Caroline here (not as worse but I've been that problematic roommate) . I have bipolar disorder and unfortunately I was having a manic episode. I was very close to the roommates, it was a guy and a girl. I wasn't gross but the opposite, I was over cleaning everything, basically doing laundry at 3 am or something. I was extremely clean but in an unhealthy way, even a little dirt was setting me off. However, the manic behaviour soon led to psychosis and I ran away from the house, without shoes and was running around the park nearby. I can't even imagine how scared they must've been. We were really good friends but that night was the end of it all. We were old tho, in our 20's, so they were mature enough to be a little calm about it and they called a cab and took me to the hospital. I was soon in a psych ward and was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder. You need to understand though, I had no idea what was wrong with me and the way I was acting was not to harm someone but I was doing what I thought was natural at that time. If I had known I'm ill I surely wouldn't act like that. That being said, I think the girl clearly had mental issues but she wasn't aware that she was mentally ill and that she needed help. Anyway, a year later I met up with one of the roommates and apologised to her in person, the guy and I talk on and off sometimes but surely our friendship was ruined. I must say though, I'm sorry this was too much for you, you were just 17. My roommates were 24-25 and were still terrified and I would've been too if I was in their position. That was brave of you to handle. All I have to say is, I know you're not the girl's friend and are not obliged to forgive her but please bear in mind, if she was mentally stable I'm sure she wouldn't act like that. Some people are just mean, some are just ill. The other roommate who didn't clean seemed much stranger to me as she seemed mentally normal and yet refused to help you out in any way, that's worse. Hope you're alright now. It's chilling for me to hear this as this happened to me in 2018 too! Hope the girl got help as well but if it makes you feel any better, trust me it wasn't about you. She may have directly abused you but since she is sick it could've been anyone, like how a wild animal would not choose the victim, anyone who comes in the way is doomed. So don't take it personally, only then you won't ever be scared of that incident or that girl ever again :)
@Niki-jh3ld2 жыл бұрын
Hello Nidhi, I know you posted this comment a year ago, but if you’re reading this I hope you’re feeling better now. It's really nice for you to share from another perspective. It is really easy to automatically think of people as either “good” or “bad” but sometimes there's an in-between where people do bad things because the world was bad to them. This is no excuse for caroline’s horrible actions, but it shows the root issue of the problem, which is the lack of resources for mental health across the globe. I hope you are continuing to heal from your traumatic experiences and I wish you the best.
@Pumpkiwi472 жыл бұрын
@@Niki-jh3ld hey! Yup, still on KZbin, so got your notification haha. Thank you so much for checking in! Yes yes I have healed from it all, I am on medication since then and for life but even with the meds there are ups and downs. I won't lie, it is not easy to deal with this but despite all of that I managed to finish my masters (I was living with those roommates during our masters, I got kicked out of the program after my episode but they called me back a year later when I was better), I managed to find a job and have kept it since a year and a half now and I got engaged and am getting married this year! So yes, there is definitely hope, we can lead normal lives for sure but it's just tougher. I am still figuring out how the disease precisely affects me, I figured over 4 years now that apparently a change of season triggers an episode (a much controlled episode since I am on meds) and I am trying to figure out other triggers etc so yeah it's like studying myself to manage it better. It is always better to educate oneself. Thank you again for checking in, makes me happy when people care :) Hope you have a good life too!

Wow sorry you had to go thru that, I really think the whole college roommate thing is terrible, extremely dangerous and a cultural shock for us who grew up in different countries , I personally cannot sleep with a stranger near me and will never understand why do this to young people who are trying to discover who they are without there parents and get some space of their own also not a great environment to study for such expensive universities. You really did great with the terrible hand you were dealt

7:00 a neighbor where I'm living does the exact same thing. constantly slamming things down or opening/shutting drawers, random squeals and screams and yelled phrases (never the same thing), if I make a noise, she makes a noise, never stops talking, never seems to leave her unit for food or work/class (because I can hear her talking at all hours of the day/night)...

That reminds me of my grandpa. The family issue comment. My mom walked in after our older friend died and we had been with her. He asked how her day was and she said “been a little rough.” And he replied with “well, I’m sure someone else is having a much worse day than you.” 😐

So sorry this happened to you. you were doing the best you could even at 17 years old and no one deserves to deal with what you dealt with and went through. Hope you're doing well now

I am surprised they did not call her parents and say something and file a complaint with the school and the apartment complex over the situation. I almost been tempted to get called to a psych ward or tell the school nurse of what was happening.

I am so sorry you had to deal with that. I unfortunately also dealt with roommates that did what you described in your video. I had to skip through some parts because it was all so reminding. We will always be traumatized but we are strong.

Girl, after the dirty dishes situation I would of threatened her to kick her out if she continued. I would of been like “if you wanna stay here you have to do your part, you can’t smoke or vape here. Or you can pack up your stuff and leave” and if she still didn’t listen I would of taken her stuff out myself while she was out of the house and kicked her out. I’m sorry you had to go through all that. I hope you had better experiences after that 😊

Mental health worker here. I know this is an old video, but I feel the need to say this. I have a special interest in suicide prevention, and the things you've said about your roommates behaviour makes me believe that she was mentally unstable. When you thought about calling the police, you 1000% should've listened to your gut there. Once somebody says they want to harm themselves, there's not if ands or buts.... you call the police. She would not harm herself further by the police coming. They are trained to handle people like her in these situations, and would've brought her to a place where she would be safe. There's a reason police are called for these situations. If she was violent, the police are able to handle that. When your dad said to hide in your room, it made me cringe. People are not aware of suicide, and feel uncomfortable talking about it. But that's what makes it such a stigma. It's important to learn and educate yourself on it. It's a growing epidemic that get worse every year. So, I hope you can take what I told you and learn from it for the next time you may encounter something like this. I'm glad you're in a better place now.

As someone whose had roommates similar to this, if you can’t use the kitchen please invest in your own mini fridge for your room and a hot plate so you can still cook meals without having to use a dirty kitchen!

Idk how college students like being in a dorm. I hate sharing rooms with my sisters. I can't imagine sharing rooms with a stranger. I'm a junior in college and I love being home after school.

Ok so I have been into bad roommates storys, but this is the worst. The fact that she left BLOOD on the walls and was armed says a lot about her and this story. I am so sorry you were out through that, and that should have never been put on a 17 year old.

sounds like my roommate dina lmaoo and my old bestfriend.. i moved in and didn’t expect to live with a narcissist but ☹️ dishes and trash issues and not cleaning was the biggest issue and then living with cat piss and poop everywhere and kittens being farmed.. worst and most traumatized moment of my life and i’ve been abused
