Hi Rebecca,Oh I enjoyed that video,you're colouring I think is pretty amazing,there's quite a few videos I've missed so I will have to search them out.You got a lovely selection of books,I may beat you on numbers,but not on what I call really good books ,think I've got about ten really nice ones ,Bloomstermandala, and Joanna Basfords the favourites.I was taken by Jasmine Becket Griffen books,I normally stay clear of Halloweeny type books ,but really liked the look of them humm!!! Got My Beasties Blooming Beasties book ,although a lover of the stamps ,found the images a bit large,some cute some not so! I love the way you speak Rebecca ,you're so down to earth and say things how they are,especially when books are full of crap,just love it lol! Good point about Secret Garden turning yellowy,I know they were printed on a creamier paper unlike Magical Jungle,but I'm sure they've turned more yellowy since I bought them ,only 3 months ago,bit off putting,looking forwards to her xmas book though,ar should be arriving this week sometime.Well keep the tutorials coming as I've already learnt alot,ahh how to sharpen a pencil for one ,alternating between the large hole then the small hole on the pencil sharpener,what a difference.
@TheArtSpirits8 жыл бұрын
Oh thanks Barbara you always fill me full of confidence :-) Yes I forgot to say in the video that the Secret Garden and Enchanted Forest were already printed on cream paper but they have definitely yellowed even more. Have you seen a flick through video of her Christmas Book? Chris Cheng (I love chris cheng's colourings) has just put a full flick through video of it, showing every page. I was a bit shocked to see that a lot of the pages are repeated over and over but I'm sure I'll still be getting it lol.

Hi. I have just found your channel and I am in love!!! Your accent is so pleasant to listen to. Then as you are going thru your coloring books, one of the last... where the girl is next to a pond I totally love that you made the frog or toad in pinks!!! Your talent is stunning. As you say at the start that you were so embarrassed your 1st couple videos. I need to find your name so we can chat. I am Bobbi in Texas USA. I am thinking you are in the UK? These colorings have shown how much you have learned because the one with the pink toad is sooo beautiful... Yay You!!! Thanx for showing such lovely books as well. I had no idea these were out. So I am off to Barnes & Noble book store tomorrow. Again thanx and I am going to watch your videos from start to present so I can learn some of your techniques. Bye for now!!!

You color very nicely and your color choices are also very good in my opinion. I think you get bored easily, I say that because you haven't finished most of the pictures you showed. I have the same problem so I recognize it. . I have to make myself finish pictures so I do my books in order and never stray. It works for me. I hadn't thought much about shading so you can see I am not experienced at coloring. All the best, Sean
@TheArtSpirits8 жыл бұрын
Haha yes I do have a few unfinished picture's Sean. I'm nowhere near as disciplined as you unfortunately but I am getting better with that since I started recording my progress on video. This kind of makes me finish the pictures so that I can upload it to my KZbin channel :-) Thank you very much for your comment :-)

That's a lovely collection you've got there. I watched this smiling because I have quite a few of them myself. And while watching, I was coloring a page from Jasmine Becket-Griffith's Halloween one. :) And I love how you work with watercolors. I can't quite figure out how to make them look so nice. Or it's just not my medium...
@TheArtSpirits8 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much. The thing with watercolour is that it's difficult to use 'but only at first'. After a few attempts it gets easier and once you get used to it, it's a lot of fun.

Yeah I've seen a couple of flick through of Joannas xmas book ,but not Chris Chengs, so will look out for that, she is an amazing colourist.I didn't notice some of the pages repeated,hum a bit naughty,but I ordered mine August,so expecting it this week!Just been doing a bit of colouring in one of Creative Havens Winter scenes, quite pretty,but you don't feel intimated by them ,just have fun colouring.Sadly got to go as there's a dog wanting to go for walkabout!!You're more than welcome for good comments ,they're well deserved. Take care look forwards to more tutorials!

Did the fine liners bleed through when you coloured the seahorse. I was just wondering as I was thinking about buying some. Thanks so much.
@TheArtSpirits8 жыл бұрын
Hi Fiona, no they don't bleed through so long as you don't saturate the paper with lots of ink. If you keep going over the same bit while still wet, it would eventually seep through.

You are correct on the serious of some artist that takes the finished coloring to a higher level with ceramic and raw materials. I just use art markers and gel pens. My acb collection; Doll House, Paris City Streets, Zen Doodle, Wonderful Fable Tales, 3&1 scenery book, Island Escapes, Mysterious Library, World Travel. I try to choose acb that will work with art markers which the paper is medium weight but I do place a piece of paper behind it to make sure there is no bleed thru. Also, I select certain acb from Japan and Korea up coming artist, small to large lines and certain themes. great video

you have done some lovely pictures. I have just stated and am just using gel and felt pens at the moment and doing solid colours. I havent learned any shading techniques or how to do skin tones. did you just learn from tutorials? Have you got any advise what i can watch to get started?
@TheArtSpirits7 жыл бұрын
Hi Gill, I didn't learn how to shade from video tutorials. I do learn from video tutorials all the time but for the light and shade principle, I used books. I think the best book, that I absolutely love and would highly recommend is 'Color and Light' by James Gurney I'm still pretty new to skin tones. Still learning myself but most of what I know about shading on the face is from a KZbinr called Istebrak. Her videos are very technical but amazing for anybody who wants to get really technical with shading correctly. Hope this helps😃

You are dead on about that Alderney Coloring Book.I have never and would never criticize a persons art but that is not what that coloring book contains and the person who put that on the market should be ashamed of themselves. Unless it is an art form that deals with some sort of PSYCHOLOGICAL experiment!.😂 I agree with your assessment. But don't feel bad, I have bought coloring books a few times based on the merit of what is drawn on the cover. I receive it in the mail, open it up and go WHAT THE HECK IS THIS!!!😂 So funny , and what is even more funny is I will probably do it many more times!! We get so many really beautiful coloring books in between those duds so it makes up for it right? Thanks again for all the joy and fun your channel brings..........so appreciated. And most of all , thanks for taking us on your journey of discovery in art. There are so many times I think I am going to reach out and try some technique or something because I watched you attempt it (and succeed) on your channel. Your channel is a shot of courage for me and for many more I suspect! Lots of Love from Texas!!❤️

You go through a book called "What's in the Garden". Who is that by please? And where did you get it? I think that might be a good one for Mum for Christmas but I can't seem to find it on Amazon.
@TheArtSpirits8 жыл бұрын
Hi Sue, I got mine at a Dobbies garden center in Carlisle. If you are in the UK, I this is the only place that I can find that sells them. There are lots of Dobbies dotted around the country though, so maybe there's one near you. If you live in the USA, then they are available on eBay US and Amazon US.
@suewilkinson9108 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks. Yes, I'm UK and there is a Dobbies near me so I can have a look there. Although I'm no longer so sure. I sacrificed my Johanna's Christmas which I'd had on pre-order from Amazon. I wrapped it for Mum's birthday thinking she would like it because she loves Christmas and is laid up at the moment. But she didn't seem that impressed. Seems to prefer the cheap and nasty free pull-out from some magazine or other that she's got.
@TheArtSpirits8 жыл бұрын
Haha, that's so funny. I'd take it back if I were you lol. I bought my neice and my sister a colouring book each last Christmas and neither of them were interested. My neice (she's 14) actually gave me it back a couple of months ago coz she's says she's never gonna use it.

P.S. What started your art journey? I mean have you always been interested in it or did you come upon it after childhood? Just curious. For me, Loved it as a child, got away from it for too many years to count, and decided to dive into it and give it the attention and place that it deserved in my life. When I stop to think about it, I wonder why I wasted soooo much time........
@TheArtSpirits6 жыл бұрын
I'm same as you Debbie. Had a small interest as a child, drew a couple of pictures that my dad was super proud of, told me I was good at it (like him, lol) and he actually framed one of my pictures. Then I just never really thought about art after that and I never took art in high school as it was really boring. They had potters wheels that nobody was allowed to touch. I don't ever remember ever painting in an art class. So when it came to picking subjects for our final years, there was no chance I would have picked art. It really bothers me when I think about it. I don't understand why they didn't let us do some fun art stuff to get us interested. So I literally only got into art around 5 years ago and now I too really wish I had started long ago, what a waste of time 🙄🙄🎨🙄
