My Competitive Pac-Man Matchup Chart ~ Smash 4

As an Olimar main, and PAC/Dedede secondary, I have a few tips concerning the Olimar/Pac MU: Trampoline is a Good option when Olimar keep zoning you out. Olimar is bad in the air, and lack priority. It give you a free bonus fruit charge as well, and you can "Trap" pikmins coming back to Olimar, if the Hydrant is in the way back to him. Don't directly kill the pikmins if they aren't dangerous. Like, a Yellow Pikmin at high % won't do much, except some easier follow up. Kill purples when you Can, they are what make this MU better for Olimar: They hit like a truck. Back air is a Good spacing tool if used correctly, since you can auto-cancel it, and Olimar can't do much except a F-tilt or perfect Shield then punish. Also, pressure him at the edge, but don't lose time with too much set-up, if he regain stage control... He can basically corner you at the edge. Trampoline is very good. Also,if you Can... Just ledgetrump him into back-air. He's one of the few characters who aren't dangerous when using their recovery. I Hope I helped.

N-Air and Z-Drops are also really good at killing Pikmin that are attached to you, and Hydrant can be really annoying for Olimar to deal with since it blocks a lot of his Pikmin attacks.

I have a harder time against Cloud than Bayonetta. If you're quick, Cloud can be a bit predictable. You can punish his dash attack and possibly his smash attacks, especially his side-smash. Obviously, if he has limit, try to force him to use it on recovering; but if not, try not to be predictable and stay out of range of his side-b. Stay from under him or above him (when he's in the air), because his down-air and up-air is irritating; but if you're quick you can possibly punish his up-air. Beefy Smash Doods went over Cloud's up-b, and at a certain period of time, he can't tech off of walls if attacked. So if you're on a stage with an angled ledge try to use Pac-Man's hydrant and hit him from behind as he tries to recover, it's usually a free stock if it doesn't clank with his up-b hitbox. Otherwise, try to back-air him against the stage. It's risky, but if he has enough damage he can't recover after getting bounced off the wall. For me, it's usually pretty easy to beat Bayonetta if you stay sharp. All of her special moves are beat out by Pac's hydrant and most of his bonus fruit, so she's not too difficult to zone out. While she can get past the trampoline with a grounded side-b, it can still slow her down and limit her options to attack. Make sure you don't use too many close-range attacks on her unless your punishing or you can easily read her next move, to avoid getting witch timed. Also, be sure not to use bonus fruit at point-blank range unless you can read her or you're punishing her, since she has witch time. Most of bonus fruit and hydrant is also good for punishing her recovery, since they beat her specials which is her main source of recovery. Better yet, if Bayonetta is counter-happy and you're decent at mind games (which you'd better be if playing as Pac-Man), you can bait her into wasting all of her witch time. Then you'll have a better opportunity to use more close-range attacks for at least fifteen seconds. And whatever you do... do NOT get caught by her grounded side-b! If she does, quickly try to put down a hydrant (if possible )to counter her likely following up-b. ...Yeah, I think that's about all I can think of.

Hey Amalga, I was wondering what you think of this as an idea for a hypothetical bonus fruit for pac man to have. So pac man could have a pretzel (from the game Ms. Pac Man). the fruit wouldn't do a lot of damage or knockback, but it would halfway break a shield, but if it hits a shield, it would dissapear and not be recatchable to make it more balanced. PS you are quite an underrated KZbinr.

This may sound weird, but I think hydrant and banana are kinda similar. Hydrant is more defensive than banana, and banana is more offensive than hydrant.

I'm surprised you skipped over talking about Villager, as that was the one I was most surprised by your placement. Pocket is just extremely difficult to deal with, and he had enough projectile spam that you can't camp him or play a ranged game. You have to beat him up close, which is still very difficult. I would see him at at least -1

Pocket actually isn't that big of an issue considering that when Villager pockets a Fruit or Hydrant, he can't stop any more, and Pac-Man can still generate his own, so it really doesn't affect him that much.

I somewhat disagree with Bowser's placing. I can see why Bowser isn't Pac's best matchup, but Bowser can struggle with dealing with the Cherry and Orange.

I have heard wario often called pacs worst matchup due to the eating fruit. Similar to rosa in a way. Thoughts?

Henri Bergeron Definitely not. Wario can eat the Fruits but he has to react pretty quickly to them with Chomp, which is slower, and he gets put into a bit of lag after which can be punished. It’s a lot better just to shield them, although Hydrant can sometimes be better to eat since it’s a bit slower. Even with that mechanic though, Wario still doesn’t have a very strong kit until he gets Waft, a lot of his moves aren’t really threatening at all, and he can struggle quite a bit at getting in.

If you can keep a fresh and unpredictable playstyle, it won't be so easy. Also try to use more galaxians, bells, and keys since they don't disappear on impact. You can throw them a hydrant to launch it, so then Wario will be less likely to eat the fruit. If he tries anyway, he'll get punished by the hydrant. If he dodges, he may get by one or the other depending on which fruit you use.

I mentioned him a tiny bit but essentially disjointed moves like N-Air and B-Air can be hard for Pac to approach against, and up-air can be difficult to land against since it's a multi-hit disjoint that beats out Hydrant. His neutral special also doesn't stop when it comes into contact with Hydrant or Pellet which makes it good at stopping Pac's setup. However, he's big and struggles at landing, so once Pac does get in it can be a bit difficult for ROB to escape disadvantage. However, ROB in general gives Pac a rough time in neutral.
